Cody on All Spring Team?

The Sporting News has actually put together a 2010 All Spring team. Don't ask me how you compile an All Spring team, since it is based only on practice?

If it's based only on practice, then Cody should be an All-American.

Honestly, I'm not joking. And don't take this as me being negative on Cody since it usually hasn't translated in games. But the guy is possibly the most accurate passer in the country when he doesn't have live bullets flying, I doubt that very many QBs can match his command of the offense, and I have heard he's a coach's dream as far as the effort he puts in and leadership he demonstrates in meetings/drills.

I honestly see why the coaches thought his skill set could translate well in the 2-minute drill last season and gave it a try. And against soft coverages and a basic pass rush, he was great moving the ball between the 20s. In the red zone when things tightened up and the defense also brought some heat, not so much.

you are 100% correct. He won a QB accuracy contest and beat out some great QB's to do it. I'll see if I can dig up a link. To bad he can't wear a red jersey during games.

Hell the NFL is almost there. Maybe Cody is just ahead of his time.

Cody Hawkins, on site as an instructor, won an accuracy competition Tuesday at the ESPN RISE Magazine Elite 11 Quarterback Camp against competition ranging from the NFL to the nation’s best prep players here on the campus of Soka University just south of Anaheim, Calif.
The camp, geared toward quarterbacks who will be entering their senior season in high school, features former alumni of the camp who come back and be instructors. Hawkins first attended the camp in 2005 as a high school rising senior.

Hawkins, the other Elite 11 alumni coaches and 12 prep quarterbacks in attendance all participated in an accuracy competition on Tuesday. Hawkins won the competition against the likes of Mark Sanchez (New York Jets/USC), Chase Daniel (Washington Redskins/Missouri), Colt McCoy (Texas), Zac Robinson (Oklahoma State), Juice Williams (Illinois) and Daryll Clark (Penn State).

“I didn’t win the golden jersey – that only goes to the top high school quarterback,” Hawkins explained. “But I did win the overall competition.”

The competition included two five-minute halves with a circuit of drills that included all the quarterbacks running station to station and throwing passes at a target.

“I always have a lot of confidence,” Hawkins said. “But it feels good to be out here with so many great quarterbacks, have a chance to hang out and compete against them.”

Hawkins will return to Boulder later in the week to prepare for the 2009 season. Fall camp begins August 6 and the Buffs open the 2009 season Sunday, Sept. 6, hosting Colorado State at 5 p.m. on Folsom Field. The game will be televised nationally by FSN.
