Decided to move this over from the Newsroom.

"Former Buffaloes player Linda Lappe is expected to be named CU's seventh women's basketball coach at a 10:15 a.m. press conference on Monday."

Thoughts?

Budget.

Get a coach that hasn't even really won at the D-2 level? Her Metro State teams got progressively worse every year she was there. Any surprise that Ceal steered the search committee and recruited Linda?

Again, at least talk to a couple of candidates.

I'm hopeful that she can lead the program, but she hasn't done anything to date that indicates that she'll be able to match coaching with the other Big 12 women's bball coaches.

One other thought I had is that his is a classic nostalgia hire, sort of like the WBB equivalent of hiring Beinemy to be head Coach.

I don't understand why Ceal wouldn't want the absolute best hire for the program, but given her relationship with one of her most talented former players it may be hard for her to say no to this hire. This school is getting as incestuous with its hires as Okie State. Sometimes it's nice to court the outsider so nostalgia doesn't play into a tough decision.

They took the easy road on this one. What ever happened to the SDSU coach? Was that a non-starter? It seems like this is a "throw in the towel" kind of decision to me.

Beth Burns said she was happy in San Diego. She's really tied into the community, women's groups, etc. She left once, found out the grass wasn't greener, and went back. If she would have been interested in leaving, I believe we would have hired her.

Surprised this opening did not at least attract a few tier 1 candidates. You would have thought there would have been at least more than 1 interview. Seems the AD is really not functioning well at this point.

lappe is garbage i can attest to that... not that there is much recruiting in d-2 there is some but not much... but our team got progressively smaller and less talented each year she was at metro...

I'm not thrilled with the hire either, but can we refrain, for at least a year or two, from calling her garbage. Let's see what she can do.

shes had three years at metro... ive been at 90% of those games because they are usually played before the mens games... they have no sets.. they play like chickens with their heads cut off...at least with the last coach... they ran an offense

What you described is Beth Burns' style too. She said she doesn't worry about turnovers. Just wants her players to keep attacking. Must have something to do with the Ceal coaching tree.
