First the positives

- Yet another AWESOME Sackygate! A lot of allbuffers representing. Good food and drinks and good conversations. After going so long without seeing some of the guys, I get reminded what a great bunch of guys we have on this forum.

-Domination. From the opening kickoff to the end, I never felt threatened by the rams. I dont remember the last time I felt this way in a CSU game. The buffs were in control the entire game!

-Defense. Looked good with crisp TACKLING! Major is gonna be a stud! Now, how much is it that our defense is that good, or that it had a lot to do with CSU's inexperienced offense? We still have a lot to see and get tested, but it was nice to see some good D out there!

-Good start to the season, 1-0 still undefeated! We have a much bigger test next week and that is when we will get a true idea of what this team is about.

Now the negatives

-PENALTIES!!!!! Ayeeeeeeeeeee!! I thought this **** was supposed to be cleaned up? 10 penalties will not cut it against the rest of the schedule. And what is with this too many men in the backfield penalty? Never heard of it before! One penatly that I liked was the personal foul on their kick returner, it's good to see that aggresivness. I think it was just timed just a little off. The returner didn't fair catch and a second later thats a blown up return man fumbling the ball.

-Pass rush. For CSU to have such an inexperienced line I thought we should have put Thomas in the turf more. I am very concerned about the pass rush.

-O-line. I thought this was our strength? I wasn't overly impressed. Still need a lot of work to do. It didn't seem to me like they were dominating. Hansen had to run for his life several times.

-Rushing. I thought Speedy should have been able to rush over 100 against that defense. Still would like to see better running game.

-Flat after halftime. It seemed like we could have really added on the points had we kept our intensity fromt he first half up. It almost seemed like they had the points they wanted and just preserved the win. Go for more! Especially against those ****ers!

And a thought about fans.
I think it's funny how CSU makes a big deal to have this game at Invesco and then they put that kind of fan support showing in their section. There were several sections completely empty on the east side! By the third qtr you could almost count the number of ram fans in the east stands.

As for overall atmosphere, it was one of the most mellow football games I have ever been to. I feel embarrased that this game will be at Invesco the next 10 years with that kind of atmosphere. This game belongs on campus! After the game it was hard to tell who won!

Now, lets get ready for the black out at Berkely! GO BUFFS!!

Yeah rams fan were really weak this year. The official attendance was 69000 but I call shenanigans on that.

You never get a true feel for the atmosphere watching on TV, but even so that was my impression too, that it was a very blase atmosphere. Holding a "rivalry" game at a neutral stadium with multiple empty sections doesn't say much for the "rivalry".

I like our run defense.

I like our pass defense, but... Pass rush is a work in progress. We didn't seem to blitz much, though.

The guys who impressed me most from our defense were West, Hartigan, Ahles, Major and Sipili. Jalil and Jimmy I expected. Good play from Polk and Perkins for the most part, too. Nice to see Beatty get a sack. Obi looks like the lightbulb may have gone on for him. Kasa and Herrod made some plays, too. Sandersfeld did a fine job at Nickel after Parker went down. Hopefully we get Bonsu back next week.

Offensive line was kicking ass when Iltis was in at LG instead of Adkins. Blitz pickup issues were when B-Lock was in instead of Speedy. Speedy's doing a nice job this year on pass pro.

Torres needs to be our #2 RB. He always falls forward, is a strong north-south runner, and I was extremely impressed with how patient he was today as a true frosh.

Patterson is a weapon as a punt returner. He also showed he can take a short crossing route or slant and take it to the house. Clemons seems to have similar ability. Plus, both guys have great feet and make a lot of tacklers miss.

Cefalo showed he wasn't just a spring game performer. He's got a knack for getting open and he catches everything thrown at him. He'll be a productive guy for us this year and soften the blow of losing Scotty next year. Speaking of Scotty, he looked quicker to me and seemed to gain a lot more separation than he did last year against CSU.

Sky is the limit with Richardson and Jefferson. We've got a couple nice young receivers there.

I expected more from the tight ends today. But CSU's got a couple very good linebackers in Brewer and Sissom, so if they were going to shut anything down it makes sense that our passing to the TEs would be it. Hopefully they step up against Cal.

Tyler's still a work in progress. Makes plays with his legs. Uses all his receivers and the whole field. If he can settle in and be more consistent with his accuracy, he could be really good. As is, he's an average QB who brings some intangible playmaking ability. We can win with him.

Goodman impressed me today. He's got a long way to go to make me a fan, but he showed the type of performance he should have been delivering the past couple seasons. Very talented kicker. Hopefully we can continue to build his confidence with red zone field goals and extra points before we have to call on him in a clutch situation.

Grossnickle is really inconsistent. But what a leg. Even his shanks were gong 35 yards and then bouncing. He's going to be special once he puts it all together.

In sum, I thought it was a solid 1st game performance. Did a great job forcing turnovers and taking care of the ball. We won the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. And we won the special teams battle. Need to get our offensive timing down, find a way to bring more pressure on defense, and clean up the penalties.

I think Scotty is going to have his best year yet. Now he won't have the other team #1 DB on him every play
