Baylor lobbyist and regent Buddy Jones email to Baylor alumni and supporters

Baylor is making a push to stay with fellow Big 12 South members Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in whatever conference they wind up, reports on Sunday indicated.
Those five schools and Colorado reportedly were being pursued by the Pac-10 Conference, leaving Baylor separated from its close rivals and with an uncertain athletic future.

But Baylor apparently has responded with a strong lobbying effort to supplant Colorado in the process.
Prominent Austin lobbyist and Baylor regent Buddy Jones in e-mails to Baylor alumni and supporters in the Texas Legislature that were obtained by The Dallas Morning News, addressed the Colorado-or-Baylor situation.

"My guess is that Colorado hasn't taken enough broadside hits to sink their boat yet and they may well be on the invite list," Jones wrote. "I hope I'm wrong. But there's still time left to change the scoreboard. We aren't through

Baylor just doesn't have the stroke this time around. This is desperation deluxe.

Also, if the state of Texas was going to get involved, they would push for another state school to go along. Baylor is just using what little leverage they have. This is a strange turn of events, but I'm not worried.

Buddy Jones runs a PR firm and is a political tool.

His daddy was a regent at Baylor, and the apple didn't fall far from the nepotism...err...tree.

In pursuing your own goals, is it ethical to screw another school in the process?

I would feel odd if CU was on the outside trying to take someone out...

I disagree. As you may have heard, the Texas governor is now involved in this process, and taking Baylor is a must. He is also placing a number of other demands upon the Pac 10. I think the Pac 10 may second guess this entire invite now that they are getting a taste of what it is like to have Texas in your conference.

The internet is pretty useful, right up to the point you search for an image of Jabba the Hut in a cowboy hat. Then it lets you down big time.

The problem is the helplessness you feel when politicians start to get involved

I believe the Pac 10 would REALLY want a growing Denver market in their membership. Also, CU has a strong presence in California and Arizona. You guys are way more in tune to all of this stuff than I am. It is all conjecture to me. But if dominos begin to fall, and, say, the Pac 10 invites CU along with the rest they are talking about, do you really think UT, aTm, and TT would go a different route just because Baylor wasn't invited? I just don't think they have the chips on the table to make that bluff.

I agree with you except for one thing.... it looks like the ONLY thing the Pac10 cares about is getting Texas, and they are blinded to everything else. If that is your ONLY goal, then is it really a big deal to swap Baylor for CU? No, and CU gets ****ed

Your assuming that texass would tell the Pac 10 no unless Baylor is included. If 'braska and mizzou split, then the Big XII will either begin to crumble and the rats and CU will jump ship or agree to stay and invite other schools to fill the void.

I e-mailed a bunch of the quotes from Baylor to Plati and Bohn asking what they we're going to do to refute it... I got a response from Bohn saying:

Thanks for sharing this. MB

Not exactly what I was hoping for, not sure how much they'd say in response anyway.

For what its worth I sent a similar email encouraging them to be proactive on this, sent it to the regents and DiStefano/Benson as well, so I'm sure they are well aware that people would like a response to Baylor's attacks.

SNAAAAAAKeS!

Mother****ing snakes on the mother****ing plains!!!!

I think that's the point. Unless they know who they're dealing with, I don't think Plati or Bohn are going to be sending out a lot of "we're going to kick those Baylor assholes in the nuts and send them back to Waco with their dicks stuffed up their own asses!!!!" type responses to unsolicited e-mails. But I have no doubt they are working this thing behind the scenes, especially the torpedo fire coming from Capt. Buddy and the Baylor Gang....

But y'know, even a press release saying, "We're busy fighting this and doing the things we need to do to place CU in a top tier position, academically, financially and athleticly. We'll field any and all questions after we've secured our position." would be GREATLY reassuring.

The silence is deafening. And frightening.

I'd prefer if Bohn didn't send any response to emails this week - I want him to be so completely wrapped up in protecting CU's interest in this reshuffle that he has no time to be emailing fans whatsoever.

A great quote wasted in the context of Cal. Save that for the CU to Big 10 thread, and it'll have some traction.

Ooops, I thought this was the thread where we were talking about the Texass snakes, not the Cal snakes... :sorry:

Baylor has/had a killer Basketball team...

Pretty sure Baylor is close to dead last in all-time conference record in B-Ball, they're definitely behind CU who is seventh.

Crap...I'm an idiot...I just got that, lol
