PAC 10 Pimping New Web Site

I'm curious to see what the new website will bring. For anyone who has seen the new Pac-10 logo, it will be there. This will come after Dan Beebe's State of the Big 12 address and I suspect that he will announce tomorrow that CU is in the Pac next year instead of '12.

Pac 10 media day in NYC, then moving to ESPN headquarters in Bristol, and ending with a media extravaganza at the Rose Bowl. I have to give Larry Scott credit for really trying to expand the brand.

Oh well. From Article:

Liquidated damages. The exit payment from Nebraska and Colorado to the league has been estimated at $35 million to $40 million. Five schools – Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri – had pledged their portion to Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M to ensure at least $20 million annually to those three schools from the league. UT and OU have said they don't intend to collect. But the issue is still not settled. Beebe hopes a special meeting or teleconference of athletic directors next month might bring clarity.

Can I assume "UT and OU have said they don't intend to collect" is strictly referring to them not collecting the portion of exit payments that would be paid to Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri?

I believe so, that's how the knuckleheads (read Chip Brown and his band of merry men) have been interpreting it.
What's interesting is if UT and OU are saying they aren't goin gto collect is that it blows the guaranteed $20 million per year to UT, OU, Aggy out of the water, I seem to remember that the charity by the little 5 was part of the calculation.

How many times does it have to be clairified that CU OWES NOTHING? There are NO EXIT FEES in the Big 12 BYLAWS. The only thing that is going to happen is that the Big 12 will withhold money from NU and CU that's all.

I completely understand that money will be withheld and it will be up to CU to get any of that money back if they can. However, withheld money does amount to an exit fee no matter what title you give it. We are a part of the conference for the "penalty" year(s), so we are entitled to our portion unless we leave (sounds like an exit penalty to me). Plus we presumably need that money for the athletic programs, so in the end we are going to owe somebody some amount to stay afloat.

However, before I was simply writing to see if anyone had read that quote and felt there was a chance less would be withheld than anticipated. Navybuff confirmed for me that this was no new information and that as far as we know the full "penalty" will be withheld.

What's the difference? The AD's budget assumed that income, now we won't have it. (Note: I'm still betting that CU gets out of the Big 12 by foregoing a 1/2 share for one season.)

Even Beebe has now said we are likely out after this year.

Love Beebe's BS. What a joke!

“We came out as strong as I've ever observed this league in terms of the collegiality and the interest and the understanding that everybody needs everybody else,” Beebe said. “I've never seen such cohesion with this group of institutions.

“...It's kind of like a family spat and then you come back stronger and more appreciative of each other.”

Sometimes I really wonder if Beebe isn't trying to position himself for the AD job at either UT or A&M when Dodds or Byrne retire. Dodds is 72 and Byrne I think is around 65.

Sweet! It's sounding much more likely the Buffs are in the PAC-12 next season. We will almost certainly know before the CSU game.

Don Beebe is hysterical. He reminds me of Baghdad Bob. Or the Wizard of Oz. "Ignore Tommy Tuberville in the corner of the room."

Tommy Tuberville will be the last Big 12 coach to speak at the podium before Beebe's State of the Big 12 presenation...anyone notice that?

Saw on ESPN that Tuberville thinks USC should have to give up their national title. I'm really starting to like this guy.

si had a video about pac-10 football with the new conference logo

also just a fantastic article about the pac10 rebranded their image

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_staples/07/26/pac-10/index.html?eref=sihp

That's a tremendous article. I'm extremely impressed with Larry Scott, and that article has me more pumped that ever about the Pac-12 (also glad to hear confirmation that it will be called the Pac-12).

The thought process that went into branding the conference was really interesting. I think it's a cool idea that they designed the logo so the color hues could be adjusted by each school to match their color scheme - very clever move.

I like the new website. Pretty nice looking helmet.
