Whiteside is still talking to us. I think we got a decent shot here with track connections. Whiteside is a pretty good discus thrower, he finished third at the CA state meet. We happen to have a very solid throwing coach in Casey Malone, who just won the discus at the track nationals last night and has made a couple Olympic teams. This is one player to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Whiteside is an absolute stud. He still seems to love Cal, but he did say that he wants to take visits. This would be a very nice turn of events if we could land him.

Honey, I still like you as a friend, but I think we should date other people.:wink2:

AlferdJasper have you ever been to Agentina?

Re: '10 CA LB Cecil Whiteside (Committed to Cal)

Added the profile for you, BB. We need to keep a close eye on Whiteside.

Re: '10 CA LB Cecil Whiteside (Committed to Cal)

FYI, Casey Malone (CU throwing coach) made the finals of the world championships today. Instant credibility with a recruit.

I'm sure this is a big reason that Whiteside's coming on an official this weekend.

This could get interesting. Also, I'm pretty sure that other recruiting reports had talked up Whiteside and Hinder having developed a relationship. Who knows?

Hard to get too optimistic given all the turmoil right now, but this guy would be a monster get. By far the best defensive prospect of the Hawk era IMO.

What about Katoa and Kasa?

What about Katoa and Kasa?

I'd say getting Whiteside would be equal of either of those. With Katoa we had the Polynesian connection with Cabral, but had to fight against an aggressive Oklahoma. With Kasa we had the in-state advantage, but had to go against Florida. With Whiteside we've got Cabral and Casey (discus coaching), but we've got to go against Cal in one of their recruiting hotbeds.

Whiteside is a cut above IMO. Not to take anything away from Kotoa or Kasa, but Whiteside also plays in a pretty competitive division in California (same league as Clark Evans).

Re: '10 CA LB Cecil Whiteside (Committed to Cal)

...cut above? I thought Katoa was a real great get. He was really raw, but he had so much potential. It's all personal opinion, but although Whiteside is great, I think it's really hard to say that he's better than Katoa or Kasa at their respective points in careers.

Wow, just realized my Uncle (more of a second Uncle, but yea) is his Defensive Coordinator and throwing coach.

We had family that played for CU under McCartney and Neuheisel.. liking where this is going.

Wow. That's some really high praise. Go get'em Hawk!!

ESPN West Recruiting Blog on Whiteside's visit to CU.

He's visiting Arizona this week for the UCLA game and, along with the Cal and CU trips, that will be all of his official visits.

A couple excerpts:

"I had a great trip to Colorado, I really loved it there," Whiteside said. "That's one of the most beautiful campuses I've ever seen and the overall atmosphere the whole weekend was great. The game environment was a lot of fun and I love how passionate the fans are. I could tell all the guys on the team were there for one reason and that's to win football games."

"It's still pretty solid, I like Cal a lot," Whiteside said. "I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision and that's why I wanted to take some of these trips. This is a huge decision and I want to make sure I'm picking Cal for all the right reasons."

I wonder if that is a good thing, or a bad thing.

Went to ASU this weekend where they gave USC a run for their money. Sounds like Cal or ASU at this point. We're definitely playing catch up on this guy.
