Rep to anyone who can provide a bio on a spring walk on

Here is the list of guys who joined the Buffs as walk ons this spring. It's been hell trying to figure out who they are and where they came from, because CUBuffs.com provided nothing but their names, positions, class and measurables (afaik).

So, here's your chance to be an AllBuffs hero (a claim that will certainly beef up any resume). Do some digging, get the skinny on one of these guys, post a bio in this thread, and raise your AB street cred to a new level.

I'll Rep anyone who come through on this one. I'm sure that others will also throw in some rep.

Here's the list:

WR #40 Alex Turbow, 6'1" 205 lbs, freshman
TE #41 Matt Allen, 6'2" 220 lbs, freshman
TE #40 Joe Fleming, 6'3" 240 lbs, junior
QB #13 Matt Johnson, 6'4" 200 lbs, sophomore
DL #72 Sean Gomerdinger, 6'2" 240 lbs, sophomore
DL #97 Guido Murnig, 6'2" 225 lbs, freshman
DL #99 Michael O'Connor, 6'1" 225 lbs, sophomore

Found this on a training site.:smile2:

John is a great trainer and an even better person. He works hard to always be up to date and incorporate the newest techniques for running and
lifting. I have worked with John for a little over a year and in that time I have put on 20 pounds of muscle while getting faster and stronger! John always makes workouts fun and interesting and he’s not afraid to joke around with his clients. I highly recommend John as a trainer for anybody who is looking to get in the best shape of their lives.

I had a buddy that tried to walk-on at CU when the weasel was coach. He basically said they ran only sprints the 1st two days for like an hour or two straight. Most guys just quit after a while, but the ones that made it through got to do some skill stuff, my buddy didn't make the team.

BuffInVA just earned some rep for Turbow and Gomerdinger.

I think that's two players in two years that have transferred from Mesa St. to CU in order to join the football team. Not quite sure what to make of that (other than Hawk needs to find another school's roster to raid...)

DL #97 Guido Murnig, 6'2" 225 lbs, freshman:

Strong fist pumping ability.
Can tan untill his skin turns orange
Pulls his shirt up all the time to show the ladies his rippling abs.
Might be able to persuede Snooki and The Situation to come along with him.

Same HS class from Mullen as Bryce Givens. He was 6' 1'' 225 coming out of HS.

Did not record a single stat for Mesa State in 2008 or 2009.

I found a Matt Johnson QB 6'5 210 Spring Mills, (Penns Valley) Pennsylvania from the Class of 2008, he attended the State College Nike Training Camp 2007 as a QB (listed at 6'4" 214 lbs). Not sure where (if anywhere) he went to college though. If he redshirted in 08 that would make him a RS sophomore in 2010.

The Matt Johnson on CU's roster is listed as a Sophomore 6'4" 200 lbs.

Who knows if it is the same kid, but the age seems like it could match. There are a bunch of Matt Johnson QB's from all over, but hard to find the right age.

Matt Allen - walk-on this spring. He was a starting offensive lineman on the 2008-2009 state championship Mullen team along with Mario Conte (DB/WR) and Josh Ford (RB).

He was also a track performer in the Shot Put:

Matt got a PR of 39-5 in the Shot Put at Cherry Creek/Grandview Invitational, placing 17th.

Matt went 38-11.25 in the Shot Put at Broomfield Shootout, placing 13th.

Guidicci (Guido) Murnig, Sr. Justin-Siena HS Braves. named as Marin County Athletic League (California) pre-season All-League coaches, First-team offense, Linemen:
Looks like he also played defense, obviously:

Guido Murnig’s third-down sack of Tewhill on the ensuing drive forced a punt that was blocked when Pardini drove a Wildcat blocker back into the punter. The Braves took over and Reinell promptly found Meyer for a 10-yard TD strike.

The Wildcats boldly put the lead on the line going for it on fourth down, needing just inches, seconds after that score. Dumont got hit by Guido Murnig and didn’t appear to make any forward progress, but the ’Cats were given a favorable spot and the first down. Murnig made another key stop on third down before Kevin Haugen intercepted a pass to set the Braves up for one final gasp.

The defense is fine.

“We haven’t seen a better defensive effort than what Justin gave,” San Marin’s coach, Kevin Gowyer said a week after losing to Marin Catholic.

Linebacker Greg Haugen and defensive lineman Guido Murnig have been playmakers.

A group of boys - Quin Stanier, Daniel Pardini, Guido Murnig, Kyle Kray, Merik Mulcahy and Justin Clayton - currently living in Sonoma, or who grew up in the Valley, were big contributers for Justin-Siena High School of Napa's varsity football team, which upset previously unbeaten and top-ranked Ferndale 22-15 in a North Coast Section Division IV semifinal playoff game in Ferndale Saturday afternoon. Justin-Siena will play Salesian for the NCS title this Friday night, Dec. 5, starting at 7 p.m. at Alhambra High School in Martinez.

“We were a little scared at first when they started moving the ball passing,” admitted Justin linebacker Kevin Haugen. “But, we made the adjustments. Guido Murnig did a great job at defensive end stopping the run and opening up lanes for me to get after the quarterback. The defense was rock solid.”

He seems like a good student as he was on the "B" honor roll 3.0-3.49 as a Junior.

