Cabral ready for Top Job?

How do you know? The guy couldn't be any worse than what we have.

Standard reply: hell of a high bar you're setting there

I'd love to see how Cabral does as an interim HC. It would be a great opportunity for him.

Mickey Mouse wouldn't be any worse than what we have now. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I think it would be cool if Cabral was made iterim coach for the rest of the season. They bring back Mac.....then Mac brings in EB as the offensive coordinator, promotes Cabral to Defensive coordinator, Alfred Williams becomes the linebackers coach and Kordell Stewart becomes the Quarterback coach. Never would happen but if we went the nostalgia route why not go all out? What a coaching team that could be.

NO, No, no...why would this be a great coaching staff? I love these players, but players do not translate to amazing coaches - see Hagan. I agree with others that if Hawk gets fired midway through the season, yes Cabral should be given interim duties. I would love if the new HC retains Cabral (DC even), and Cabral should be given consideration for the top spot. However, I think Cabral needs to go elsewhere, and become the head coach he wants to be. Of course, if he wants stay LB coach at CU, great.

Back to my original point though. There is nothing to say that Kordell or Alfred would be great coaches - they haven't been coaching. Let's not go the nostalgia route and give unproven coaches jobs. If they want to start as interns, like Ambrose under Brown, fine. But our new staff needs some proven coaches - guys that you know will recruit and teach kids on/off the field. If you're looking for a combination of CU roots and coaching ability, then let's go Bienemy, Embree, Simmons, and isn't Matt Russell coaching somewhere? Moschetti is doing a great job in CA HS - and people have told me he still bleeds black and gold. If Woolfork continues to do well, then maybe look into giving him a position spot...personally though, I'd rather not just hire people for CU ties.

I always got the impression that Kordell was about as bright as a 2 Watt light bulb. The thought of him coaching makes me very nervous.

I've never heard anybody seriously consider Kordell for a coaching job. EB and Embree are different, though. Both have coached at the major college level and at the NFL level. They each would have access to some pretty good assistants, too.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't have an issue with either of them on the staff. Hell, they both were on the staff here before. Why the hell not?

If we bring back a former QB to coach, it would likely be Koy. Texas recruiting, lots of success at CU, long NFL career, household name (at least the last name), high-class individual, and a smart guy.

We can afford a rookie coach on the staff with that type of profile, especially if the rest of the staff is veteran.

Thanks smartass. glad you approve.....HC Cabral would at least pique my interest in CU football for the rest of the season. Too bad we would still likely be stuck with RC and KR though.

Not to state the obvious, but we already have a former QB on the staff.

You know what I mean. And this isn't about saving the season. Although booting Hawk would help, we'd still have some serious dead weight on this staff that hasn't coached well or recruited well. I don't know if there's a way to get rid of the whole lot of them in-season, but it would seem to be difficult. And this may be a major reason why we won't see an in-season termination of Hawkins.

I think Brian Cabral deserves some consideration. I also think EB would be a solid choice - the guy is a great recruiter and a great motivator - two qualities that you need in a HC. Cabral is a good recruiter and a good coach.

I am curious - someone suggested Kyle Shanahan the other day (who only has a job because of his Dad) and that is okay but suggest EB, BC or JE is met with ridicule. Seems to be a double standard.

My wish is that they do a solid search if the HC position opens up and hire the right guy. I am not one who is in favor of bringing Coach Mac back.

It is just that an in-season termination would at least give me hope that something good is happening and would end the torture that the Hawk-era has become. Brings up a good question though....Who are our current staff could best lead a BCS program and eek out a few more wins for us? Is Denver the only other coach on staff that has HC experience?

Cabral was an interim HC while GB was suspended for a few months. He ran the spring that year.

That's it, though.

CFB coaching is more about program building and recruiting than Xs and Os. Mack Brown at UT and at UNC built programs. Built. He does his OC and DC do the rest. He job is to find the right people. A lot of people here say that Mac was never the best gameday planner, but he freaking built a legacy at CU. We need that more than anything else. A head coach that develops a program will never have issues recruiting and budgeting.

For our purposes, Mac help get Dal Ward built. Him + Bohn at marketing = $$$$$. Not UT $$$, but good $$$.

^^^^ This.

He deserves a shot.
