That Moore cat from Mullen

Gonna sound like blasphemy to most, but I am not sure he translates to the college game all that well.

Agree, Mullen's recruiting Grade School players translates to athletes that peak in high school in many cases.

That translates to the Mullen players "disappearing" at the next level.

For the number of players they put in college, very few have been impact players in college.

And you are speaking with facts or just on a whim here?? What I can throw together off the top of my head below might beg to differ:

For instance Bo Scaife & Alex Smith both played at Mullen when I was in H.S. there....and both are starting TE's in the NFL

2006 class - Ricky Brewer has been a stud LB for CSU, Chris Carney has been KJuco's starting Safety for 3 years now, Chris Guarnero was an All-Pac 10 Center for Cal last year

2007 class - Devin Aguilar is an All-Pac 10 WR for Wash.

2008 class - Nolan Brewstar has played in every game for Texas during his 2 years there, Givens hopefully will pan out for the Buffs

That Brian Daniels kid or Ben Burney kid were complete wastes for CU as well

There are indeed hits & misses with every school, but the bottom line is that as much as everyone hates on Mullen for recruiting and winning each year....it should be CU's #1 priority each & every year, yet many of the guys named don't get recruited by the BnG as hard as they should.

Judging by some of the articles around here, someone better VISIT him. Man, I thought Cally left a trail of destruction. Hawk is on a scorched earth mission it appears.

He's already been offered. We're recruiting him.

My HS only had 300 students and has put 3 players in the NFL in the past 20 years.

Long Beach Poly regularly puts people in the NFL.

You put 10 names down, not all are difference makers. Which ones were all Big XII?

How about Greer, Stephone Robinson, Jesse White, Crunkelton, Carney fell to backup this year, Steve Watson, Clint Brewster, Nolan a 4* is in games but a backup,Morelli, etc.. They were the highly touted that disappeared at the next level

We could get in a pissing war over this all day, but the percentage of players that actually make it to the pros is less than half of a percent I would bet...I think that any kid who solidly contributes to any BCS Football program has done a pretty damn good job and is worthy of praise/mention.

I will concede that it is probably easier to get noticed & recruited from a school like Mullen vs. some of the other non-football tradition rich High Schools. A guy from Boulder H.S. will have to be a pure standout stud to get the time of day from the big guys. (Not trying to pick on Sacky's school in any manner...as last thing I'd want to do is piss him off and be forced to read the "mercenary" theory again :smile2:)

Ralph, I agree with your post. When you have a lot of good players surrounding you, you tend to look better than you are.

Bottom line is that Mullen does a tremendous job of coaching up players in HS. Players who are motivated and want to go to the next level.

Mullens football success however is more about the coaching than it is about the talent.
Thats why you only have a couple of professional level athletes out of the 100's who have played college ball.

Kind of like this year, alot of good players. Do you really think Miller and Jr are "pro"material?

100% completely DISAGREE with this statement. Mullen pulls talent from all over the region. It's head coach is on TV and radio every day. It's by far the most visible high school football program in the state, and that includes Cherry Creek. With the talent they pull there, they should win the State Championship every year. Their success has EVERYTHING to do with the talent level, and extremely little to do with the coaching, particularly the head coach.

So you're saying Logan is not a good coach there sacky? Ha ha I call bull**** on that one. How many coaches have won state titles with three different teams (and now Logan has 2 with Mullen)? Do you see Texas winning a national title every year? Because with their talent they should.

Very much agree....Sacky likes to go off on Dave Logan because he treats the refs and maybe the chain guys poorly , but the guy is a very good coach. There are not too many HS level coaches that have played in the Pros, work with a professional team etc. like Logan does. The talent level has a lot to do with it, but the only reason you attract that talent is because of Dave Logan. Mullen was good prior to Logan, but not NEARLY as good as they have been with him. That's completely due to the talent that he attracts and the way that he coaches them up & utilizes that talent.

And although I am a Mullen Homer, I will flat out tell you who the guys with talent are & who the ones without it are. I've openly stated that Miller is not a 3* QB, nor even a 1*. There wasn't a ton of senior talent from that team this year other than Nduka. That kid could play & I was vocal about CU going after him. This next year group of Seniors is loaded though, and although some of you might not think Moore's game equates to the collegiate level, the kid is a phenomenal talent. Logan has only started 2 true freshman in his entire HS coaching career. 1 being Lendale white, the other being Ameen Moore.

You can call bull**** all you want. I've seen him coach. Here's the system at Mullen - hire 20 assistant coaches to run practices and install the weekly gameplan. Seriously, they have something like 20 assistant coaches. That's not an exaggeration. Then have Logan run around the state recruiting players to come to Mullen. On gameday, Logan spends 90% of his time chirping at the refs. You think I'm lying? I've seen it with my own eyes. Mack Brown has 6 other guys just like him (Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Nick Saban, Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll - Kiffen now, Les Miles) with all the same advantages he has. There's nobody in the state who has the advantages Logan has. Nobody. He plays by a totally different set of rules than every other coach in Colorado.

The Texas example was a poor one. A better example would have been Carroll at USC. With the talent they brought in, they really should have won the MNC every year. Based on that, Carroll wasn't that great of a coach, IMO. A great recruiter. No, better than great, probably one of the best of all time.

How much does Moore weigh right now? If I remember right he was like 220 as a freshman, saw him on tv a few times. I dont think he should get any bigger than 225, 230 or his speed would take a blow. Didnt see him last year, did he get any faster? Saw him his first 2 years and he was just running over people, not running away from them, in the few games I saw anyway. Is there reason to worry he will eat himself out of the position?

The power running game is still his style. He's a big bruising RB, think he was listed around 215-220 last year. Speed isn't necessarily his forte (and probably why others think his game won't equate well in College), but he can be fairly illusive and reads the lanes very well.

I just read that he's planning to play his senior year at 205. (think it was in a new Rivals article but I'm too lazy to check)
