....Danny had not said "10 wins, no excuses," and had said that 2009 would be a tough year, with 2010 the year we win 10 games? He certainly would have lowered expectations, and perhaps would not be feeling the wrath that is barreling down on him now.

Personally, I didn't put any stock into the 10 wins comment, and I wouldn't feel any differently about the team had he not said that.

I was tired of Hawkins last year. Having the season over before we even enter conference play this year really is inexcusable.

He would still be feeling the wrath because the team would still look completely overmatched and lost in the first four games. Lowered expectations or not, no one and I mean no one, would be happy starting 1-3.

I would be fed up as well,, but perhaps a bit more patient in calling for an immediate change.

I really don't think that made much of a difference. Very few people here were thinking 10 wins, but at the same time you can see that the schedule was easier and being in year 4 now, 8 wins was a very realistic if not an expected goal. He still has a chance to turn things around in conference play, although we haven't seen many if any signs that that's going to happen.

Good point as well. If you looked at preseason win predictions here, I don't think many put much stock into the ten win prediction anyway. Most seemed to think 7-8 wins was a reasonable goal.

It's not as much as the w-l record, as the way it's happened. There isn't much hope of a turnaround when we can't do basic blocking and tackling.

I don't buy it. I had an estimate of games this team could win independent of his statement. Because of three easy nonconference games and a Big 12 that wasn't supposed to be as strong as last year, my expectations were 6 wins minimum and no more than 10. We were getting good reports out of camp but Hawk kept a lid on most information so we can't be blamed for having much higher expectations from the little we could hear. The QB race was neck and neck and we had Simmons and Simas to look forward to, guys like Nick Kasa and a healthy Ryan Miller as some of the best in-state talent we've had on the roster in a while.

Playing from behind the entire game at CSU changed that, as did the way in which we lost the two road games. Hawk has "no excuses" for this team not showing adequate improvement after the fourth game.

Personally I never saw 10 wins. However, I didnt see us getting completely outclassed by 2 teams we should beat the holy **** out of either. No excuses sounds about right to me. Id cut the guy a little slack if we werent making the same bull**** mistakes every week.

It doesn't matter what Hawk has said or says now.

We lost to a CSU team that barely beat Weber State on a lucky unforced error, beat a Nevada team that is busy getting killed by everyone they play (up till yesterday when they played an even worse UNLV team) then got plowed by BYU and lost to the mighty Idaho Vandals.

We lost to a Toledo team that is a lower end team in the mighty MAC and gave up 50 points in getting embarassed on national TV.

We did manage to beat a pathetic Wyoming team that came in looking for a beating.

We got embarrassed again on national TV agains WVU. Losing to WVU at their place is not a terrible thing but losing the way we did is. We looked inept, we could not pass, could not consistently run, and were constantly out of touch on D letting WVU dominate the highlights on sportscenter with a bunch of long TDs that looked like we were a HS team.

If the team was getting beat on talent, if we were competitive losing at the end of games, if it looked like we were getting better then it would be excusable. What we have seen is not, no matter what Hawkins says.

I figured if we got the breaks we'd get 8+ wins, if the ball didn't bounce our way 6+ wins. Losing to Toledo and CSU to start the season didn't really cross my mind. Maybe losing to CSU did, but I figured for sure we'd still be 2-1 heading into WVU where if we got some turnovers, say four or so, we should be able to take them.

ditto, 10 and no was more of a joke to me, preseason hype and all. hack lost me last year and i wanted him gone then but would wait ti see how he did this year. the record confirmed my misgivings.

Im glad he said it because he essentially poured gasoline on himself. The statement has had no bering on the outcome of the year. But it will have a bering on how fast the hounds went after the hunted and how quickly he'll lose his job.

There is no excuse for not starting this season 3-0. None whatsoever. Whether he made that comment or not the 0-2 start to this season is still an epic failure.

maybe he meant 10 wins over 3 years. He would still be wrong if the current pace continues.

....Danny had not said "10 wins, no excuses,"
I think this has become the equivalent quote to Bill Callahan's infamous "I'm doing a great job in all areas" quote during our disastrous 2007 season. I really, truly feel for you guys - this looks and sounds so similar to the hell we went through under Callahan. I sincerely hope CU can find a great hire to replace Hawkins, I'm afraid that I join most of you in thinking its come down to that being the only light at the end of your tunnel right now. A competitive CU is good for all of the Big 12, including the Huskers.

I didn't take 10 wins as a guarantee, but a reflection that Hawk was saying the team was ready to be competitive. To me, and I would guess most fans, that means beating lesser conference teams (CSU, WY, Toledo), being within spitting distance of quality teams (WVU, KU did I just say that?, Okie St., Mizzou) and beating KjSU, ISU, taking out a couple of those quality teams, and landing a bowl game by, finally, beating more temas in the regular season than beat you. IF those things happened, I don't think many would have been screaming so loud.

But this time got whipped by two teams EVERYBODY had penciled in as wins. They looked crappy in the process. The O looks pathetic, and the QB situation remains pathetic. He made his own bed and has had time enough to make the team look like it is ready to be comeptitive in the B12. We aren't and that is going to show over the next few weeks.
