anyone else cringing about what lies directly ahead of this team?

i sure hope the bye week allows them to focus on the stuff they do well and also to finally figure out how to get the right guys on the field at the same time.

wvu, texas, and ku...

all are markedly superior in nearly every way to our current Buffs. speed, coaching, athleticism, execution, everything. ku is the "weakest" of the 3 and they still look lights out better then our Buffs.

i really hope they find a way to win at least one of these games. it would at least keep the dream of a bowl game alive. drop all 3 to go to 1-5 and it will be ugly.

dude, this is gonna be enertaining in a sick way. people were all upset about michael vick fighting dogs, if you ask me hawkins has set us up for one asskicking after another. can't wait to see his zen in about 8 weeks

I still think Hawk need to be terminated as head coach.
The only way this will happen is CU getting their butt kicked
in the next month. I think this will happen and 1-5 will be a reality.
Will Bohn pull the trigger or wait till Nov 28th ?

If we start 1-5, in Bohn's eyes there is no need to pull the trigger. The only thing this would do is publicly get the coaching search underway and perhaps get a jump start on recruiting...Bohn is not that smart and for purely short-term financial reasons will ride it until the end of the year regardless....and that will hurt us long-term.

I was going to start a thread along these lines, but I'll just reply here instead. These next 3 games look daunting to say the least, but I think the only way we survive is to take them one at a time. It's cliche, but it's true.

West Virginia - tough game to be sure. We haven't shown any ability to win on the road, let alone over a good team. But we have beaten WVU, and the principal players haven't changed much since we did. And for those Cody-bashers out there, Cody was the QB when we won. He is not even close to the playmaker that Pat White was, but he got the W. Speedy looked great against WVU and appears to be getting healthy. Scott is supposed to be healthy. Simas/Simmons should benefit from a bye week. D got some confidence from Wyoming shutout.

Let's focus our efforts on the WVU game and leave the next two games for afterward. A win in Morgantown is going to take a tremendous effort in all 3 phases. But you gotta admit, a win would be epic! I'm going to leave the Texas talk for the Friday after WVU.

GO BUFFS!

having said all that, I'm VERY curious to see how the next couple games go. Who knows, perhaps our defense is back to form and our O can eliminate mistakes and stretch the field a bit. Perhaps Hawkins can manufacture the biggest turn around in years...pull in some master recruits and we are in the national championship in 2011-2012 :)

I actually thought neb was going to be a better team than WVU going into the year, and I still think that's true. Granted, we get the *uskers at home and we play WVU on the road, but I bet that neb will be playing for quite a bit by the time the day after turkey day rolls around, so that evens it out for me.

I'm not sold on the arguement that we will lose to WVU without a doubt. I watched them play this weekend and that QB is big and can run. That scares me, but he didn't really seem to be that great of a passer and the rest of the skill positions (excluding the TB) didn't look particularly great. Plus, it's the QB's first year playing and he appears to be making lots of mistakes.

The above said, we will need to score in order to win. In order to score, we will need to be able to run the ball. In order to run the ball, we will need to be able to get some guys out of the box. I'm hoping these two weeks give Simmons and Simas enough time to get over whatever is keeping them off the field. Whether it be injuries, problems with Hawk, not gelling with Cody, not knowing the playbook, or whatever else, we need the guys on the field and we need them now. I really believe that we can move the ball on WVU's defense, but you better believe that they will be coming after el hawkito so we need to have some dudes on the feild that can burn them when they try that.

i think we get a couple of interior ol back for the wvu game too... maybe that will help if they are game-ready.

i have so little confidence in this staff... a road game, national tv, at night, against a very physically gifted team with a good coach? it is a big ask for these guys. they've only managed like 2 road wins ever at CU.

but, there are a few glimmers of hope...

if they somehow get a win over wvu, it would take the sting off the nearly inevitable 60 point beat-down the next week against texas, at least maybe a little.

Going to sound like a broken drum. I am very worried that any confidence gained in the WY win goes out the winder in the first quarter of the WVU game. What I want to see is a team coming out ready to play. Making some plays on offense and not getting completely embarrassed on defense. 1-5 is a distinct possibility but how the team and coaching staff responds in these games will be telling.

Nope. I was worried after the CSU game, but I pretty much know where we stand as a team right now.

And really our only hope for improving is if our running game gets better.

And it's going to be hard for the running game to get much better when the opposing team can put 8-9 in the box all day long...:sad1:

The lack of any vertical passing threat (Cody will overthrow them if they do manage to get open which isn't very often with Scott, Espy and crew) is going to be the nail in the coffin of this offense, IMO. If you can't stretch the field and make the defense defend all of it, you're screwed.

2-6 going into November seems to be the best case scenario I can come up with.

Next 3 games might be ugly. K-state on the road? Mizzou at home

I miss the days when the excitement of watching how much cu would beat teams ***es by and tough games where you knew cu would find a way to win.

Now it's more of hoping we can stay close in the first quarter or half.

I miss those days too. Those days wont return while DH is at CU.

Yeah I am cringing. I think we need to win two of the next three to even continue to entertain hopes for the kind of year we thought the Buffs would have (7 to 8 wins)....not what Hawkins predicted.

Unless he has been sand bagging and unveils all his top players in major roles to shock the next three teams we play I don't see two wins happening. And the notion that he might be doing this is too absurd to be possible.

Incidentally, winning all three with "quality" (not getting dominated all game and winning off a freak fumble or something) might actually make me feel like we need to give him a little more rope

I just watched the Big XII Recap last night, and it's pretty sad how polished all the teams in the Big XII look compared to where CU stands. If we were to play KSU, ISU, Baylor....it doesn't matter all would demolish us.

Agreed. Watching all the other games on Saturday, I don't see anyone have half the issues getting plays in or players onto the field.

Watching other games I listen to the TV announcers talking about an offense trying to exploit what the D is doing, the D trying to take something away the offense does. Both teams attacking.

You watch CU and you hear the announcers talk about CU needing to hurry out of the huddle, take a time out 'cause the play clock was at 1, or delay of game.

I don't see anything on O or D that is different from week 1 to week 3.

The WVU game should further expose CU for being far from a contender in the Big XII

Imho, this is the most important week of our season. We have to get Simmons, Simas, and Wright up to speed quickly and we have almost 2 weeks to do it. Defense needs to bring it up a peg too eventhough they played well last week. Continue to tackle and keep it simple, hopefully Mahnke can get 100% cause I dont think he has been yet. Also get our young guys like Rippy, West, and Major alot of reps, we need them badly against WV, Bosnu too. Last but not least, the DScott situation. Im sorry but I cant put this all on the coaches, honestly, I think its a combination of both the coaches and DScott as to why he hasnt consistently produced. Really dont care what is done, DScott needs to step the hell up, his team needs him. If we can get him and Speedy going and producing at the same time, we will be able to compete with almost anyone. Imho, the preparation and what is done right now to prepare for WV, is critical for this coaching staff. If we lay an egg when they have had plenty of time to prepare, should tells us for sure that maybe this staff is a walking clusterf*ck. Kinda already have my opinion on that, but im wanting to see the results of this test.
