La Mirada was the champion of the C.I.F. Southern Section in 2009.

Torres was their best player.

Mike Moschetti is their coach.

Take a look at the Youtube video and ask yourself: if Mike is working hard to get the CU coaches to offer Torres a scholarship, do you trust him enough to offer?

My answer is a resounding "yes".

Torres is reported to be visiting Boulder this weekend on an OV.

He could very well end up being the scholarship fullback so many Allbuffers have been clamoring for.
 
Should be a preferred walk-on candidate IMO. We do not need to take another RB in this class, especially considering we have already offered two bigger backs for the 2011 class.
 
He could play a couple of positions at the next level. Seems to be more instinctive on offense than on D (imo, just based on the limited vids). Kinda runs like Toby G - right at or past people.

I think the staff should give this kid an offer. Looks like he could compete at RB, FB, ILB, OLB, and maybe H-back as well. Could see special teams duty pretty early.
 
Scout has a new article this morning on Justin Torres (goes by J.T.):

"He is an absolute stud," Moschetti said. "He grew a little between his junior and senior year and gained 15 pounds and he helped us go deep in the playoffs. So there was a lot of film of him.

"He just does everything right. You tell him one time and he's like a computer."

Moschetti envisions Torres playing as a tailback in a power running game or maybe as a fullback or H-back. He said Torres has good hands and played tight end at times for La Mirada.

Colorado is loaded with small and speedy running backs who can run between the tackles but lack the power to run over tacklers. Torres could fill that need, but he also has the speed for big plays when he gets into the open field.

"He's perfect for what they need," Moschetti said.

Moschetti said Torres is a good student with a 3.5 GPA and shouldn't have any problems qualifying academically at CU.

"A lot of colleges are comparing him to USC fullback [Stanley] Havili. He is a downhill runner. And what schools are really intrigued about is the fact he causes a lot of personnel problems because he can play H-back, fullback, tailback or you can even put him out at wide receiver."

"The last couple weeks, the phone has been ringing off the hook about him," said Moschetti. "He is tripping to Colorado this weekend. It all went down real quick with Colorado. We faxed his transcript to them and got a phone call back and they said they want him to come out on an official visit."

"Justin just wants to get an offer," Moschetti added. "He doesn't care about staying close to home."

Academically, Torres maintains a 3.5 grade point average.

Every class seems like someone comes out of nowhere and does some damage. Last year alot of young guys played well, I thought Forrest West was really good, much better than I expected. If he gets an offer or is a pwo, maybe itll be him. How good is the comp in that section for anyone that knows?

That is exactly my first impression when I saw this kid running the ball. And he is already the same size. Why not offer him?

Agreed, he should get an offer. Could play any number of positions.

It would be a really nice weekend to pick up commitments from Torres and Williams (lb, oh).

It would be a spectacular weekend if we get these two, and reain Spond's commitment.

I'll throw a little Cap'n Morgan's in my koolaid tonight.
 
Tape may be sped up, but this kid can play. Some times a few slip thru the cracks - you could easily slap 3 stars on him for all they're worth. Beggars can't be choosers and if he wants to sign, I'd rather CU take him than some other kid jerkin the staff around a week before signing day - let alone bank on offers out to high school juniors.
 
Torres is a Buff. Hagan called MM and informed him of the commit. Hagan said with the help of former Buffs, CU will get better.

Coaches offered the powerful running back this morning and he accepted, becoming the 19th member of the 2010 class.

"They got a good one," Moschetti said. "They're excited, he's excited, I'm excited."
 
We are going to need some guys to help create some space in the trenches for our backs next year. I see him as a FB in most situations leading the charge with him getting some touches near the goal line.
 
Last year we were aweful at 3rd/4th and less than a yard. Torres runs like a guy who can get two yards if the line doesn't open an obvious hole. Something the Buffs ahve missed since Vickers.
 
Both Justin and Cordary have been elevated to ** by Rivals.

This class is filling in nicely, and with the addition of a few preferred walk ons and grayshirts, it's adding good depth. Lots of very athletic guys. I'd love to see the Buffs close strong with a couple of pleasant surprises later this week.

I love the way this kid runs the ball. North and South with just little lateral moves to avoid tacklers. This is what we need...I know he doesnt have blazing speed but he's got shiftiness and looks like he can get the 6 to 8 yard pops and fall forward after hits. Lets get some size back into our backfield!
