How important is it to have an AD from the school?

Looking at some top programs over the years it is interesting to see how many have AD's that are alum.

Does having an AD that bleeds Black and Gold result in better programs or does it have no effect?

I dont think it matters. Bohn isnt from CU and I'd say he's as good of an AD in the appearance of bleeding black and gold department as we've ever had. I'm actually kind of a fan of Bohn, dude works his ass off for support. I, for one, appreciate that. The $10 ticket promotion was timely and fantastic for a team that needed a full house. Good job, fans btw.

He did grow up in Boulder.

Maybe I've got a soft spot because I'm a businessman with a marketing background, but I'm a big supporter of Mike Bohn.

I do think it helps a lot to have roots with the university. Being a "true believer" and knowing the landscape always improves job performance.

Mike Bohn has done wonders for the AD as a whole, which is his primary job. Yes, his large program hires have turned out to not be so good, but very few were questioning them when he made them. There is VERY little reason to look at removing him.

As of now I don't have anything to dislike Bohn. I do see where having an alum as your AD can be advantageous. The AD would know first hand the traditions of the school and be passionate about it. Bohn being from Boulder is pretty darn close.

Well knowing all that and he's basically a Buff anyway, so that isn't bad. The hirings have been iffy, but other than that he's been solid.

Mike Holder, OSU alum and former golf coach, has done a really good job for Oklahoma State, from what I've heard.

He also really wanted to go to CU, but Chairbanks gave him the stiff arm, so he settled for KU.

He has said that Fairbanks did him a huge favor by not recruiting him, though. Apparently, Bohn felt that it would have been difficult for him to come back to CU as an AD had he played football here. I'm not sure of his reasoning for that.

To answer the question - I don't think it's important at all. In fact, I think it can get in the way of objectivity at times and be a detriment.

Under Bohn we've started a lot of new traditions. I think he's been a great hire and AD for the school. Now his coaches just need to start producing.
