Has The Kevin Sumlin Ship Sailed?

I think eventually he will get a BCS job, but hes as equally stubborn as the Texas Pirate.

For his coaching on the offense, specifically non stop passing of the football. They were embarassed badly on defense, but this has gone on throughout the season with them getting trashed on defense but winning by outscoring their opponent.

Did yesterdays performance cost him consideration?

It's surprising, but I still like the guy and would welcome him. My #1 priority is a young ambitous coordinator from a Florida, Texas or something.

Lots of one year wonders out there.

People are all over Steve Sarkisian from Washington - and he might do great. But lets review his performance in two or three years. Kevin Sumlin might be outstanding - but lets wait until he's been a head coach for three or four years before we crown him the next big thing.

Personally, I don't want a "hot coach." I want an established coordinator who is hungry for success and willing to take the job for a reasonable price.

or a former head coach that has had proven success but whose boosters or fanbase got spoiled and got rid of..

Do they specifically have to have ties to the school or area?

Not sure how others feel but I like Jeremy Bates.

Is Norm Chow just not an option? He's all over the offense and could bring in that blue chip QB.

Yes. We aren't asking for much.
Requirements are few, but mandatory:

  • Must be a graduate of CU.

  • Must have played on the National Championship Team.

  • Must have played in the pros.

  • Must have NFL coaching experience.
  • Must have had a winning record as a player, coach, high school, college and pros. Winning percentage of 90% or above strongly preferred.

  • Must be taller than 6'.

  • Must not have any offspring who play football, or conversely, must have offspring who play football.

  • Must have experience playing at least six different positions.

  • Must have ties to high school coaches in Texas, California, Colorado and Florida.
  • Must have long list of ***** secret, silent commits who will follow him anywhere, once he announces the new position.

  • Must be willing to come to Boulder, Colorado with little job security and fragile fan support, for a salary cut now.
Superbowl ring is optional, but highly preferred.

Did I forget anything?

Good haircut, maybe?

what has he done? He inherited a team that the Baylor coach built? Sounds like what Hawkins did in Boise doesn't it.

Way too risky imo.

Kevin beat 2 quality opponents. Every team can lose a game when they over look it.

My pipe dream is Shanny because he is avalible today and could save this years recruiting class. My realistic pick is still Strong.

Chow cant recruit to save his ass, thats why he's never gotten a head coaching Job and why Carroll forced him out to Keep Sark and Kiffen around.

Bates is playing with recruits Kiffin and Sark brought in, and hasnt exactly wow yet, WAY to risky.

Pretty much right on. Never really cared for old school WAC or PAC football. Too inconsistent. If the QB has an off day, you're toast. I'd pretty much view his hiring as a lateral move. If nobody else will take the job, then fine. Meanwhile, I'd like to see us set our sights a little higher.

Absinthe, Bates is playing with recruits that Pete Carroll brought in rather than recruits brought in by Kiffin or Sark. Carroll & the U$C brand handle offensive recruits.

Bates could get our offense going going, but I think hes several years away from being a well rounded candidate. But I would support the hire.

I've moved on to Gus Malzoln and Charlie Strong as my favorite replacements. What Malzoln has done with the Auburn offense is nothing short of incredible. He could probably squeeze above average QB play out of Cody even!

The inventor of the Wildcat huh? That would definetly be a Wow hire for us, but this guy doesnt stick around long at all at any of his jobs. The last thing we need is another guy using Colorado as a stepping stone job.

Strong would be a lateral hire IMO. Hes been nothing more than a whining jerk off blaming race whenever something doesnt go his way.

I'm not very familiar with Strong other than the fact that his defense is always stellar. I'm not sure why someone down in the SEC hasn't given him a shot, but I wouldn't hate to see CU give him his shot. He also has a son, but he's already going to college in Chicago and as far as I can tell doesn't play QB!

I just read up a little on Malzahn* and I'm now more impressed. I'm really not a huge fan of the spread, but this guy seems to know how to use it. His is also a more balanced spread than a TTech type of spread which I like. I think he'd stick around as HC for awhile and is apparently a high school coaching legend in Arkansas. I wouldn't be opposed to getting a few more recruits from the Arkansas and Louisiana area.

Strong doesnt really coach up a stellar defense, he just has some of the best athletic talent to work with at Florida. He has been a coordinator for years but this guy has turned down mid level jobs, expecting a BCS job for his first go round. Then had the nerve to blame it on race:cry:.

Yeah his track record is impressive, but his lack of lonjevity at programs(even in HS) is a downside. I have reason to believe he could take us to the next level though with recruiting.

Well in college the only mark against his record would be him and Nutt not getting along at Arky anymore. Then he went to Tulsa for a couple of years and I don't blame him for heading for greener pastures with Auburn.

You seem to know more about Strong than I do so maybe he isn't a good candidate.

I do like the idea of getting either an offensive guru or a defensive guru in here. Then in theory they can get someone for the other side of the ball and let them have free reign.

The Arkansas situation cost Nutt his job, he was equally wrong for going back on a previous plan.

Strong would be a good candidate, I just think that if he were as thought of by AD's as highly as he thinks of himself then he would have a BCS job by now. I do think those rumblings this offseason about UCF will lead him there.

Im with you 100% on that.

You guys are right, you don't know Strong. He comes to my office every year I've been HC even though I have no one that can play for Florida. He knows odds are we will as a 6A school. He is the hot canidate for replacing George O'Leary at UCF right now. Is CU a better job than UCF? Based on tradition and BCS membership, yes, but based on $$$ and recruit proximity...hmmmmmm. If they get the anticipated Big Least invite they'd be BCS with some of the best facilities incluing the only indoor facility in FLA.(Lightning capitial of the world...those strikes cancel practices quick.)

Also, one reason he hasn't left UF is he'd take a pay cut for most HC jobs.
