Rewatched the game twice, let's talk hansen....

This is not a thread bashing him, just pointing out a few things.

There were 4 deep passes that were open and there.

1. First quarter, he had clemons open but threw to short and inside and hagan was able to knock it out. 2-3 YDS farther and clemons has a 95 yd td.

2. He had richardson down the seam for a td but threw to the outside of him.

3. Has clemons on the sideline,once again,about 2-3 yds short,if he leads clemons it's either a long gain or TD.

4. He put it right on the money and patterson dropped it.

If hansen can lead a little more these plays are there and these wr's have the speed to burn secondary's.

OL has to give him more time but hansen could have been picked off 2 more times.

I'm hoping they see this on game film,don't know what our head coach does before,during and after the games though...
 
You know what. I can see why there was a QB battle again this year. Hansen isn't that much better than Cody.

Painful, but true. Hansen gets the job because of his mobility. I'm pulling for Hansen, but under this regime, it seems skill position players max out their potential in their 1st or 2nd seasons (read: Cody and Speedy)
 
Hansen is never going to make anyone forget about John Elway or Payton Manning, he is not a great QB. That said even with his problems and deficiencies he is still way better than Cody. Both can make bad, rushed decisions, both lack a feel for the pocket and tend to miss big plays that are open.

The difference is in two areas. One is that Cody is Cody, he hasn't gotten any better arguably since he was a sophmore and it is unlikely that if he were to be put back in we would see anything other than what we have seen in the past. Hansen on the other hand hasn't been given the opportunities to get better like Cody has. First he was a red-shirt then he was a starter, then a back-up, then a red-shirt, etc. etc. Up until now when he has played he has known that he was one percieved mistake from being yanked out in favor of Cody. Tyler may never get better but on the other hand he may, we know Cody isn't getting better.

The other is that Hansen has the physical tools to do things Cody can't do. Tyler has a stronger arm, better mobility, and better vision, those things aren't going to change.

Maybe Tyler doesn't get better. Quite frankly for me this season is already a dead issue. I am waiting for Hawks departure and the new coaching staff. Cody isn't going to be a part of that, lets give Hansen a chance to get better and give the new coach Hirschmann with four full years of eligibility left to work with.
 
Hansen had a bad game yesterday. No doubt about it. And an up and down performance against CSU. But with the offensive line "protection" he's gotten the first two games, I defy any quarterback to really look good. The longer he's getting blown up from the blind side and meeting defenders when he gets back in his drop, the more he's going to struggle, unfortunately. I would love to see what he could do with decent protection and a running game, not to mention a game plan that makes even a little bit of sense.
 
He was overwhelmed by the speed of the game. I also think the coaches tried to pound into him to stay in the pocket and not get happy feet. He did that to a fault in the first half. He needs to develope poise in the pocket. He was totally flustered yesterday. He looked better in the second half.

He looks a bit lost, just like the rest of the offense. I don't really blame him for being a bit flustered, but it just goes to show how disjointed the offense is under this staff. I still haven't figured out what we aim to do on a given play. It looks like a cluster****.

Eric Kieseau doesn't know, either. Seriously, he's been quoted as such. He doesn't have a "plan", he just wants to try stuff and see if it works. No, I'm not making this up, he really said this.

Yep, read that article in the BDC, how can you not have a plan?

This coaching staff has the most baffling quotes I've heard.....
 
I've been one of Tyler's biggest supporters and I'll admit I was hoping for more from him this season. That being said, the OL is still terrible and the WRs aren't helping him out with dropped balls. He also lacks a running game to take the pressure off of him. He needs to be better, but so does everyone around him.
 
It all starts with the OL. Tyler would look a lot better if the OL was playing better. Bigger holes for Speedy to run through = more time to throw the ball. Better pass protection = more time to throw the ball.

They need to be giving some other backs carries. I still don't understand why they are intent on running Speedy time and time again with no change of pace. Speedy already has 45 carries over two games and no other RB has more than 5 carries. WTF?
 
Hansen is not a very good QB, and likely should not be starting at a BCS school. I have a bigger problem with Stewart though. This guy is two yards and wimper. He is anything BUT speedy, as well. He jukes and jives, but never breaks away from the pack. Sure our passing game is not good, but that is exascerbated by the fact that the running game has been horrible for the last few years.

This is how D. Scott screwed us. First, he couldn't beat out Speedy. Then he quit on the team and transferred. In the process, he prevented us from recruiting a solid 4-year back to be here in his stead.
 
I personally find it really difficult to believe that Polk couldn't be better used at RB than at safety, with regards to the running back situation.

Torres looks promising but he runs standing straight up, that kind of worries me.

Agreed, but safety depth is weak, too, especially with Orms out for the season.
 
Tyler is the unfortunate result of not being able to recruit top QB talent because the other QB on the roster is the coach's son. He may be more "althetic" than Cody, but so is Nate Solder and I don't want him playing QB either.

Maybe this is unfair, but the kid is a Junior and I think he is what we've seen so far, no more, no less.

Well, to be fair, when Polk was a freshman we looked like we were going to be logjammed at RB. Too bad it didn't turn out that way
 
I kept noticing that Tyler was pretty awful at reading blitzes. There was one where I noticed the inside corner was clearly showing blitz, and there seemed like there was no reaction to it at all. Not a look, he didn't point it out to his backfield, nothing.
 
We have to take it easy on Tyler. The offensive line is well offensive. How can you stand in there and deliver the ball accurately when you know someone is about to tear your head off? Obviously TH is not the best quarterback in college football, but he could be pretty good if the coaching staff would teach our offensive lineman to block.
 
I tried to watch the game again last night. I made it about 3 minutes in until the first CU punt where Cal ran it back to the 20 and couldn't take anymore
 
Until they call plays that move Hansen out of the pocket he will fail to be an effective QB...no matter how well he is protected. Being a pocket Qb is not his game and never will be.
 
White, I haven't seen a lot of evidence of a GOOD single-zone-read option, let's say. I think they can claim to have tried it, but it still requires the Receiver to recognize what the QB does, and that the QB & Receiver understand 'holes in the zone' completely. For all the passes, I had the impression that the QB and Receiver didn't understand what the other Would or Could Do.

The WOULD DO comes from repetition and communication. The COULD DO means arm strength, throwing velocity, gaining separation (or lack of) from DBs, the ability to catch low, to catch high, etc.

I know there are NCAA restrictions on formal practice time, but it sure looks like very little toss-and-catch time is spent.

Also, with Tyler's ability to underthrow anyone any time, I'm always amazed at the large number (ie, "anything greater than zero") of across-the-field throws into the flats. Tyler's strength should be fed with only downfield, vertical passes, not to the opposite sideline. This has PIC-6 all over it, each and every time. (As long as we never play anyone with DB experience, this isn't a big deal.)
 
I'm hoping th Oline pulls it together, but the kid threw an interception left-handed...that's a freshman year, spring ball mistake that should never happen at this stage.
