If you were to learn that:

1- Dan Hawkins is over-ruling the entire coaching staff to play Cody
2- Hansen is the choice of every other staff member
3- Hansen graded out higher in the QB competition this fall
4- Hansen is the overwhelming choice of the players
5- The staff is so low on Cody they even think the 2nd stringer should be Evans
6- Hansen did not ask to be redshirted
7- Hansen learned about the redshirt idea from a newspaper
8- Hansen was asked to lie about the QB competition and redshirt situation
9- Cody's friends get preferential treatment at other positions

Would you still support Dan Hawkins as our head coach?

Is this all speculation? If so, label it as such.

Much of it was posted here by a friend of the Hansen family. His brother confirmed it on Rivals tonight. Other things were said by someone with a source on the staff. Nothing is official or confirmed and some is piecing things from other places. Treat it as a hypothetical, but: Link.

If any one of those were true, Hawk should be fired immediately. I highly doubt any of them are, though. Are you just throwing this out there... or?

Hawk shouldn't be coaching now, I don't need this.

How Ironic, the team CU was supposed to play Miami of ohio, gets beat by Hawks former team boise state 48-0.

The team CU ends up playing instead, beats cu 54-38.

Yeah.

Don't trust everything that comes out of Buffscoop, or Rivals. Hansen did not outperform little Hawk.

I know. And I don't take it as gospel. Some of the people that post "Scoop" definitely have an agenda.

Like a said, threat it like a hypothetical.

I've heard mainly two things from the locker room. First was the majority liked Hawkins as our starter, but I've also heard the same about Hansen. I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

But if what you say is true, we're screwed.

It'd be nice to locate the entire blame on one position like QB, but it just isn't true. This team has very big issues across the board. It might be time for the coaches to throw some kids in there that aren't blowing the coaches away in practice, just to see if they're gameday performers. For example, for all the hype, Burton and Sipili have been nowhere to be found at LB. May be time to let Rippy and Major get some plays. And if Wright, Simmons, Simas and Jefferson don't appear for more than 1 play a half I'm really going to be upset.

I'm at the point right now of not knowing who to believe.

Do I believe the coach that says Cody is the guy over Tyler. The same coach that has Simmons on the sidelines until the 3rd quarter. The coach that can't get B-Lock on the field for more than two plays a game. Don't know if anyone has seen this kid practice but he is full speed running back to the huddle after the play is over. The coach that has a wideout playing that is not even listed on the roster (per ESPN). The coach that sit's Scott the entire 2nd half. I can go on and on.

I can't wait to see what our gameplan is against Wyoming since our identity seems to change each week. It's like opening a x-mas gift, you just don't know what is going to be inside.

It's hard to know what to believe, for sure. There's built in reason not to trust either the people that tow the company line or the people that are disgruntled.

What worries me is that, if true, it would explain so much. Why Nelson never got an opportunity (highest spring grade ahead of Cody's RS-Freshman year). Why Ballenger left and his dad was so circumspect as to the reasons (Remember: 8-12, 118 yards, 1 td, 0 int in game action). Why Hansen hasn't played a down this year. Why Espinoza beat out J-Fly for punt returner last year and Ebner was taking reps from him at WR in the spring. Why Scotty and Espy get all the balls and majority of snaps while Simmons and Wright barely see the field.

The Hansen situation over the last month has been extremely fishy to me. I could see any number of scenarios being the truth, but what you typed out is not that far-fetched. That is a bit scary.

I can't/won't answer your final question, but I can say that I've heard five, maybe six, of your 9 points reported by someone close to the team (as opposed to someone posting on the boards.)
I also can't say that this person isn't coloring what they've heard with their own opinion, either -- because that's what people do, find information to support what they already believe -- but I will say that some of the information is troubling.

Add to this a few other contradictory bits, such as Darrell is hurt, no he's not. Makes you wonder just what the heck is going on.

My take on the talking points:

1- Dan Hawkins is over-ruling the entire coaching staff to play Cody
- This has the ring of truth to it.
2- Hansen is the choice of every other staff member
- Is this not the same thing as point 1?
3- Hansen graded out higher in the QB competition this fall
- This is convincing.
4- Hansen is the overwhelming choice of the players
- The team is phoning it in right now. Could it be because they feel
hawk isn't listening to them?
5- The staff is so low on Cody they even think the 2nd stringer should be Evans
- I doubt this. Cody is a solid backup.
6- Hansen did not ask to be redshirted
- Well obviously.
7- Hansen learned about the redshirt idea from a newspaper
- Fits hawk's hyper secretive M.O
8- Hansen was asked to lie about the QB competition and redshirt situation
- Who knows.
9- Cody's friends get preferential treatment at other positions
- How else do you explain guys like espinoza and sumler and ebner getting the lion's share of playing time when there doesn't appear to be any production justifying it.

