We're not firing Bohn. No way, no how.

Do you guys remember what it was like around here with Tharp? It was a disaster. No concept of how to run an athletic department. No thought given to fundraising. Mike Bohn is the first "real" athletic director this school has ever had. I don't agree with all of his moves, but there's no denying the man knows how to run an efficient and profitable athletic department. The AD is in one HELLUVA lot better shape today than it was when he showed up, and that's in spite of the lack of on field/court success. God only knows what kind of magic he could produce if the football & basketball teams actually won a few games.

The idea of firing Bohn is ludicrous. He hired Hawk based on a recommendation from Chuck Neinas. Neinas is the guy we all said we would trust his judgement. Had Bohn not taken that advice, we would have been all over him like a cheap suit.

Bohn's job is to run a profitable athletic department that reflects well on the university and is a strong member of the community. He's done all that and more. Let's not get carried away with the axe, lest we cut off some parts we'd just assume keep.

Just because Bohn is more competent than Tharp it doesn't mean he's any good.

Its fairly obvious Bohn liked Hawk from the beginning and while they used Neinas to gather info and candidates, Bohn made the final call..

Big time ADs are more hard to come by than big time coaches. He's good. Better than good, actually. While it's fair to pin some of the on-field/court failures on him, you need to remember that's just a very small part of his job. His job is to run the department efficiently. There's no denying he's done a masterful job there.

bohn has strengths and weaknesses, like everyone.

he's a great front man. he cares. he is the anti-tharp.

he was anxious to leave his mark on the CUAD and i think he made some hires that were ill-advised.

that doesn't mean fire him, necessarily. it means get him some help on the stuff he may not be as good at. i believe the hiring process will not be driven by him the next time around.

I suppose you are right. If Hawk fails its on him though.. Should he be given full reign to hire the next coach? I'd question that.

I give him a pass on B for a few more years since he inherited a disaster.

Hiring has never been his strength, no matter where he's been. He hasn't hired one coach anywhere he's been that has turned out to be a success. So I guess that's where he should be given some help. I thought his use of Chuck Neinas would have been sufficient.

And let's not forget something that's very important here, Hawk was the right guy at the time. A dude who came in here and cleaned up the mess that was left behind. At the time we hired Hawk, it was more important to have somebody who would run a clean program with good graduation rates and strong relations with the academics and law enforcement. Hawk hasn't failed at these endeavors at all. He's been a brilliant success, actually. But when it came to winning football games, he has fallen way short of expectations.

It may be a crappy process, but perhaps it's a process we have to go through to get back to where we all want to be. At first, we needed a guy who could put a nice face on the football team. Now we need a guy who will win. It's too bad that's not the same guy.

the goal wasn't good grades and no criminal stuff. that's the window dressing you need to keep the haters happy. the goal is always to win. the trick is keeping the volume of the stuff that pisses the sports-haters off down to a reasonable level.

i think there is a 50/50 chance hawk won't last the season now. bohn, i'd keep, but i'd take the hiring decision away from him. they'll do it in a way that let's him save face. but, at the end of the day, bohn wants this job, i suspect. and, he'll eat a little private poo to keep it. the next hire will be more thought out than this one.

I think bohn has ****ed up a few times but his hires at the time were as solid as they come. Hindsight is 20/20. Hell both hawk and bzzzz had impeccable resumes coming in. Hawk has won everywhere but here. Sucks for us but he made the best decisions possible AT THAT TIME. Hawk still has a chance to turn this around. However he is needing to pull one hell of a turn around. I don't fault bohns hires. **** happens even with the best possible decision.
