Met another ex-Buff this weekend

I was at an FCA Coaches timeout this weekend outside of Orlando and I got talking to a guy that was taller than me. I figured he was a basketball coach, because this was not a football only event. Turned out he is Steve Young, ex-CU offensive tackle from the early to mid 1970s. He was a true 6'8 (whereas I'm only 6'8 in the programs and media guides.) He played for the TB Bucs for several years, has a bunch of kids and works for FCA in Tampa. As we talked I remembered seeing his picture in the old teamhouse, because a. he was in a Bucs creamsicle uni, and 2. he had a famous name. Really small world.

Did that make you feel insecure?

Does he still follow the team? Is he still fired up for CU football?

It is so frightfully unusual that I have to look up to talk to someone it is a little disconcerting.:smile2: He hasn't been out for a game in a long time. I didn't want to get into the current state of the Buffs when there were so many more uplifiting topics at the Timeout.

Ha! You guys make me feel like a wimp at 6 feet and 205.:smile2:

Glad you met up with each other. I guess it's best to lay low on the current situation with Buff football. It will improve. I just don't know exactly when.

Donnie Deluzio is down in your area also.

HA, I went to East Arvada Jr high and Moore Middle school with Don Deluzio. He then went on to play for Pomona who went to the state championship in 84. I on the other hand moved to Jersey and my HS team went 2-8 my senior yr. Lame.

Oh Doug Kline also played on that Panther team (he went to UCLA i think)

Anyway, I didn't pay much attention during Deluzios time at CU but I heard he was pretty good.

I played with Don and Doug on the 84 team. Well, they actually played and I got in when they had sufficient enough lead.:smile2: Don was a great guy, Doug not so much. I went to East Arvada and Moore with you as well then.

Did you ever know a Bobby or Greg Hodapp?

Doesn't ring a bell, but I wasn't always sober or present.

Nice. I was at a sports bar in GJ a couple years ago, and a guy was loudly talking about what a great QB Bobby Hodapp was at one of the Arvada high schools. I lived next to Bobby in Arvada when I was really young, and he was my babysitter. Small world we live in. I heard from my mom that he just passed away and I was wondering how it happened.

Oh and sorry FlaBuff, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

It's always cool when you have an "it's a small world" type experience like that. I could tell a couple of crazy stories but not CU related and I don't want to hijack a second time. :gobuffs:

Looks like he went to Arvada High. 3 years ahead of me also.

And my world shatters just a little more...

So sad. How are we supposed to look fondly upon the past, when the Buffs were (supposedly) as big as buffaloes and went through the corn like it was their daily diet?

This leads me to more questions...
1. Did we really land on the moon?
2. Was Paul Bunyan really tall?
3. Does Nebraska really suck?

Someone help me out, I'm spiraling here.

1. Did we really land on the moon? yes--the secret emperor of NASA told me so.
2. Was Paul Bunyan really tall?--Not as tall as Derek West.
3. Does Nebraska really suck? Does the wind still blow hard to the east from Boulder? That ain't the Jet stream, slappy!

Someone help me out, I'm spiraling here.
