One thing that really bothered me from Saturday night, RE: AJ Green

Buffarino

Math - how does it work?

Why in the hell did they not tell Jimmy that he should shadow Green? I understand what their message was before the game, but after it became clear that Jalil wasn't going to be able to cover the guy in man coverage, why not make a change? I don't think Green made any big plays when Jimmy was covering him. Both TDs came off Jalil.

That guy damn near won the game for UGA.

Jimmy was busy with UGA's 6'5" WR and his name wasn't AJ Green. If you put Jali against that 6'5" WR, Jali is at a a height disadvantage that isn't there with Jimmy.

Green is 6'4" and is probably the best WR in the nation this year. That one inch does not matter one way or the other. Buffs should have put their best cover guy on Green, IMO. Make someone else beat you.

I thought the same thing. I guess college corners stick to their side. Jimmy was always the RCB, Jalil always the LCB. In the pros, the top corner would follow the top WR wherever he goes.

I believe if UGA didn't have a starting 6'5" WR besides Green, Jimmy would have coverend Green all night long.

Why do you believe there is such a huge difference between 6'4" and 6'5"? Why is height your determining factor here?

Height had nothing to do with it according to the coaches. They say it is because Jimmy plays one side and Jalil the other and they don't rotate.

I just think that's ludicrous. Do what the Buffs did at Tech a few years ago when they put Wheatley on Crabtree all day long.

Jimmy plays RCB. Jalil plays LCB.

Maybe scrapping our base defense and having Jimmy follow AJ everywhere (split right, slot, etc.) would have been a good adjustment. But I think that would be a pretty radical change and would have put other guys into techniques and responsibilities they don't normally play. It could have been the right move, but I don't believe it was the obvious move that so many people on the various CU boards are making it out to be.

All respect to Jimmy as well as Jalil (who I thought played Green okay), but that Green is something special. No one was going to stop him in man coverage. Although I tend to agree that I thought they might come out in the second half with Jimmy on him.

Does anyone want to acknowledge the fact that on his "FANTASTIC HIGHLIGHT REEL TOUCHDOWN" that he actually pushed off, causing Jimmy to fall?

It was offensive pass interference... (but great catch)

Pretty sure it was Jalil. And that never gets called. One of the best catches I've seen this year. I'm taking nothing away from him on that one.

It was totally offensive pass interference. The problem with that call is it's like in basketball, where certain players can get away with stuff and others can't. AJ Green gets away with it. That's all there is to the story. It was a blatant push off, and the official didn't call it.

Whatever. We won.

This....that guy was ridiculous...absolutely nothing you can do on that first touchdown, so no way/no how can you fault Jilil on that play either

All I know is the one play they went deep to Green on down the right side Jimmy broke up nicely. I'd have like to see the two go man to man.

That play had moreso to do with it being a bad pass....that ball hung up there allowing Jimmy to get back and break it up, as he was most definitely beaten...props to Jimmy for the closing speed to make that play, but if their QB doesn't float that one in there, probably another TD

Im not saying anyone is wrong here and I would have had Jimmy on him all night myself. You have a guy like Green tho, man he is gonna get his and that is all there is to it. I think Jalil is a safety but he is our second best corner so he has to be there at cb. Green is gonna make alot of corners look bad, he's the best receiver Ive seen in a bit.

I agree with all that and I'm not saying Jimmy would shut him down. Much like Crabtree vs. Wheatley, you just hope to limit the damage. You're never going to stop a guy like that. But I would have put my best cover guy on him to try and slow him down.

I think this is accurate. As I stated in another thread, Jalil had good coverage, IMO, on Green for all but the post pattern TD. "The" TD was offensive PI, IMO, but shows why Green is so good. He knows how to use his hands at exactly the right moment to make space for a catch even if the coverage is good. His long catch down the right sideline shows this exactly. Jalil was there step for step, but Green used his hands at the exact right second to create an inch that allowed him to make the catch. I think Jimmy was also in good coverage and the big difference was that the QB didn't make a great throw on the two big plays Jimmy broke up (the play in the center of the endzone where he caught back up and knocked the ball away, and the fade pattern into the left corner of the endzone that was not catchable). I do think Jimmy has better ball skills than Jalil, which helps him make the big play, but to say Jalil was getting beat all night is not correct if you ask me.

I think if you have two arguably NFL quality CBs, you have to trust them to play their side of the field no matter who lines up across. This is especially true if the rest of the defense is not as skilled as the CBs. So, I'm not upset with the decision not to have Jimmy follow Green all over the field. I do, however, question the decision to leave Green covered without safety help by either of our CBs. I think he commands a double team and it makes sense to roll the safety over to help out whichever side of the field he ultimately lines up on.

Hope McClure was watching and wants challenges like that, we need him at CU. The post play Jalil waited too long to open and run, by that time, it was too late. He acted like he was gonna have safety help over the top but I couldnt seen the alignment so I dont know. Might have been zero cov, either way he cant get too much of his space eaten up before he decides to turn. Think he had outside technique so more than likely a safety jumped something underneath. Cant be sure, have to see it again.
