The CPL is an ugly, ugly machine. Think of all the handlers involved with Derrick Rose and Sherron Collins. That's what you get. If you don't play the game, you are likely out. If you do play it, you may end up on probation. Good for Rico for standing firm.

Good call on Sonny. His King HS teams of the late 80s and early 90s could have easily made deep NCAAT runs. Who says public high schools can't recruit??

If Sonny had been allowed to take a Chicago King All-Star team on to the NCAA tourney, then yes, he could have done some damage: Hamilton at center, Rashard Griffith and Marcus Liberty at forward, and Johnny Selvie and Jamie Brandon at guard. They might have done alright.

Hamilton and Griffith were both over 7'0'' and 300 lbs... monsters. Another of Sonny's stars was Leon Smith, who went straight from King to the NBA's 1st round in '99 or '00.

I'd forgotten about Leon. I'd replace Hamilton with him, even though Hamilton also played in the NBA. If Leon had been more mature, he would have had a good NBA career. He just wasn't anywhere close to ready mentally, and in those days teams let their young players sink or swim. Thomas Hamilton Jr. may be a different story than the old man - he's now a 6'9" thirteen year old, getting early looks from the Illini, among many others:

Good pull. Yes I'm very familiar with TH Jr... he's been on recruiting radars for awhile and he's only 13. I'm glad to hear that he wants to get away from the public league "mess"... if only the rest of these jamochs would get that too.

As an Illini alum, my only fear is that he wants to distance himself from his dad... and dad signed with UI.
