Where will Hawk pull the plug? I'm figuring he will not go as high as 23 or 24. How many more will come 4,5 maybe 6??

From previous threads, I think Hawk's been quoted at wanting 21-22. Probably sitting in the Recruiting Forum somewhere.

Hawk needs to sign as many as he can get. I'm not saying that he just offers to get warm tackling dummies on the squad, but he needs to fill up this class as much as he can. I doubt he'll be able to fill it, but if he can get 23, take it - even if it's more than he wants. I actually think he's a good recruiter, but he has failed to really fill his classes.

It sounds like 21 is the number and that really there might be only three spots left right now.

There remains the possibility that Mister Jones and/or Danny Spond re-commit. Not saying likely, just possible.

We must think we've still got a good chance at Mister. (That, or another RB we're going to land.) Otherwise, it's hard to understand why we didn't send Muema a written offer.

RB is a crazy position. At this time last year, we had Sumler, Lockridge, Moyd, Scott, Stewart and Polk all at RB. Why recruit anybody else when you already have six guys fighting for playing time at the same position? Now we're atrociously thin at the position but it's hard to ramp up recruiting at this point. Getting Jones from New Jersey will be a help. Better yet if we can get Mister as well, but I think the real RB recruiting starts next year.

Based on the activity today guess the number originally stated in the thread title is up to what....17? Maybe the staff "felt" our upsetness over the weekend and stopped slow-rolling guys.

Actually, it looks like the strategy of getting the "under the radar" types is in full force right now, given the recent commits (T. Jones, Griffon, and Castor - where'd that switch come from?) Really hope the strategy works out, because given the situation in the People's Republic, it is definitely the "best case" scenario we need to have play out.

One good thing that's finally getting there is that our numbers are close to looking right both by class and by position. So when we have a down year on the field like 2009 (which will happen from time to time), and we miss out on a number of the 5*, 4* and high 3* guys who are everyone's radar, there is enough depth to recruit Big 12 level athletes who will need to redshirt and take some time to develop. Without that depth, we'd be forced into taking guys who aren't fast enough or big enough but whose games are polished enough to play right away (or forcing unpolished athletes to play too early). I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing on the recruiting trail at this point.

Gotta disagree. I appreciate that you can find a positive spin on this class, but I really cannot. I will just leave it at that.

Who knows, really? We won't be able to truly judge this class for 3 or 4 years.

The positive I can put on this class is this: Boise State. we are way ahead of them (as we always are) at this point. They will fill up with their guys who are unranked, 2 stars, etc. Ultimately, they take guys they see with upside and can develop.

Now people make the claim all the time that the genius at Boise State was really Peterson and maybe that's so. However, they won big before Peterson (under Koetter) with essentially a lot of our staff doing the bulk of the recruiting. They won after Koetter as well. So I think it's really kind of a stretch to say that this staff can't recruit or coach. I think they could and they did (although I"m still unsure on Denver Johnson).

But even with this list of recruits, I remain optimistic that there's a bunch of good football players in there. We are much better off at all positions than we've been in a long time imo. If the O-Line can somehow come together, this will be a much improved football team imo. I'm betting on maturity. If I'm wrong, I still feel the next coach will have a lot of good raw material to work with.

One question: if our commit list belonged to a rival or other Big 12 conference teams, what would be your gut reaction? How would you view the class?

I'd say it's a mile away from an Oklahoma or Texas class and in the bottom third of the conference. And that's how I feel about it knowing it's a CU class.

But I was expecting a disaster and instead I'm seeing potential. If it was someone else's class, I wouldn't bother with the film. Having watched the film on all of these guys, I see good Big 12 caliber football players (with one exception you can guess). I don't believe this is a class that delivers a championship, but I also don't think it's one that holds us back if we follow it with a top 35 class next year.

I am a touch below your optimism, but I respect your view. Its really not that far off from mine. I totally expected an epic disaster of a class, and this seems to be a semi-decent class that provides depth (if little gamebreakers or special playmakers). It won't kill the program, but it sure won't distinguish us from the iowa states of the league. If we have another year like this one (or even last years) next year... it will be very very very ugly around here for a while.

This class is not a disaster, but I am not doing back flips either. I see a lot of decent players, but where are the difference makers? Hope I am wrong, but we shall see.

I completely agree. This class reminds me of Hawk's first ever class - the one he pulled when he was hired. There were some guys to get excited about their potential, but there were no immediate impact players. I think this class has potential, but with how the season unfolded, I'm content with how it's shaping.

I will say that if we close out a certain way, I will be content as well. But right now, the coaches still have some work to do to make this class salvageable.

All I know is, there had better be some DT'S in these final commits. He can't be that stupid to not sign any dt's..can he?

Buffnik, is this the type of class that will bring cu a Big 12 championship or NC like hawk and miller promised? Don't think so but as the mantra goes...we'll see.

:stupid:

On a similar note, things have also been better than I expected as far as losing players from the current roster. Hopefully it stays that way through the spring and summer (and I would think guys that were going to transfer might have wanted to do so when they had the chance to get enrolled elsewhere for spring, but maybe not), that's the equivalent of adding some additional recruits right there...

I don't really know what to make of this class. The failure in the home state is extremely disturbing and that right there makes it a bad class imo. There are reasons to be excited, some of the commits look like they could be overlooked types that can be quality Big 12 players. Hirschman could be special imo. I'm not sure what to make of Munchie unless we plan on going back to the spread. Tony Jones, assuming he gets in, also could be special. The rest of the class seems like it's full of very lightly recruited types which isn't a good thing. Jered Bell I'm pretty excited about, I think he could be a Jimmy Smith in a few years. The DL recruiting looks to be pretty poor, not that Poston and Uribe are bad, but that's just not enough. Luckily, like someone said, this is basically just a depth class and we won't need most of these guys to really contribute for a couple of years.

Agree with you guys for the most part. Jones and Hirschman could both be gamechangers, Nick is already on campus, the big question mark on Tony is if he gets here. I think that (hope that) Hawk has done his homework and he does get in and become a big time player. I like that we seem to be getting some at least decent speed which is critical in a league that is full of burners. Our DEs may be guys who can start to put some pressure on passers which we have been sorely lacking in recent years.

I am of the belief that Hawk has one or maybe two more years to change the course on this thing before he is gone. Barring a major turnaround these kids are going to be the foundation for a new coaches program. In general I think that we will be in better shape than Hawk found it when he got here.

I think the class is about where rivals and the insiders ranks them. About the same as Iowa St., Baylor and Kansas St (although Baylor IMO is actually a much better class than the rankings indicate). It's okay to have a class like this for 1 year, but 2 or 3 classes like this would be disastrous long-term.
