Hopefully, some of you remember John, who stepped up big for the Buffs, back in the neuheisel days. He replaced Koy Detmer and helped the Buffs to a 10-2 record in 1995.

John was a hit and run victim and very seriously injured, but is fighting back. here is a link to a fund-raiser site. I posted it opn netbuffs, with 'zero' reposnses.

If you can send $5 - 10 or more, great. if not, drop him line and say hello. he was a great Buff who thousands of us cheered. A guy in his position, loves to know people remember.

Welcome, Andre Simmons and Go Buffs!

Thank you for this reminder.

The thing about John's accident is that it's not old news. It impacts his well being with each and every new day.

Keep hanging tough!

John has come a long, long way from that hit & run accident that would have been completly overwhelming for most us. The man has to be bulletproof to have gone through that ordeal . Way to go John!!!

It was enough of a challenge for an in-state kid to follow in the footsteps of Hagan, Stewart and Detmer. John stepped in and became as tough and classy a competitor as they came. I remember years back when I heard the news of the hit and run and didn't know Hessler's history at the time. Looked up his accomplishments and couldn't believe John didn't get nearly the credit he deserved for what he did for the program. Still that was nowhere near the credit he should get for what he's overcome in this decade. Amazing story, and I always look forward to hearing updates on him whenever possible.

John is the man. I doubt many people are man enough to endure what this young man has had to go through. He's an inspiration to us all.

The fans expected too much from John in 97 and in hindsight I think we all overrated that team's talent.. Its tough to get credit when you make a big splash on the scene and end it with a sour/disappointing note.. He didn't have a great year that everyone was expecting, but neither did anyone else on that team.. Usually as time passes by, the better parts of John's career will be celebrated and appreciated much more..

The disappointing season of 97 doesn't make me forget John's great performances against A&M off the bench in 95 or his big game vs OU.. John will always be a great Buff.

Props to John on his fight.. We are all rooting for you buddy..
