Buffs Won't Go To Denver Wearing Generic Helmets

News Junkie
Fall camp continues with the Colorado Buffaloes sporting generic gold helmets. But coach Dan Hawkins said Tuesday that by the end of camp, deserving players will be wearing helmets featuring traditional CU logos.

really... they WILL be wear their branded helmets... im stunned... absolutely flabbergasted ...

Silly me. I thought football was a team sport; as in, everyone suffers together or everyone celebrates together. I guess our team has figured out how to make it an individual sport, like tennis or golf.

The article stated that the whole team will have logo's on their helmets for the CSWho game:

However, Hawkins also said that the entire squad's helmets will feature the Buffs logo for the Sept. 4 opener against Colorado State in Denver's Invesco Field.

one year in the Big 8, Iowa State wore both yellow and red helmets at the same time....on the field. seniors and "earners" wore the red. others yellow. some ugly stuff. in addition to the horrible 80's ISU logo (without the bird).

I have no recollection of that. Wild. I didn't know they could do that.

I seem to recall this game, but didn't know the different helmets were for seniors and/or "earners". I just figured they ran short of red helmets and broke out some old yellow ones (or vice versa).

With receiver being a position that underwent a considerable upgrade this month, keep an eye on Kyle Cefalo, a 2009 transfer (Oregon State, Wenatchee CC) who continues to show well in camp. Hawkins called him "crafty, quick-footed and a lot faster than people think . . . a smart guy and a baller. He's a guy who can turn a four-yard hitch into an eight-yard play.

You have to be kidding me.

There was a team in my HS days that did that. Their superstars got gold helmets, while everybody else got maroon. It was weird.

BTW, did ANYBODY really believe DH would do something like keep the logos off the helmets?

I found the Cefalo, four yard hitch reference very comforting....

as per ISU:

helmet project has a note about it....you have to scroll down to ISU.

i was a really young kid and i remember it vividly....because your "kid's sense" told you: that is really dumb.

"*3 During at least 1983 and 1984, and possibly in 1985 and 1986 also, at least some players wore an "inverted" version of this helmet (red shell, yellow logo, one yellow stripe, with red facemask). Most sources indicate that the red helmets were "awarded" to certain players for good performances, and I believe this is probably accurate, though I have not seen many photographs showing both helmet colors in use at the same time (I have seen some). As a helmet design used by less than half of the team, this design does not meet the current criteria for graphic representation at this web site (my concern being that there may be hundreds of such single-player or a few-players designs, particularly from the 1960s). I think the coaches are looking at Cefalo as a guy who can do what Scotty has done for us. Practice reports on him have been glowing and he's backed it up in both scrimmages. I actually think K-Cef is going to be a nice player for us.

No one's going to get excited about 8 yard gains, but that chit moves the chains.

I guess that's better than a 12 yard loss ..... :wave2:

I wasn't trying to bag on Cefalo. I remember he looked really good in the spring game. I just found the quote kinda funny.

If he's talking about 4 yard hitches, then it means we're seeing Cody this year. Everybody panic.

I figured. I thought it was funny, too. It's just not the right thing to say to fans.

It reads as: "Get your popcorn out 'cause we've got guys that can explode for 8 yard plays this year!".

I just wanted to get serious for a sec and say that I understood where Hawk was coming from on this one.

FIFY for how it will go down during the season.

Yeah that's how I took it as well, Hawk just talking about 4 yard hitches.. it's like he tries to **** with us. I'll take 8 yard gains all day, except of course on the aforementioned 3rd and 10s. You would just think that Hawk could say something like, "Cefalo is really quick and can take a short pass and turn it into something more."

So, we're not going to Denver with the generic helmets. Can we go to Denver without the generic head coach?

Doh. I can't remember! Was it basketball where they did that? Ugh...I need names!

You were right. I wasn't quite sure whether you had heard that the football jerseys won't have names any more and were making a joke... or if you didn't know and were about to have a meltdown when someone broke it to you. :smile2:

P.S. Basketball didn't have names on jerseys last season. I wish they'd put them back on.
