Tailgating Spots

I'm a Georgia fan making the trip for the big game on Oct 2. I'm trying to figure out my tailgating planes for Saturday and was wondering if yall can help point me in the right direction. Just need enough from for 10 people and their beers, don't plan on brining a grill or tv. After reading about CU being #24 in tailgating in the country I'm excited to see what it's all about!

Thanks!

Guess I'll defer to the aviators on the board...

I always see these planes tailgating and I wonder why. The sky has plenty of room. No need to be on the other plane's ass.

Just messin goDawgs. I'm usually rushing to campus for the games so i can't tailgate much. But pretty much anywhere on campus has great spots to tailgate.

A lot of the opposing fans like to do the Millenium Harvest House for their tailgating. It backs to Boulder Creek and is a relatively short walk to the stadium.

CU doesn't have one big tailgate lot on campus, so things are a bit spread out. Last year we had a map on this site of where all the Allbuffs tailgates were located.

Prior to home games, there is a "Pearl Street Stampede" in downtown Boulder with the marching band at 7pm the night prior to the game. Pep rally at the end of it. You'll probably want to catch that and get dinner downtown. I'd make dinner reservations now.

There's also a new tradition called the "Buffalo Roundup". About 2 1/2 hours before kickoff, they'll ring the Alumni Bell and that will signal everyone to get together at the Dwayne Physics Building near Folsom Field. Marching Band and spirit squads (Chip, cheerleaders, etc.) lead the team into the stadium while the fans form a human tunnel.

The second time you hear the Alumni Bell ring is the signal that Ralphie will be charging the field in 10 minutes.

CU's tailgating is spread out all over campus in small lots here and there. Your best bet might be to get a spot by the practice fields off of Folsom. I think you can pay for parking there. It's a nice, shady spot, and just down the hill from the stadium.

Here's a map of campus.

Franklin field directly to the right of the stadium is the Gold lot. This area is worth strolling through during pre-game. It's got a great tailgate vibe. But It would take one helluva well connected administrative assistant to get in there. Reserved for donors and season ticket holders.

The business field or observatory field would be my recommendation. If you set up 4 hours beforehand, you'll be fine. So far as I know, the fields don't require permits. These spots have great views, are close to various paid lots open to the general public, and make for a nice stroll through campus.

The Millenium Harvest house is a hotel located off the map. It's under the box on the NW corner (on 36, a left turn a few hundred feet past Colorado.) There's RV parking in those lower lots. Keep in mind that it's a steep hike from the lots on the north (upper) side of Boulder Creek to the stadium. If you aren't used to altitude, there'll be some huffing and puffing on your hike up to the game.

Enjoy.

What about the lot at 28th and Colorado? is that permit only, or do they do day parking there as well? That might not be a bad spot, although I think the Harvest House and a walk up Boulder Creek would be the best bet.

GoDawgs, assuming you are staying in Boulder, make sure you ask at the front dest for advice on tailgate locations as well. we have always done this when we have traveled to away games and decided to tailgate on our own rather than do the alumni function. they have always pointed us in the right direction. i would think that boulder hotels would do the same.

enjoy your trip!

Thanks for all the suggestions. We ended up staying by the practice fields that sackman recommended. Great location. Congrats on the win. We had a great time. 99% of all Colorado fans we met were great to us. Good luck the rest of the season.
