ESPN Bowl Game Projections

We're a LONG way from a bowl game. We've already met Dan's quota for wins in a season. Why do you think he'll seek any more?

WIth our remaining home schedule, Dan will have to try to not go to a bowl. Just need 3 more wins. However, just a mid tier bowl will not save his job. Need to get 8 or 9 wins to get that Holiday or Alamo.

Yea, it's very hard NOT to find 3 more wins on this schedule.

In relation to Syracuse, does anyone know what the rules are on counting wins against FCS teams? I know there was a rule in the past where you could only count one win against an FCS team like every 3 years, but then I thought they relaxed those requirements since there's so many bowls now. I'm asking because Syracuse already has 2 wins against FCS teams.

This is the Big-12 bowl tie-in in selection order. BCS is out. IMO Dan needs Cotton or Alamo to even be in the ball park for saving his job. And even then, I see a good bowl as a solid building block for the new coaching staff.

BCS - Tostitos Fiesta
AT&T Cotton (SEC)
Valero Alamo (Pac-10)
Insight (Big Ten)
Bridgepoint Holiday (Pac-10)
Texas (Big Ten)
New Era Pinstripe (Big East)
Dallas Football Classic/Eagle Bank (Big Ten/ACC)

Would love to make a better bowl game and get another crack at Cal...assuming we would decide to show up this time.

Remember when we started 3-1 in '08? We did find a 58-0 loss @ Mizzou that year. Ouch that was a painful offense to watch. I think the Bears were studying game tape from that season last week.

I'm pretty sure the Holiday would save his job. Probably the Insight, too. (I know the Insight is higher in the pecking order than the Holiday now, but the Holiday definitely still carries more prestige at this point...)

It is soooo too early to even be thinking about a bowl game. But since we are, I would say that the Holiday and Insight would carry the additional caveat that he actually win the game, not just get invited.

It used to be 1 win over a I-AA team every 4 years counted...a few years ago they changed it so that its now 1 win per year vs. I-AA counts towards bowl eligibility, but anything else doesn't...however, because there are so many bowls this year, it could play out where the NCAA will allow a 2nd win to count just to get enough bowl-eligible teams to fill the slots...

Thanks, that's about what I thought the deal was now but wasn't sure on the details. So Cuse will need to get to 7 wins.

WTF? I would much rather play in the Holiday bowl than the Insight. The Insight features the Big Ten's #7 or #8 team, which would be very underwhelming.

I started multi-quoting when Frank came along and said what I wanted to say. This post is basically just bumping it. We still haven't had an impressive win this year and we were blown out by 45 by an average team. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

If we go to a bowl game, then I think it does a good job of signaling to other coaches and recruits that this program may not be in such dire straits. Would hopefully give us a few more options when we drop Dan.

Good point. We just need to really make sure we get the right hire. I can't handle another 5 years like these past 5.

We just need to make sure we get in a bowl game, drop Dan, then make the right hire. I don't see any guarantee that DII Danny is gone.

He isn't recruting. Even if he wins 7 or 8 games he isn't recruting. That alone gives me enugh reasons to dump him.
