USC WR Travon Patterson is a Buff!

Woooooooot! A big B&G welcome to Mr. Patterson. Go Buffs!!

YEEESSSSS! Awesome news! Welcome Travon! Look forward to watching you blow past the B12 secondaries to catch the long ball!

The wacky world of wide receivers at CU.

Josh Smith leaves. Toney Clemons arrives. Simas leaves. Patterson transfers.

Position of weakness to position of strength to position of weakness to position of possibility - all in one off season. Who would have thought.

I'm thinking he is in the mix for the starting punt return job right away.

No, Hawk wants somebody who will catch the ball and fall forward for a 1.5yd average.

If he is highly talented though he can return kickoffs while Hawk doesn't play him on offense because of his "knee injury."

this guy any good though? Didn't seem to get much playing time at USC. Why should we be excited?

It is a valid question. $C has a ton of talent at WR. They have enough talent that guys can get lost in the mix who would start at other BCS level schools. I also get the impression that with the amount of talent they have, that playing time has come down to politics within the coaching staff. Play a guy who comes from a school that has a recruit we want in the future, etc.

Keep in mind that their are a few guys in the NFL who didn't get a lot of playing time at USC and that CU is not exactly loaded with athletic WRs. It is certainly worth a look for this year.

But like someone stated in the earlier thread about him, how many of our wr's now would see even see the field at USC? As much fun as it is to be down on the program and down on Hawk (which I am don't get me wrong) this is good news any way you look at it, best case scenario he comes in and tears it up right away, worst case he never fits in at CU and barely sees the field but at least he provides depth and competition. I welcome any help we may get with arms wide open.

This is huge. A 4.4 guy that can be our return guy and stretch the field. Hawk will probably tell him to switch positions to LG or something, but you can always hope for the best.

Woot!

We have our punt returner!!!

And he'll definitely be in the mix to be the 3rd WR starter. We just increased team speed a ton.

Outstanding! I predict that if, by some miracle, this staff gets it turned around this guy gets 5+ touches a game and breaks a couple of big ones.

Should be interesting to see how this dude compares USC and CU. Good to see him here. Presence can only help.

Presence can only help.

I can't see a negative here. Increases our depth at WR. Possibly starts at WR and probably starts at PR. Gives us a weapon that teams have to specifically account for due to his world class speed. Doesn't reduce our scholarship openings for the 2011 recruiting class since he's a senior. Probably helps recruiting since we need WRs in the next class and Patterson gives us a better chance of showing a dynamic offense while winning games.

Big WIN for the program.

Think he will actually play? I kind of doubt it. Hawkins has some kind of personal vendetta against fast receivers.

Why do you say that? Other than Simmons last year, Hawk has erred on the other side by playing fast guys before they were ready. Celestine made comments about how he and Josh Smith were thrown in as true freshmen because of their athletic ability, they both developed bad habits as a result of thinking this came easily, and neither ever bothered learning the playbook or developing like they should.

I get the criticism of the way Hawk uses his "position groups" since it looks disorganized at times, seems to disrupt the flow of the offense, and doesn't keep the top guys on the field 90%+ of the time. But I don't get the criticism that he refuses to play people.

A lot of times teams give young guys opportunities to play and then TEACH them what they are doing wrong. Says a lot to me about Kiseau as a WR coach. Everything under this regime is a method of saying one thing and having reality be another thing altogether. They always talk about doing things the right way but repeatedly evidence is giving they do very little the right way. How many times do I hear that someone does not know the playbook and can't be bothered to learn the playbook. I bet Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Bob Stoops and a ton of other coaches do not tolerate that in their players.

My criticism of Hawkins is has been a horrible coach and apparently and ineffective leader.

This is exciting news! Looking forward to seeing this kid, along with McKnight and Clemons dismantle a few defensive backfields this season.

The Hawk bashing is really getting old. We all know he's come up way short at this point. But he/his staff deserve some credit here (and for pulling Clemons last year). Although unlikely, if they win a bowl game this year and Hirschman ends up being as legit as he seems its a whole new world. If not, Hawk's gone. We hardly ever get good news and when we do, some people find a way to be negative about it.
