I found my choice for CU's new head coach...

and its not even close. #49 on this list. Name alone wins out for me, but, the ability to give the opposing coach's the ol stink eye is an added bonus. Leach would **** his pants.

Well, that's a tease, considering there's no list.

Oh great, make me look like an idot.

Wasn't Gary Kubiak interested in taking the job around the same time Hawkins was picked? His job my be in jeopardy if the Texans don't do very well this year. Just throwing this out there. :p

Another Oklahoma City Buff?? nice. We're forming a watch party...period.

And to answer your question, no, I think the Kubiak debacle happened during the Barnett hire.

Ok, thanks. A friend and I were talking about that the other day. Wasn't sure when it was. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having him as a coach. Offensive dynamo.

You live here in the City?

# 63 Greg Gregory. He even looks retarded.

I'll REP you for that one. Literally laughed out loud. nice.

Yep...want to get back out to Colorado in the next couple of months for good, but, I'm from here and am back now that Im done with college. Theres something like 5 Oklahoma Buffs on this board.

Nice. I would love to move back to Colorado. Don't think that will happen though.

Speaking of Oklahoma. What about Venables?

Not to have a thread hijack here, but, what do the stars under our usnername mean? Noob question, I know, but, I'm noticing people that have similar post counts than me have less/more. I thought it was just a post count thing.

Venables may have a future, for sure. I personally hate the guy, so, Im probably a little clouded on that one. Hard to argue that the man fields an incredible defense year after year, though.
I'd have the same worries that I would with Mike Stoops/Pelini though. A) How much of his success is because how hard is it to get ridiculous talent to OU? B) Will he murder a player/ref/coach on the sideline?

Seeing as they put Helfrich on that list and had Charlie Strong way down in the low 30's I'd call it a bad list.

Well, one thing is for sure. Hawk is the start of it but now we need someone to take it to the next level and then some. I hate to say it but, I think is is like father like son. Can only go so far and then we reach the end of Talent.

I've met more Oklahoma-based Buffs (that I'm not related to) on here in the past few months of posting than I have in all my years in OKC. Wild.

No chance. Already tagged as Mack Brown's "coach in waiting" here in the ATX. That's how they were able to sign him to some ungodly $2M or something like that contract. Something we'd never be able to do because of the stupid CO state laws regarding length of public employees' contracts.

Someone needs to update that list. I counted several guys who are now head coaches.

To back up Buff Fanatic, it was when Barnett was hired. I still remember watching him cry on KCNC when he had the press conference saying he wasn't going to take the job.

Here's a thought...(would NEVER happen) but remember back in 2001(?) when Spurrier left Florida and Shanahan flirted with idea of taking the Gator job? Think he'd be interested now? Just curious what discussion comes about...

First, Welcome navybuff. Second, this may answer your question: http://www.allbuffs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39423

You're not totally crazy... :smile2:

beltway,
Thanks for the link, just joined yesterday so haven't fully explored all the archives yet.

Reading the thread reminds of a quote from "Dumb and Dumber...."
"So, you're telling me....I have a chance?!?!"

How many more years does Mack have left?

I think Texas, like Florida, OU, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State and so many other 'State' schools, has their football program set up under different employment stipulations, "self-funded thru private grants" so State employment limitations (salaries as well as length) can be bypassed.

Mack Brown spent 2008 talking about the naming of Will Muschamp as next-HC because, after Will's first season (2007), he was getting called for other HC positions. This would have put Texas with new DCs for something like 4 out of the prior 5 seasons, or 3 out of 4. Mack Brown wanted to stop that revolving door.

Mack said all last season that he had no fixed length of his predicted tenure - some have said "2010", some "2012" and most don't bother with any set date. If he's smart, he should exit and leave behind an NC-calibre team, like Darrell Royal handed Fred Akers for his first 1977 season with Earl Campbell. I'll use this farsightedness as another factor in evaluating Mack Brown's tenure.

And for Next-HC candidates, this is a great idea. Instead of hoping for a job "like Texas', just line up for that one. Get to the know the staff, the fans, the donors. THEN if Muschamp really doesn't like the situation, he can bail and take another program over.

I'm surprised this list doesn't denote Muschamp with that new title, and it's another suspicious 'quality factor' about it.

Absolutely zero talk down here about him leaving anytime soon. I think he sees himself as the "Joe Paterno of Texas!" (granted he is a little older than the Weasel who has tossed that quote out there before...):wink2:

Out of curiosity, are the arrangements with Muschamp at Texas and Jimbo Fisher at FSU binding?
