If he comes here too, we should just hire Lloyd Carr and call ourselves Very Western Michigan.

Babb was in the same class as Toney Clemons at Michigan. He was considered a physical WR with great burst and crisp route running. Good speed, too (dad was a track star).

He left Michigan after his sophomore year and has sat out the past year. Unclear whether it was his decision to leave. Some Michigan blogs claim he was kicked off the team for violating team rules, but they also suggest that he may have stopped showing up before telling coaches he was transferring and that's all it was. Who knows.

Anyway, Babb will be able to play immediately at whatever college he chooses since he's already a year removed from Michigan.

Babb had 2 catches for 45 yards against Notre Dame in 2008, but never touched the ball again. In 2007, they burned his redshirt without getting him the ball.

Multiple internet sources are reporting that Babb is coming to Colorado.

Sweeeeeet.

We missed that boat when Mallet went to Arky.

There was an interesting story on that during an Arkansas game a couple weeks ago. Mallet's mom had reservations about Petrino after the NFL disaster and talked to Brian Brohm's mom about him. Mrs. Brohm absolutely raved about Coach Petrino and that's what sold Mallet on going to Arkansas.

Scout confirms that Zion has been talking to CU and we're definitely a possible destination.

Zion Babb, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound former University of Michigan wide receiver told Scout.com he has been talking with CU coaches about transferring to Colorado next summer.

Babb is taking classes at a junior college in California and is hoping to earn his associate's degree in May or June and then transfer to a Division I program. While he is strongly considering Colorado, the Buffs won't be his only choice.

"I'm still waiting," Babb said. "I'm trying to see what offers I can get before I make my decision."

Overheard some stuff at MBB last week that led me to believe we are expecting good news here.... Looking over the file, it looks like he will have to graduate from JC first, so I don't think he's heading anywhere before this summer. However, would be eligible to play in the fall wherever he goes.

McKnight, Simmons - Seniors
Simas, Celestine, Clemons, Babb - Juniors
Jefferson - Soph (could redshirt)
Ussery, Darden - RS Freshmen

I remain optimistic that this offense will explode next year... Babb would be the deap threat we desperately have been needing.

Celestine and Simmons should also be deep threats. If I remember right, Celestine was a 4.5 guy, but will still be one of our faster WRs.

Celestine had great speed and was able to stretch the field for us. However, he also had a case of the dropsies, and I'm not sure if his route running his FR year was that great.

One quick note about Babb - from doing a quick internet search, it seems that he was kicked of UM's team for multiple team violations. This includes texting when he was supposed to be doing other things I guess. I'm not sure if any of those stories are true or not, as they were found on message boards, and we all know how suspect message board posters are.

I'm not trying to dis the kid though - it seems like a lot of kids did not like Rich Rod when he took over, and there was stark shift in culture that Carr's kids did not appreciate. I hope he comes here. I wish we could have gotten McGuffie, a RB from Texas that transferred from UM to Rice...oh well. Two of their WRs will do just fine.

Think his transfer to Rice had to do with family stuff. He wanted to be closer to home.

Celestine did come up with a big catch on 3rd down against Oklahoma in '07. He also had a big reception against CSU before he left the team. That looked like a TD to me too, but instead of challenging it, we gave D Scott his first and only rushing TD.

yes - he raises his little sister, and I think he was from the Houston area - at least that's from what I remember from back when he was HS senior.

Still though, there were a decent amount of transfers from UM once Rich Rod took over...good for us.

I overheard one of the coaches talking with an AD guy and I could only hear one side of the conversation, but they were talking as though this was certainly likely if not a done deal. I would subtract one scholarship out of the list of available based on what I "think I heard".....

Great scoop!

With the Celestine scholarship and this news, it's pretty understandable why we didn't recruit WR more heavily in the current class.

I'll wait to update the Roster thread until something is reported publicly, but I'll definitely pencil it in.
