Take "biggest" however you want it:

"most hotly contested"
"most important to team success"
"most interesting"

Something else?

with a sane coaching staff, the QB position would not be a battle this year.

and that is why it is so fun being a Buff fan. I'm surprised that Hawk doesn't have his son in the mix for the LT spot as well, I heard he thought he was neck and neck with Solder.

Since I am not convinced there is a true battle at QB (meaning I fear the DH and son connection), I went with Kasa and West. We really need at least one of those guys to step up and provide consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks (or at least command a double team). Don't care who wins the competition, just want to see results on the field.

LG.
QB is not a battle. Hawkins has said there's a competition every year. Hansen is our QB.
Many of the other positions will see a lot of players in there. Like DL & LB positions. We play a lot of different sets depending on the situation, so Bonsu and Cunningham will both see a lot of time, and sometimes even together.
C - Stevens played well and Iltis may end up at LG. It's important, but not the most important battle.

Left Guard - man we need someone to firm this one up and help solidify the line.

Punter - I hope we have a clear and decisive winner here. Seems like Grossman is competing against no one though.

Kicker.

If there is a battle at QB and if we can't find a left guard and solidify the line we'll need to kick 5-6 50- to 60-yard field goals a game to have any chance...

Kasa-West is a win-win. I'm a fan of Forrest and want to see him succeed. He stood out as a true frosh last year. I like Kasa, too.

The big ??? for me is the return man for punts and kickoffs. That position might cycle through ten players before the year is over. Lockridge, Espinoza, McKnight, Clemons, Celestine, and any number of the other RBs and WR's will be back there auditioning for the return role.

It would be nice if there were some heir apparent to Ben Kelly or Jeremy Bloom, or even J-Fly. I just have no idea if someone can step up and give the offense some good field position.

WR (who steps up after Simas's departure?)
LG (otherwise known last year as the gaping hole to the right of Solder)
RT (Givens? Tau? Harris?)
RB (who backs up speedy? Do the frosh get on the depth chart... we hope?)
LB (who starts where? I think there is still a lot of uncertainty here).
FB (who moves over from guard?)
K (please god not "money")

Yes because there is no battle. But you guys are convinced there is. So be it. Hansen is and will be the QB, barring injury. There is no battle.

hey I guess we are all just making stuff up and not listening to what comes out of the coaches mouth. stop putting your fingers in your ears while you run away screaming la-la-la-la.

Look we all know that Hansen is the better QB, but with coach sunshine, who knows who is going to start.

Picked the QB race, only because dad says cody and tyler are "real close" and to me that means that cody will somehow get the nod. I wish hansen would be named starter tomorrow and I could concern myself with the other important races like O line and WR.

And so it will be.

What a relief! Thanks for clearing this up DBT! :smile2:

There are no battles, for battles require energy, fire, and emotional ups & downs. I imagine they'll draw straws to determine the depth chart.

There ALL big man. This team needs everyone to figure it out for them to have a winning season this year. But I voted for the kickers just because of the amount of points we have given up to our opponents over the last couple seasons. I forget the number but i think it was like a 30 pt difference from FG made by us and by opponent each of the last two years. Thats a full game of scoring.

That HAS to greatly improve this season