There appears to be a memorial scholarship to the private HS (Marin Catholic) that his family setup for an older brother of his that passed away in a car accident:

Since 2001, all these graduates have shared in the Ryan G. Murnig Scholarship fund, each receiving at least $5,000.00, awarded to a junior class member as a contribution to their senior year tuition. When Ryan Murnig '97 gave up his life on December 23, 1997 in an automobile accident, Debbie Monardo Murnig, alumnae '74, her husband Guido, Kyle '00, Lacey '03 and Guiducci '09 Justin-Sienna, decided that a scholarship in honor of their son and brother was a worthwhile cause.

Can't find much about Joe Fleming.

Photo #3 on this page:

http://photos.dailycamera.com/Sports/CU-Football-Practice-March-30/11677659_gDCw6#823907990_6uuZz

shows him catching a pass.

There was a Joe Louis Fleming from the HS class of 2008 from Huntsville, AL.

http://profiles.berecruited.com/athletes/128847

His HS bio says he played Punter, Linebacker, Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver

Have no way of knowing if this is the kid or not, but couldn't find any other good matches.

OK, so none of that info was accurate on Joe.

Joe Fleming, TE 6'3 240 lbs, Junior. Is from Greenwood Village, CO and attended Araphoe HS. He was named to 2006 Class 5A Continental League First Team by the Denver Post as a Tight End. After high school he attended Front Range Community College.

Yay! We have someone from my alma mater on the football team again!

Which is that? Arapahoe HS or Front Range CC?

If Arapahoe, then there is another walk-on: QB Matt Johnson is also from there.

I wonder how I missed that.

I don't know about the rest of you allbuffers but I get a kick out of seeing kids from either of my alma maters (HS or college) go on to play at the next level in any sport. Even if they aren't world beaters, it's cool to see them out there representing. I was a really happy camper when there was someone from Arapahoe on all 3 "revenue" teams here at CU. It made some rough seasons a little easier when you had a specific person to root for. Even if we lost, I could take some comfort from the fact that at least so and so had a good day. Anyone else feel this way?

Oh yeah most definitely it adds some "pride" to being a fan. I don't get too many chances for that happen as I graduated from Glenwood Springs HS, but we did have a punter from 2005-08 that came from there: Tom Suazo. There has been a few other GSHS alums that have played other sports at CU, none that I went to school with but a few I knew their older siblings.

You had a really good kicker punter at Glenwood for the last couple years: Clay Hawkins. He was at CU's kicking camp in summer 2009, but don't think he has CU in his sights.
And for a local connection, did you know Mason Crosby married a girl from your hometown? truth.

Here's the list:

WR #40 Alex Turbow, 6'1" 205 lbs, freshman
TE #41 Matt Allen, 6'2" 220 lbs, freshman
TE #40 Joe Fleming, 6'3" 240 lbs, junior

Also, we have two new walk-on kickers, but I don't have their names. Slipping, I guess.

You can see them in this video from Monday's practice, numbers 29 and 14 (I guess this means they didn't retire Matt DiLallo's jersey yet.)

VIDEO AT THIS LINK:

Neither Riddle nor Hawkins sound too psyched about the kicking game.
But they just need to work to the little things. You know, like, um, getting it through the uprights.

QB #13 - Matt Johnson. 6'4 200 lbs. Sophomore. Centennial, CO (Arapahoe HS).

Attended the 2007 Boulder NIKE Training Camp (6/2/07) measured 6'4 162 lbs.

Named to both Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News 5A Continental League Second Team Offense at QB.

Went 4-6 in his senior season with the Arapahoe Warriors, losing in first round of playoffs to Arvada West 14-19.

No indication where he went for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

There are some highlights of Matt Johnson in this video of Douglas County vs Arapahoe (about 1 minute in and then again about 3 minutes in).

Nice find on Matt Johnson, Scotty.

Rep to you, sir.

@ AJ - I didn't think the new kickers were supposed to join us until the Fall. I guess I'll see on Saturday.

Played on same Legacy defense as curent Buff Nick Kasa.

2006-07 was named Honorable Mention to 5A Front Range League
45 tackles, 6 interceptions

2007-08 was named to First Team Defensive Backs for 5A Front Range League

Mesa State listed him at 5'6" 170 lbs in 2009. He redshirted in 2008, and I did not see any stats accumulated for him in 2009.

DE #99 Michael (Mike) O'Connor. 6'1 225 lbs, Sophomore. Englewood, CO (Englewood HS)/ Fort Lewis

Named to 2006 3A Metro North Second Team Offense as Offensive Lineman and honorable mention on defense

Went to Fort Lewis where he redshirted in 2007 and played limited time in 2008 recording 6 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 QB hurries in 7 games.

The two walkons have been suiting up the same as Kirkwood and Grossnickle and practicing in CU gear -- you can see them in the video. Neither seems to be a punter, but both practice kickoffs and some field goals. But I don't know that they'll participate in spring game.
Might just be those two (K&G) handling it all. Goodman still out for a while injured.
When Riddle says some new guys will join the team in the fall, he might mean more new guys.

I missed this post AJ. Not familiar with Clay, I'll check him out. Wasn't aware of Crosby marrying a Demon either, I'll try to find more out about her too.

From the Spring Game team rosters they list the two new kickers:

#14 Sean Minett, Fr. 6'0" 190 lbs - Eagle, CO (Vail Mountain)
