"worst practice in my 30 years of coaching"

We better kill the lammies, if not I will be pissed.

“Nobody deserved to win today,” Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild said.
“This was the absolute worst practice in my 30 years of coaching that I’ve seen at quarterback,”
“They had no idea what they were doing, and on the rare occasion when they did do the right thing, they couldn’t hit what they were throwing at. We’ve got a tremendous problem at quarterback.”

sounds like motivation-speak, to me.

not all coaches are of the "this is the best week of practice we've had since we've been here" and play egg-toss ilk. there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Smells to me like he is blowing smoke and trying to light a competitive fire under their butts; I wouldn't make too much of it. On the other hand, I don't like coaches calling out players in the media.

QB stats from the worst practice in Fairchild's 30 years of coaching: 17/24, 269 yards, 4 tds, 1 int. Dude's a sandbagger.

My guess is that some of what he said is to spark the competition, but that still doesnt make me feel very good about our situation at QB.

This reminds me of the Montana State coach who said that if they ever got a first down during the game with CU, he was likely to call time out and have a ceremony to mark the accomplishment. We all know how that ended up. Fairchild is downplaying his team in the media, but I guarantee you that he's not talking them down in the locker room. We need to be ready for a war!

I kind of figured he was playign more of a mind game as well, however, I still think their qb situation is crap. We beat a rams team with a veteran QB and a NFl RB last year by 21 points, I am on Sacky's side, if we don't win by at least, at least 3 td's again, it will be another long season.

That line of logic confuses me. We absolutely have to win by 3 TDs or this season is going to be bad? What if we win by 20? 17? That will not good enough?

Whether Buffs fans want to hear it or not, we will struggle a bit in that first game. We're young on both lines and we have the issues at WR. Our DL is really going to be tested by CSU's OL. I still think we'll win pretty easily (i.e, game will not be in doubt in the 4th quarter) with a score of something like 31-14.

Personally, I would prefer a team that gets better as the season goes along rather than a team that blows through a pretty soft non-conference schedule only to hit a wall in Big 12 play.

Correct me if I am wrong but he was saying this stuff last year at this same time. Some sort of cheap motivational ploy.

They are returning 4 OL starters. I hope you guys are right considering our WR situation.

Heck I will just take a win but if there is some garbage time I won't be complaining.

we saw that last year. in 01 we lost the opener to Fresno and win the Big XII. take your pick?

we've struggled with CSU and had good seasons. we blew them out last year, and nearly lose the next week to EWU.

Amen. Every week is a new week. Winning or losing week 1 doesn't determine the fate of the year (despite my mood after that game!).

He's sandbagging and also still whining about the game being in boulder and not invesco.

CU will win but it won't be by 3td's imho. This game used to be fun, now it's just win and get it over with so we can move on ....

I agree, and the reason I will be pissed if we don't win by at leats 3 TD's is because usually any less and you still hear **** from lamb fans. I'm tired of their bull**** and it's time to show them who is boss in the state. That is why I will be pissed. Call it greed, but I just wont settle for anything less than 3 td's.

I do take back my comment about a loss for the season though.

I agree with this. I don't expect a complete blowout, but I do expect us to wear them down in the second half and pull away. There should not be any doubt which is the better team.

I'm looking for 3-1 in non-conference play (4-0 would be great) and the team going into Big 12 play healthy. Also, those first four games should help the OL gel as a unit and also help get a decent rotation going on the DL. Hopefully the WR situation should be settled some as well with Simas having playing a couple games by then and other guys getting their first college game action.

Not buying it either. Too much experience and talent on the OL and WR and I think their RB's will be pretty good, not as deep or talented as ours, but good enough to move the ball. I suspect he'll run the ball and then play action the heck out of us. I think this was his MO when he was the offensive coordinater before he left for the NFL. You don't need a real flashy QB if the running game is working.
