Is There A Mendoza Line for QBs?

Meh. QB rating's not everything.

To me, the QB Mendoza Line is Wins over/under team expectations.

Seems to me if a QB's rating falls below 100 he ought to sit.

Cody Hawkins has thrown more interceptions — seven — than any other Big 12 quarterback, a figure Dan Hawkins called “alarming.” Cody has the league’s lowest pass-efficiency rating, the fewest yards per completion and attempt, and the lowest completion percentage.

If all of that isn't a "Mendoza line," I don't know what is.

The QB situation is so disappointing.

Doesn't matter, Dan will march him out there every week no matter how bad his stats are. Hawk will then cite Bobby Cox as his source for why you should never give up on your players. This year Bobby decided to march Greg Norton out as his go to guy pinch hitter in every close game. I believe Greg finished the season at something around 5-60. :bang: I swear sometimes coaches just don't use common sense.

I don't know if we have a better QB than Hawkins right now. TH looked disappointing last year when he came in, I'm starting to think that we just need to recruit a better QB.

Mendoza was a Gold Glove SS, so they cut him plenty of slack. Career .215 hitter. Overall MLB average is roughly .260. A .210 average is about 83% of that.

NCAA average pass efficiency is about 130. 83% of that would be a 107.9 rating. Mendoza wasn't paid to hit, though. Comparing him to a CFB QB, would be like an option QB who also averages 4 yds per carry. So for a pocket passer, should the 'Mendoza Line' be even higher?

He was also a true freshman coming off the practice squad who hadn't worked with the starters and didn't know the playbook. And he won a game.

The athleticism and the spark he brought were evident, I thought. I'd love to see what he could do now that he knows the offense and is comfortable with all his receivers. Hell, he's thrown more passes to Simas than anyone in the program.

:yeahthat:

I hate it when folks say that Hansen isn't as good, just because he didn't look great when tossed into the fire last season, as a true-freshman with a burned up red-shirt.

If Cody still had bad stats, but we were pulling out wins... well that is one thing. But Cody is clearly playing very, very badly, and he isn't even winning. Sometimes you just need to change the QB to spark a team.

The funny thing is that most of CH's good stats have come during garbage time  Those stats could be much worse.

Agreed with Nik and Dionisus, you can't expect TH to perform great when he was thrown into the fire last year. It's hard to get a read on how they played during the practices, but many reports said TH was neck and neck with CH. I have faith that if the job was really opened up next year someone would step up at QB. Whether it be Tyler or even Clark or Nick Hirschman, maybe even a JUCO. I just don't think it's fair at all to judge TH on what we saw last season. The dimwit coaches thought they could get away with putting TH in there and giving him 5% of the playbook to work with.
