IMO, we have a shot. A lot of people from the 4 corners area go to ASU or CU (if they do go to school). If we want him, it's there provided we do well in the upcoming year.

Re: '11 NM OT Matthew Hegarty

I can go watch this guy, I live 6 miles from aztec. Ill try to catch him when they play a little comp. Ill post something after that.

Re: '11 NM OT Matthew Hegarty

Recruitniks help me out here: how does Rivals not rate him, Scout give him 3*, and ESPN give him 5*?

None of the ratings are really set right now. Rivals has not given stars to any 2011 prospects, Scout has only given 4* or higher ratings to a few select players and ESPN is just giving everyone in their early top 150 5* for now. It will not be until next April or May that the ratings will start being more set.

This player here, Hegarty, is a good bet to be one of the better OL in the entire West along with an OT from Arizona that is getting plenty of early buzz.

Awesome!

(Be sure to wear CU gear, hold up a sign that says "Come to CU", and flirt with him as much as possible. :wink2:)

Re: '11 NM OT Matthew Hegarty

Ive seen him play once already but he was blocking a 180 pound de, thats what I meant by waiting till they play some comp. Ill check their schedule out when it comes out and go from there.

One of 19 juniors already selected to the 2011 Army All American Game. Hegarty looks to be one of the top offensive tackles in the entire West.

We have offered along with: Oregon, Stanford, Arizona, Minnesota, and New Mexico. He apparently wants to commit before the summer and he does have family connections to Denver and we could be pretty attractive to a kid from the Four Corners region. Would be a fantastic OT to build an offensive line class around.

You thinking 4*?

I keep reading he's likely one of the top 5 OL in the West for 2011.

Definite 4* and potential top 100 player. He should be getting offers from just about every Pac 10 school before it is all said and done. Christian Westerman from Chandler, AZ is most likely the top OL in the West next year (incidentally could be headed to Texas) and then there are a host of guys to round out the top 5. Hegarty is definitely in the discussion.

He and Brendon Austin would be a very nice combo. You think we take a full class (at least 5) of o-linemen in the 2011 class?

I'm not sure we can without some attrition. We only lose 2 next year to graduation. I'm thinking 4 is the max.

Texas is involved now and that is probably bad news for everyone else pursuing Hegarty. If he goes to one of UT's junior days (looking like a good possibility right now) and gets an offer, I think they become the odds-on favorite.

Holy ****! I never thought you'd see a kid from Aztec on here. I think we have a great shot! No UT connections in that area--mainly UNM, NMSU and TT. CU is pretty close (7-7.5 hour drive)

UT always has a shot.

UT does an excellent job of getting kids from Texas. Their history in getting kids from outside of Texas isn't quite as stellar. It's not bad, but I'd feel a lot worse about our chances with this kid if he lived in Houston.

This kid has liked Texas for a while. He went to their camp last summer and there was a lot of talk on the Rivals Main Board from the writer for the NM Preps site that Texas would be his "dream" offer. That is why I say Texas would most likely be in the driver's seat if they offer.

FWIW, Texas is also in great shape for an OL out of the Phoenix area. If Texas were to land both (and it looks like a distinct possibility), they could very well be nabbing the best two OL in the entire West for 2011.

I know a guy on Aztec's staff, I just havent seen him in awhile. If I run into him, Ill see what I can find out, if anything? I will for sure go watch him this fall.

UT recruits so well that a guy from Aztec went to a camp they had as a sophomore. Ugh. Talk about getting the word out early. With their recruiting budget it's no wonder they are honed in a guy like this really early.

Thats why its probably pound for pound the best job in college football. There recruiting has no limits and yet they hardly have to leave the state. ****ing Juicebox could probably win there lol. I dont know tho, his zen **** wouldnt fly in Texas.

I'd take USC over Texas. USC may not get 17 recruits to commit on Jr day, but they have no Oklahoma in their conference, so to speak of. We're just splitting hairs though because both are among the top 3 in CFB jobs.

That could mean Austin looks elsewhere. All for it.

I was thinking the same thing. That's 3 ESPN 150 OLs already committed for the Domers. Hopefully that knocks them out for Austin and it's either CU or Stanford.

Just reading some comments of Notre Dame posters on the Rivals mainboard (i.e, take the comments with a grain of salt), it sounds like they are still going to push hard for Austin and hope he finishes out their OL class. Honestly, Austin is one guy that will commit early (end of the summer timeline), but I could see opening things up late in the process.
