Poor Tackling

When did we become such a poor tackling team? Players aren't moving their feet, aren't breaking down, are reaching for tackles (arm tackles) and are tackling high.

It is one thing if we aren't as talented or aren't as fast as the opposing team, but a lot of our problems on defense are from broken coverages and missed tackles.

I hope Collins means what he says in this quote:

"We've got to go back to the basics and emphasize techniques and coverages that we know and get better. We tried to do too much in the (Toledo) game and it showed. We had too many people trying to run in and out on the field; that was an issue."

Simplify the defense and let these guys play!

They are thinking way too much and it shows with how slow they're playing the game. Start hitting in practice and toughen these guys up.

This is a huge issue, we need to go get someone from a service academy like Navy to coach the D up a little, our fundamentals are terrible.

you bring up a good point...with solid tackling we would of come up with several negative yardage plays against both CSU and Toledo.

Apparently we are going pads only once per week... the team just isn't used to tackling... Hawk is in fear of injuries to the point it is hurting the team ANYWAYS.

dude...if that is true...that SUCKS....they should be in pads 3 times a week with no contact jerseys for QBs and dinged up players that are going to play.

I'm speachless. Back to basics? What in the hell were they doing during the off season? Advanced techniques? Way to go brownie.

we are so bad in many of our fundamentals: tackling, blocking, route running. We need to practice in pads, sleep in pads, eat in pads, anything to make us a tougher team.
