Major's Late Hit Penalty

From the stands on the opposite side of the field, it looked like Major first made contact in the field of play and didn't do anything to wrap or pull him down once they were out of bounds.

For those of you who saw it on TV and got to see the good replays, was it a penalty?

P.S. Great to see Major on the field. Finally. His closing speed was impressive and he's got a nose for the ball.

Was on the west side at the end zone and thought he hit him in bounds. The question is that the QB was giving up on the play and heading out of bounds and should it have been called. I say no as he was in the field of play so I thought it was a bad call. I haven't seen it on TV but I reoreded the game and will look at it later.

What number is Major? I had no sound where I was watching so I didn't even know he was in the game.

I thought it definitely shouldn't have been a penalty. It looked very close as to whether he was hit before he actually stepped out of bounds, which answers the question in my mind. A late hit penalty should be an obvious late hit.

That is a bogus call. How do you expect the guy to slow up or see exactly where the QBs foot is? There was a similar call in the Toledo game.

There was a very similar hit on McCoy in tonight's game and it was not called, and I don't think it should have been called either.

Here is the deal. He hit him in bounds. But, I think, the officials saw that he was obviously going to the sideline, the hit came like a foot from the sideline, so they called it. I have no problem with the call, really. He should have pulled up. But it was "bang bang" for sure.

I'm not just saying it was a bad call because it was against us, I hate borderline calls. If there's any doubt, then don't make the call. I'd rather watch a game that's under-called rather than over-called any day.

I saw it on TV. It was bull****. If you don't want to get hit, get out of bounds before the defender gets to you, or slide. He was well within bounds.

I saw 2 flags, so it was a multiple BS call

Watched it in slow mo with a sh!tty picture, it looked like the QB's toe was OB. Major has some friggin wheels though, great to see him out there.

He played a very good game, and that was a fair play. Who did he "replace" in the lineup? I saw a little of Moehler, Rippy, and Smart, seemed like Beatty, Burton and Smart had the most snaps, followed by Major

At one point it was Major, Mohler and Rippy.

I thought it was a good call live. Seeing the replay I think it was bogus. The QB was in bounds and could have turned upfield, although I don't think that was his intent. It was also interesting that neither official on the sideline made the call, it was the referee in the middle of the field who threw the flag. A Wyo fan sitting behind me pointed that out, and also felt it was a weak call...

And yes, great to see Major in the game. Seemed like he made several plays, too, although it was hard to know since the throwbacks didn't have any names....

Rip,major and beatty are going to be damn good. Sipili had a nice stick today too.

I thought the DL played much better, especially herrod, cunningham.

The problem I have with this call is that you know they wouldn't have called it a late hit if that was a running back. I don't have a problem protecting QBs when they are in the pocket, but if the QB wants to run, they need to be treated like any other player.

The other problem I have with this play is that if that's a good running QB out there and the LB doesn't go balls out, the LB gets juked and the QB is sprinting down the sideline for a huge gain.

It was a clean play IMO. I was pissed when it was called, and even more pissed when they replayed it twice on the big screen

Ref had his flag locked and loaded to throw as soon as he saw Major continuing to pursue their QB toward the sideline. Premeditated call.

The guy was in bounds, but right at the sidelines - it was a bad call, but close. The same thing happened in UT-TT and Kirk said he didn't see a problem with it and Mooseboogers said "that's football."

Exactly!!! I'm sick of these marginal late-hit and roughing the passer penalties they are calling more of in recent years.

it happened about 20 feet right in front of me... first of all he was in bounds but i think what drew the flag was that major hit him so hard that it knocked him into the wall and the refs panicked. however i will say that the game was fairly well officiated

It was a bad call as even though he was going out of bounds he was still in when Major hit him.
