Do you consider this past Bball Season a success?

Considering the circumstances (possible departure of Bzzz), I thought it would be interesting to get everyone's opinion on this last season. It sure was fun at times, and also awful (why does mizzou blow us out in everything these days ).

We went 15 and 16, beat one damn good team (baylor) and nearly took out Kansas. That's not great. But "success" is all about expectations. Consider, for instance, the fact that when Hawk took over we would have scoffed at considering "success" in year 5 to be 8 wins. But that's where we are now. Bzz burned the bball program to the ground on purpose and is now reubilding it. So "success" may just well be a 15 and 16 season considering where he forced himself to start from.

Well, was the season a success despite the lack of even a .500 record? And if it was, is Bzz worth spending a large sum to keep?

It was a major improvement. It will be a success if they keep building on it. They've GOT to turn it into a couple productive big men. Otherwise, after next year we're likely to lose Higgins and Burks, have a team built around Sharpe, and maybe nothing more than an NIT bid (if that) to show for last season, as promising as it was at times...

i consider it a success because bzzzzz got the practice facility built end of story

did we beat KSU also? Or am I mistaken?

It was a success, but a similar performance next year (if Bz stays) would not be a success.

It was progress.

No season without a postseason can be called a success, but last season definitely put us on the right path and the cusp of success.

:yeahthat: This is really devastating if we lose Coach B..

I don't agree with that. As Ryan Thorburn concluded his article this morning:

"We`re right on course with the vision that we have for this program, knowing where we started to where we are now," Bzdelik told the Camera during a recent interview. "We started with seven wins and we`re up to 15. The attendance has gone up 40 percent. The APR was sub-900 and we`re looking at a plus-900 APR that`s going to be solid for years to come. We were 13-3 at home. The GPA went from barely a 2.0 to just a shade under 3.0 collectively.

"We put four players on the all-Big 12 academic team and had the freshman of the year. We have a two-time all-Big 12 player in Cory Higgins coming back. We have some very talented young players that are getting better. We won four out of our last six. We have worked hard to improve the facilities so the players can train efficiently. ...

"And we`ve done so without compromising the moral and academic integrity of this university."

Perhaps Bzdelik`s rebuilding job at CU is over.

*************

btw, Thorburn added a short update today: CU Buffs' Bzdelik to Wake Forest a 'Done Deal'

My opinion is that Bzdelik has laid a foundation and we can improve quickly from this point. Him leaving does nothing to alter my expectations for next season.
