Do you think we will get our baseball program back when we go PAC 10?

Great opportunity, any California university is going to have a good baseball program, not to mention Arizona State which has won 12 college world series titles, Arizona, and Oregon State. It's a great recruiting tool for football. Alot of football players like to play baseball, and if they are good enough end up high major league draft choices.
 
Sounds like no, mainly due to weather concerns. It's a shame, hell Michigan has a baseball team.
 
the team is prolly 5 years off according to everything plati has been saying and we also have a forum called OTHER CU SPORTS....just sayin
 
Weather is a non-issue. It's not about the weather. It's about money and facilities. CU is short on both right now. With more money, the next round of facilities upgrades will be for the football team. Better seating in the stadium, scoreboards, fieldhouse/indoor practice facility upgrades. All that takes time and money. I wouldn't bet on baseball coming back to CU for at least another 7-8 years. Having said that, I believe that baseball and softball will come back to CU at some point in the future.
 
Baseball will be back. Lets hope Aaron Cook doesn't pitch for them! :smile2:

JK. I think bringing baseball and an equivalent women's sport back is a top priority.

Not going to happen anytime soon. CU cut men's Tennis, is cutting the athletic budget this year (football revenues will be down), will take a $9million dollar revenue hit which they will have to borrow money to cover.

I don't see the $$$ being there to afford baseball.

John Elway was an All American baseball player at Stanford, and a first round draft pick of the New York Yankees. LSU always has a football player or two on their baseball team. It doesn't hurt either sport. Too bad CU won't have a team, the PAC 10 is always one of the better baseball conferences. As far as the money thing goes -correct me if I'm wrong but isn't football the only sport that produces a profit at CU. It's hard to believe basketball does. , I don't think it helps the football program by not having a baseball program. Then again, if you can only afford a freakin plastic bubble for an indoor practice facility - I agree - there's lots bigger problems. You are right, this thread should probably have gone under OTHER CU SPORTS, but you will lose some really good football recruits without a baseball program.

This was one of Mac's biggest gripes when he was here. He would lose 1-2 recruits a year that wanted to play both sports. We lost a local kid, a kicker, to FSU one year (92?) and the kid said specifically he would have come to CU if we had a baseball team.

And while you're right about the Pac having good baseball programs, so does the Big 12. OSU, OU, UT, A&M and Nebbish all have had very strong baseball programs in recent years.

Scott Bentley 90 (Overland High I believe) and was on the cover of SI prior to his collegiate career.

No, this kid was good. I can't quite remember his name, though. Started with a "B". Benson? Bentley? Something like that. Anyway, he was the kid that Bobby Bowden really went after hard because of all the kicking issues he had. It worked. The kid did very well there.

Edit: it would help if I kept reading through the posts before I reply. Yeah, Scott Bentley. He was good.

Well, the revenue hit is temporary, and could end up being less than $9 million. In the long-term the AD should have a fair amount more money with the move to the 12-Pac. You're right the the $$$ aren't going to be there now. But eventually there's a pretty decent chance we'd be able to afford it.
 
Where did the CU baseball teams play their home games at?

Edit: I googled it, Prentup Field. East Campus, where the soccer field is now.

When I was a young boy, my grandfather used to take me to CU baseball games. I remember once there was a foul ball hit. It was hit over the first base dugout. I was sitting along the third base line. I ran over and picked up the foul ball.

Yeah, they didn't draw very well. :lol:
