Funny quotes from Hawk on Shields leaving: "It's a lot of things"..

 Is Hawk aware how much we are laughing at him?

"It`s a lot of things," Hawkins said. "I think he feels a little more comfortable closer to home. It`s a lot of things. I mean, it`s not just football. I think he has tried to adjust since he`s been here. I think it`s a lot of things. I had a good discussion with him today. So, we`ll wish him well and hope he stays on track."

Its the little things, its a lot of things, I think its a lot of things, We'll see.. He's like a walking comedian now..

Could it be possible that it wasn't just football? Of course not. It is because Hawkins is a terrible coach and he wants to go where he is appreciated!

DBT. I'm more patient than most of the Allbuffers, but I can't envision a scenario in which Shields leaves if the football thing is going well.

Not saying it's Hawk specific, but I'm confident it's related to the team somehow.

As the guy who broke this story (Rep me?!?! Just kidding)... Hawkins is so full of $hit with this quote, that it's coming out of his ears.

Especially since he plans on staying here at school through the semester. Wouldn't u think someone so homesick would be leaving the university? If it's not mostly about the coaches and his role on the team, how come he is staying in school through the end of the semester but not playing football? If he's here til the end of the semester, wouldn't he stick it out through the end of the season?

Not a football problem, really?!?!?

The guy has been here for 2 full years, plus 1/4... He still hasn't adjusted????

The biggest issue:

Hawkins said he believes Shields plans to remain in Boulder and finish out the semester. If he does not, he would leave the program ineligible and would be a bigger hit to Colorado`s Academic Performance Rate score.

wow... Really?

Possibly because it's too late to drop classes and he doesn't want to fail out of a semester of school making it impossible to transfer somewhere else and enroll in classes in the spring.

Not saying Hawk is or isn't full of ****, but staying in school doesn't change things one way or the other.

Exactly, so if you are going to stick it out, why not stick it out on the football team. He has no redshirt left, and as a starter the first 3 games, he's used his eligibility for this year.

Why not stick it out if it isn't a football problem? If you're homesick, but here anyways...

Maybe he is genuinely unhappy playing football at CU? As such, he stops. Might as well use that football time to focus on school...

I think it's pretty obvious that he is quitting the team because he is pissed about playing time and could very well be throwing in the towel on football in general. If he was truly homesick he would either leave now, which he isn't, or stay on the team until the end of the semester and then leave at the semester.

Painful to watch this guy continue like this.

Asked Sunday if the nonconference portion of the schedule revealed anything to him that was a surprise, Hawkins chuckled and said, "Well, you expect to win a few more games. No not necessarily."

Always with Hawk, everything is according to plan. I really don't want to be embarrased this weekend. Please Buffs, show up and play your heart out despite the poor leadership.

What's with all the negative nancy stuff here? It's not like we are thin at DL or anything. Sheesh.

I know right? Things are about to 'pop' and Shields leaving isn't part of a trend. To those who would say we're sinking like the Titanic I say NO... we're soaring... like the Hindenburg.

I get that you are tired of negative stuff on these boards but what I think Jimmy was pointing out is how silly that quote sounded. Trying to make a point is one thing but repeating yourself many times comes across as disingenuous. Like he's trying to convince himself.

It doesn't really matter why Shields left at this point. He's gone and I wish him luck in football and in life. Hawk needs to focus on the kids who are here so we don't lose any more.

Well then it's time for one of the other players to step up and take advantage of the opportunity. See Ray Polk.
