Re: '11 WI SF Elgin Cook

6'5" G/F Elgin Cook of Milwaukee Hamilton in Wisconsin continues to impress and develop. The young Cook exploded two years ago during the NY2LA Sports Generation Next All-Star Camp and has turned in a number of strong performances on both the high school side and the Grassroots side over the past couple of years including a monster showing at last fall's Breakfast of Champions League that saw him grab First Team All-BOC honor. The young versatile swing is an explosive athlete with nice size and excellent length. He is a lethal talent in transition and his skills continue to develop across the board. When it's all said and done Cook will become an elite prospect nationally and could become a huge story this spring/summer. He's gotten interest from a host of schools including, but not limited to, the likes of Florida State, USC, Kentucky, Purdue, DePaul, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette, and Wisconsin amongst others. Cook can really go and he is part of a loaded 2011 class in the state of Wisconsin right now. First things first though as he and his Hamilton teammates are set for a huge showdown on Friday against undefeated Milwaukee Washington at Milwaukee Washington. He'll compete this summer for the DTA Rebels Grassroots program based out of Wisconsin.

Commitment 360: Elgin Cook to ISU
Paul Clark
CycloneReport.com

Milwaukee (Wisc.) Hamilton small forward Elgin Cook has committed to Iowa State. CycloneReport.com spoke directly with Cook on Saturday evening to get the scoop as he traveled home following a two-day unofficial visit to ISU.

"I decided to be a commitment to Iowa State," the 6-foot-5, 180-pound Cook said. "I like the team, I like the facilities, the coaches are good. There is great fan support there. I visited yesterday and today (Friday and Saturday) and made my commitment while I was there."

Iowa State was Cook's first offer and it came in early July following his appearance at an ISU camp in June. Cook was back on campus this weekend and got to see more of the future of the Cyclones hoops program before deciding to become a part of it.

"The new practice facility is almost done and I got to see that," said Cook. "And I got to hang with the players a lot more. Getting to know them more helped me make my decision. And that facility is great."

Also recruiting Cook with serious interest this summer have been Oregon, Purdue, Providence, Wisconsin, Colorado and Marquette.

Re: '11 WI SF Elgin Cook (Committed to Iowa St)

Who would want to spend four years in Ames?

Although I agree that Ames would suck, ISU has a decent program with a decent history. The support for their basketball team is pretty good too.

ISU - MAY pull in the best prospect in this class, Harrison Barnes. Barnes goes to Ames High, and the closeness to home definitely helps the Cyclones. If ISU pulls the upset, ISU will be a threat to play against - Barnes is supposedly that good. Don't worry though - I think the kid is going to Duke, but I'm biased.

I think Bz needs help recruiting. I like Bz MUCH MORE than RP, but I will point that within his first two seasons - RP pulled in Mosley, almost got Q Richardson, and I think Pelle was in his first two classes. All were highly recruited, and all did well in college. Bz just needs that first recruiting class to help him out - if we get Mayes...

Would love to have a guy like Pelle on the team right about now. I agree with you on recruiting too, Bz needs to step it up.

Agree, but before a good recruiting class will come he has to get this team to make some noise this season. An upset in Maui, and 6 or 7 wins in conference play would bring some momentum. Another season similar to the last two and..... I don't even wanna think about that.

Bz needs to win.

Bohn needs to get us the practice facility.

As it stands, we're not even a top 150 program and we don't have the facilities, fan base, tradition, or proximity to recruits to make up for it. We're going out there with "member of the Big 12", "coach with NBA ties", and "program is on the rise". The third one goes away after this year unless we win, and even with it we haven't had enough bullets in the gun to snare Top 100 prospects, so we need to add bullets like "new facilities" and "played in NIT (or NCAAs)".

Still only showing the Iowa State offer. Seems solid in his commitment.
