Update on recruiting... on the way to get a burrito

"My name is Andrew, Luke is my nickname, and if this keeps up, I might decide to become an alcoholic lol jk."

I wouldn't expect recruiting to be too strong at this point. If Buff Fans still want Hawkins fired and that's still all we read, then I'd expect recruits to be staying away.

Hawkins is storing up the visits betting he will win some more games and be able to get some kids in here when we look like we are going bowling and his job is safe. That will "maybe" allow him to get some top players in here on visits. Maybe is better than "no chance" which is the lay of the land today I believe.

If he doesn't achieve that "turned the corner milestone", the new coach is going to be grateful to have all those visits still available.

Either way, I am all for holding those visits for a later home game. We got 4 more. We don't have too many schollies this year anyway.

There is no grand strategy, no matter how you try to spin it. They wanted this past weekend to be THE huge recruiting weekend of the season and simply could not get many kids to visit.

If we had more than 3-4 coaches on this staff pulling their weight in recruiting, things might be different. But again, we just have to accept it like all the other bull**** under Hawkins.

this thread would be much improved if it were properly named.

Update on recruiting...on the way to get a burrito

Recruiting is still awful.

If I were Hawk, (and by the way -- I'm not,) I might have been a little nervous about getting a lot of top recruits to a game that on paper we might not win, or even look that good. I'd save the official visits for some games where I was more confident.

I LOVED beating Georgia, but I never felt confident about it. Maybe that was part of the strategy. The coaching staff had to wonder how a blow-out would affect players, too.

What's weird is it says "joshua ford" but no other information. Good to see him listed, though, he wants his Mullen boys to join him, and there is no better person than a happy player to bring others into the fold.

Hawk and staff are waiting to bring in the blue-chip recruits for the iowa state game.....

When you have a coach that sells recruits with ' Hey, if this isn't for you, look around and good luck", I don't expect much.

So what you are saying is that we are going to get all our recruits to visit us--- when we play Kansas? That's on the road. I don't know how you can feel confident in a win anywhere but home-- and against a 1-3 team was about as good as it would get.

I don't know how far in advance the visits are normally scheduled, but a month ago, did anyone really think Georgia would come into this game 1-3?

No, but isn't it pretty sad that we have to schedule visits around when we think we are going to lose? **** that.

DS committed when we took that beating by Mizzou. If you can sell the program you can do it anytime, anywhere. Mac was able to recruit during his first few years when we sucked too.

The bigger issue in this is whether DH and staff are out recruiting hard. It is difficult to tell one way or the other. I guess it all hinges on whether, right now, DH thinks he will be back or not (by his own accord or Bohn's).

Just too many question marks to expect anything better than questionable recruiting.

Getting the top flight guys consistently you have to win. We can get solid enough players right now where we can get back to the point where we get some top flight players every now and again. I dont know if it wil be with Hawk at the helm but the Pac12 is gonna help out quite a bit I would think.

I think Hawk knows his days are numbered. He's on borrowed time, and he sees no need to expend any additional energy bringing in kids that will ultimately play for somebody else. Guys like Kiesau, Ambrose, Prince and Hagan are all still doing everything they can to keep their jobs or at least make an impression on somebody at another program. I think if Hawk goes, he's done coaching forever. This is the end of the line for him. He's not trying to get another coaching job. He's working on putting his finances in order.