If even a portion of these things are true, then it is much worse then I thought (and that is saying something).

This thread is troubling.

According to one source, this is Hawkins' logic:

Cody and Hansen each have strengths and weaknesses, but nothing that sets one strongly apart from the other. (In Hawkins' opinion.) Cody therefore becomes the starter based primarily on seniority and experience.

Since Dan Hawkins plans to be at CU for a few more years, he sees a big picture in which Cody starts this year, backed up only by walk-ons as needed. The scenario is entirely dependent on Cody staying healthy.

Then, Hansen/Cody compete for starter and playing time next year. Since Evans also redshirts in 2009, he is in the mix next year without a loss of a year of his eligibility. Newcomers Nick Hirshfield and Danny Spond (and any other QBs who come to CU) redshirt in fall of 2010, so they can compete in the mix in 2011.

Cody graduates after the 2010 season and Hansen is the lone (redshirt) senior in 2011, with some experience. He then competes with Clark for starting spot, along with any younger guys who have stepped up.

There's Lobato, Slota, possibly Moten and other QBs in the mix, I don't mean to leave them out. But that's the logic of reshirting Hansen, it's to give the Buffs an experienced QB after Cody graduates, and to restore Hansen's redshirt year (whether or not he wants it back) to create chronological separation between Cody and Tyler. If you don't redshirt Hansen, both Cody and Tyler graduate the same year, and CU will have little experience coming up (because the theory assumes with the two of them playing, the frosh will get little field experience.)

When Tyler graduates, Evans would have backed him up (or taken over as starter) for a year and will have the experience as a redshirt junior, along with Lobato and Slota if they stay QBs, and has Spond, Hirschfield and any other QBs we pick up behind him as backups. Evans, or whoever beats him out, then has two years as starter.

I'm not supporting or contradicting, just sharing the logic of how we got here in this crazy QB situation. Presumably, according to one theory.

Just an aside: if Ballenger was still here, the scenario is vastly different because we have a competent QB competing with Cody -- and Hansen can sit a year to gain the separation. But he's gone. If Jordan Wynn was still at CU, there'd be a different scenario as well. But you know that story already.

Does Cody play SS, FS, CB, OLB, ILB, DE, or DT? If not, then he is NOT the problem.

I don't know if I believe it.

But as someone that follows recruiting and knows the type of talent on our roster vis a vis Colorado State and Toledo, and being aware that those programs are earlier in coaching and system changes than we are, and knowing that Toledo is further downtrodden by a major scandal hanging over their athletic department... I have to ask myself why we are getting manhandled by these teams? Only something that is completely dividing and demoralizing the staff and players would seem to explain it.

Enough with this BS. We pretty much suck in most areas of the team, so yes, Cody is most definitely part of the problem. He may not be the only problem or even the overriding problem, but he is not free from criticism while the rest of teammates get ripped for their performances.

Wait a second. Cody and Tyler aren't in the same class there Alferd. Tyler is a sophmore, cody is a junior. They don't graduate at the same time... or am I crazy?

You're right.
Tyler burned his redshirt last year as a true freshman.
This is his second year playing.
his third year would be 2010 and he would graduate (or complete eligibility) after the 2011 season.

Cody redshirted, then played in '07, '08, and now '09. He will be a 5th year senior in the 2010 season.

I won't go back and edit the post, but the correct point is that Tyler would have only 2011 to play after Cody is through. If Tyler redshirts now, then he can play 2011 and 2012, regardless of who else steps up at QB.

My source says that Hawkins believes this is for the good of the team and the team's future. Again, I'm just regurgitating it as food for thought. I don't know what to think anymore.

See I thought it felt more like stomping out that flaming bag on your front porch a little after midnight on Halloween... So far all the bags have been filled with ****!

I have a hard time believing this tread. This would be a huge secret to keep, and there are a lot of mouths to silence in this one. Not likely to have been kept a secret even this long.
