Today's Slate: Kind of a Snoozer

i saw mention in other threads about ESPN-GOD hyping Bama-Hog and Boise-Beaver as "bigtime games" with ABer's being a bit skeptical....and, there's not much else is there? now that i look over the whole day's schedule.

too bad we are idle in a way. maybe go on the bike for a couple hours this afternoon after the 1:30 games. Notre Dame-Stanford of some interest to me.....like Harbaugh, respect what he's doing there, and hope they pound ND in S. Bend. However, in the long run, not sure i want Capt. Comeback in Ann Arbor....not a huge UM fan (despite CU's obvious debt there).

I don't mind the Boise hype, they are for real. They are the best coached team in the country (sigh) and they have major talent. It's kind if nice to someone different be the focus (and only for a week or two), rather than the usual teams getting all the coverage. Kudos to Boise for the 15-20K turnout at Gameday, that looked pretty sweet.

D. Robinson's injury is not severe.

i have no axe to grind about Boise.....i'm not totally in their corner either but all i mean is that Boise-OSU is hardly a titanic tilt on the order of some games the last couple weekends or those upcoming. it's a nice matchup with some BCS implications (possibly) but mostly the 2nd best game of the day on a less than stellar slate.

Sometimes these end up being the best football Saturdays because we get some upsets that no one expects.

Just noticed that MI State is playing UNC??? That's Northern Colorado - gimme a friggin break, what a bunch of gutless AD's in CFB.

hope so. either way, despite my OP i am enjoying a relaxing Saturday thus far. beautiful Colorado day out, windows open, fridge packed with the good stuff....etc.

1:30 games could have some interest. UT-UCLA, ND-Stan, Arkie-Bama....good channel surfing.

Great day in Colorado. Got out for a nice run this morning and it felt great. I am going to be watching Arky-Bama, ND-Stanford, and then Auburn-SC tonight. Some relaxing on the back porch will be mixed in there somewhere.

It got me thinking about scheduling. So many routs so far this year, another 70 point winner today. BORING! and unsporting to me.
I still respect the Buffs willingness to stick to a generally competitive OOC even with most of the major programs scheduling so many opponents that are completely overwhelmed not withstanding the rare shocker. I know it's not the thinking du jour but I still like it.

i like it, too. another school that schedules "rough" is USC. as much as i don't like them, they don't play D-1AA teams and they travel.....unlike Texas who almost never leaves the state of Texas to play OOC. my UCLA buddy says they always play tough schedules as well....though, offhand, it does seem that way but i'm too lazy to look it up.

i'm no longer impressed with calhoun. and going for it on fourth down on your own 30 yard line when you are down by a touchdown is ridiculously stupid. if they had failed to convert, that might have been the game

Yep, although I think Texas got a wakeup call in 2008. They have road trips to UCLA, Ole Miss, BYU, Cal, Notre Dame, USC, and Maryland in the next ten years. USC has been doing trips all over the place for a while now.

UCLA always plays a good schedule. 9 game conference schedule and usually 2 of its 3 non-conference games are against BCS competition.

Washington usually plays a solid slate too.

Actually, this makes me question even more then sense in that. Tennessee probably plays the toughest non-con in the SEC, they're down. UCLA and Washington, as mentioned. CU. Does a tough schedule have a benefit if you're not among the super elite and can expect to win them? I'm not so sure.

Alabama-Arkansas is clearly the game to watch at 3:30, maybe I'll check in on Stanford-ND from time to time. UCLA-UT shouldn't be close but I'm not getting that game anyway. Also looking forward to USC-Auburn tonight.

The Pac 10 teams are definitely like us with regards to scheduling tough games OOC. Washington has never even played a 1-AA/FCS team.

UCLA 13 UT 3 at the half. lotta turnovers for UT. interestingly, UT has the ball to close the half. get a PI call on the WR/DB's legs getting tangled which was accidental...and on the next play a personal foul call (really iffy) on a ball that Gilbert is clearly throwing away. 30 instant yards. clock runs about 5 seconds. looked like home cookin' to me. regardless, they don't get any points. Mack throws to the EZ as time expires.

****, i would have said the same thing if i were not busy hauling people around all morning. happens every year. the weekends with the big games turn into blowouts and the weekends that look boring as hell are full of upsets.

big whoop! :smile2:
