BuffZone/Ringo predicts Hanson to be starting QB

I'm starting to wonder if there's not some logic there. It seems to me that if the starter is Cody then all of the secrecy is just silly. Name him the starter, show some confidence and move forward.

Of course, I'm probably wrong. I also don't really care who starts or plays as long as they efficiently move the offense and don't screw up.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the qb that starts the season doesn't finish it. Maybe they use Hansen for CSU to mess with Toledo or they use him for both games and bring Cody in for WVU. Get tyler some experience behind our line with a smaller offensive package and bring Cody in to run the whole bag of tricks in week 3 (or vice versa). Is that what's gonna happen? I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised...

Unless his shoulder injury is a lot worse then they are leading on, Cody Hawkins will be the starting QB on Sunday and for the rest of the season.

PissBomber's recap of the scrimmage he went to mentioned this nugget:

QB position has been decided...so has P, K and kickoff guy. Looked very familiar to me

That tells me it's Cody. Hoping for TH, though.

I wonder if Ringo was at the scrimmage too. Maybe the reason Hansen didn't play much of the scrimmage was because of his illness. But I'll never try to understand this coaching staff.

Ringo is just trying to start trouble, as usual. Since Ringo has stated that Hansen is the choice, he is implying that Hansen SHOULD BE the choice, and If Hawkins is named the starter, now Ringo can write a "Controversial Choice for QB" story.

This is why Hawk is getting testy with the press.

It's probably the best move to start Hansen, not saying it will happen. Since the O line and Wide receivers are unknowns at this point you go with the guy who can get you out of trouble when things break down. That would be the more mobile Hansen. Now if the oline is effective and Hansen is effective, you obviously keep him in the game. If the Oline's ineffective and Hansen is doing his best Jake Locker impersonation, you keep him in the game. However, if the oline is effective and Hansen is not, you can move Cody in and you avoid any negative flack from players, fans, or the media. It would be a seamless transition and can be labeled that Hansen just needs more maturing......

Good lord I hope that does not happen. Pick a QB and stick with him!!!

If we are flipflopping qb's during the games or from game to game then I'll be really disappointed.

No flip flopping......If Hansen's effective regardless of the circumstances you keep him the starter. But if he's messing up from snap 1 vs. CSU and the O line and co are doing their jobs then you pass it on to Cody and keep the bus moving. I didn't mean they do this every game. My bad.

You mean to tell me it is hard to establish an offensive identity by alternating QBs?????

Agree 100%.

I have a hard time believing that Cody doesn't have a better grasp of the offense, he has the better arm, the receiving corp is obviously going to be an issue, if the go with TH we are basically giving up any chance of a passing attack. All that being said, TH has the bigger upside.

I'm on the fence, hansen has the wheels but for the safe pick it's got to be cody vs csu. He's started and beat csu twice and he has experience dealing with the hype and first game jitters of this game.

If hansen starts and things don't go well it could be trouble.

I know it's wishy-washy but I'd rather see cody start and get us going . Heck, hansen can start the other 11 games, we MUST win this game at home.

I've found myself wondering lately, if the backup isn't locked up in a room somewhere studying film on Toledo. And come Thursday BAM...the switcheroo.

EDIT: Of course Toledo has a new coach, so really there's not a lot of film, but you know what I mean.

They have a couple good rb's, one is morgan williams, know a bit from family back in ohio. I've heard they were going to the spread so who knows.

I used to get into the defensive side of things and hope CU would hold teams to under 100 yds rushing and 200 passing but today with these spread offenses, the only thing to concern myself with is how many points we give up. Teams get theie yds in these spread offenses.

Anyway, back to your point, I wouldn't put it past this staff. I would like cody to start the csu game.

This is my philosophy with the spread, hit the qb. I think sitting back and covering with 7 or 8 guys is exactly what they want. We seem to do well with T Tech with pressure, why cant we do it with all spread teams? U bust their qb in the mouth, I guarantee u it will get his attention. Spread qb's are used to being back there all day picking their target and not worried about getting hit. If u wanna see a recipe of how to beat the spread, go back to our last game in Lubbock or the 2005 game in Boulder or the Ole Miss game in the Cotton Bowl.

In the past I had questioned whether Hansen should be bypassed for younger qb's if Cody was to start.
After reading and thinking has occured to me that the best choice may be to start Hansen. It is a win win for the coaching staff.

If he plays well, all are happy and the "nepotistas" dissapear. If he falters, Cody is available and he is solid.

I am OK with Hansen if he has closed the gap.

he came in to do one thing and everybody knew what he was going to do...just like the wildcat at arkansas a few years ago. No true 2 quarterback system wil be successful.

I'm betting that Hawkins & Hanson have been told by now which one will lead the team this sunday.

My co-worker just came in and said Cody was on the sideline during yesterday's scrimmage. Any truth to that?
