Wow Unleash, that's a bold question. I gotta say, I think he'd stay and do his best (he always has), but this program will no doubt be going in a new direction at QB next year regardless of HC.

He would stay. I don't think there is any question about that. As to what would happen to him on the depth chart. That is for the coach to decide. Who knows.

This has been on my mind letely. I was just curious as to peoples opinions on it. I just think it would be hard on Cody.

He'd stay and probably do anything possible to retain his starting spot...and if that didn't happen he'd be the #1 fan, supporter & coach to the guy that took his spot...Cody's a class person who I bet bleads Black & Gold the rest of his life, no matter what happens to his dad

Perhaps I should clarify:

If Dan is canned during this season, Cody will continue to start, although we'll prob start to see other qb's in garbage time

If Dan is canned after the season, then Cody stays, competes but does not start. He would be a fantastic #2 considering his abilities and knowledge of the program.

Now the question becomes:

*What does it take for Dan to be gone before the season is over (something like 70-3?),

*What does it take for Dan to be gone after the season (really bad recruiting class?), and

*what does it take for Dan to stay for year 5 (6 wins?)

I think there needs to be an option 4. Stays and competes.

Yeah, this is kind of obvious - one year to graduation, and really, as I and other people have said, this is not about Cody, it's about how the coaches develop and use the available talent.

I really doubt you guys fire Hawkins this year. It's going to cost to much. I'm thinking at the end of next year if he still suxors.

I think Hansen or Hirschman will start. Hirschman can play and we will be lucky to get him. Hell he could play for us now, who can't throw a 4 yard out?

Can you justify your certitude? From my view, if Hawk is the coach in 2010, Cody is the starter.

I've come to this conclusion based on the fact that Hansen is redshirting this year despite poor QB play by Cody, clearly showing they want him to be the go-to-guy next year.

Plus, it's been a poorly-kept secret that Hansen would be playing this year if not for said redshirt and potential dicipline issues.

Further, I just don't think it's possible that Cody would return as the starter after what will now be 2 years of awful play and dissapointing seasons.

Why would Bohn be putting his feelers out re: new HCs if he absolutely knew there´s **** all chance of him coming up with the money to buy out Talkins?

When you consider just how pissed off the general fan base seems to be by looking at opinions on here, I think Talkins´ buy out might be "chump change" compared to the cash they might lose out on long term if they keep him.

Honestly, I think the pressure is gonna become too much and Cody will get the hook at some point. However, the real question, is Hansen willing to take over and make it his team for good?

I don't really like commenting here, because as frustrating as our QB play is, I don't doubt they are trying hard.

I REALLY doubt this staff will shift gears at this point no matter how rough it gets for CH. TH has made a decision, and given the circumstances, I don't blame him.

I also REALLY doubt this staff will start TH next year either, since it would be an admission they squandered this year with a lesser QB when a better one sat the bench. If DH is here next year, it will be CH Part IV. JMO.

The reason I say that is, we know what we are getting with Cody, so does everyone else for that matter. He isn't gonna progress because I think he isn't coached well enough and has some physical limitations. With some proper coaching, honestly, I think he would be solid. I saw somewhere on another board someone compared Cody to Flutie. Lol, ok stop right there. Flutie had 3 things that Cody doesnt. He had running ability, big hands for a small man, and a very good arm. If you can throw the ball 65 yards or more, you can throw it. Flutie was also very good at finding passing lanes which Cody doest do. When he cant find a lane, he either hits a dlineman in the head, or throws a pick. Cody isnt coached very well, isnt it obvious? I couldnt think of anyone who would be more coachable. He has happy feet something fierce, I watched the Toledo and WV games again, as painful as it was, his feet are everywhere. Cody is very out of sink and has been for quite sometime.

Pretty much im blaming coaching if it isn't obvious. Cody has limitations that have been well documented by everyone. My question would be, why in the hell are you giving someone that has those limitations 52 attempts? That is exactly what everyone we play wants us to do, that is a fact. I understand our defense hasnt exactly done their part but you cant put it on the shoulders of someone that cant get it done as much as he wants to be able to, at least not in the way they want him to. Cody is somebody u definitely have to manage.

This.

I was actually thinking about this during the West Virginia game, and I thought if it happened, what's going to happen on Senior Day next year. I would hope that Cody would get the ovation that he deserves when they announced him, but am afraid he might get some boo's due to misguided criticism of his father.

Cody has used his RS year so barring another NCAA decision like Marcus Houston got his chance to play for another D1 team is gone. His choices are to A) Stay and try to compete B) Transfer to a D2 school C) Quit football.

I think considering the climate around this team and the anger over the current losing, I doubt a new coach would start Cody even if he competed well in camp. New coach, new start, new system, new QB.

He could transfer to a D2 school and probably do well. His dad's connections in the coaching business could get him well placed but it would be a huge come down for a guy who sees himself as a starting D1 QB.

He might drop football avoiding the innevitable questions regarding his dad and his link to the old system but I think he is to competitive and not a quiter.

Good question

I would hope that if there is a new coach Cody would stay and compete.

If he did anything else (transfer, quit) he would just prove to all his critics that they were right about him.

I would also expect any new coach to give him a legit chance at starting.

All that said, if next year Cody is still our best option at QB, 2010 is gonna be a whole bunch like 2009.

I previously thought Dan would need 6 wins (i.e. return to a bowl) to get a year 5 as it would indicate an improvement over last year's record. Now, I think he needs to just match last year's record to stay on. My expectations will probably slide again the more I hear about $ we don't have for the buyout and the new coach.

Cody wouldn't be human if he took it with a grain of salt. Nobody wants a parent to lose there job. I'm certain Cody realizes that his dad is just as expendable as any other coach who is not producing. And I also believe he would stay with the program and get his degree, even if he never played another down.
