1990 Throwback Uniforms

I love them. It really reminds me of the 'good ol' days'. But the helmet color is still off and it looks mismatched. Even if they looked like the 2003 version they would match up so much better.

Not a big deal, but a little annoying for a uni-geek like myself.

Agree they don't match. The helmet seems too gold, while the pants aren't gold enough. They need to meet in the middle.

That picture of Bloom is pretty solid. Sometimes the all-whites are so simple that they look clean/sharp.

My only complaint this season...the throwbacks look SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than our current uniforms that I am pissed we aren't wearing throwback whites on the road. I hate our current uniforms...probably has a LOT to do with the lack of success they represent. I am also a bit superstitious...and we are 3-0 in throwbacks so why not give it a run on the road? Hell, after last year's win, I was hoping we might just decide to wear those for a few more games.

Really would like to see the throwback jerseys here permanently.

What do the players say about them?

I wish we could go back to them permanently. Are we forbidden by the Nike contract to do so?

Fify.

Love them!! Agree with the comment about the gold helmet needing to match but Damn overall they look awesome. CU wearing the throwbacks and running that option to speedy got me pumped "Glory Days". I REALLY hope that there is some way that they go back to these uniforms. They still look great today even with the equipment advances and changes i.e. smaller shoulder pads and tighter fitting jerseys. Those jerseys are like a fine wine in my opinion and only get better with age.

Wondering if AllBuffs could spear a campaign to get the Buffs to change back their uniforms permanently? The AD seems to be more accepting of fan input, I can't imagine that the cost would be prohibitive since we've already bought (or been given by Nike?) a whole bunch of them, would just need to get the roadies converted and spray paint the helmets that pale gold color. Probably too much to ask to get the 'Pigalo' unslanted, but the uniforms seem feasible to me.

leave the logo as is. change the uni's home and away and the helmet color and call it good! rtd

looked thru the decade of excellence book...new helmets and pants need to meet in the middle of the gold spectrum

Did anyone else notice that speedy had a buff decal on the front of his helmet? I thought the paint just chipped off the helmet but later I saw that it was the ralphie decal that was obviously put on wrong.

Saw this on another board looks like from a former member of the '90 team - Sounds like they might bring back these uniforms. I hope its true as long as they fix the helmet. -- Anybody else hear anything similar?

"4) Uniforms. To a man, these guys want this uniform to stick and from
what I hear it will. Names will be on the back next season and the
away jersey will be redone to match the home design with true "all
black" pants. My only complaint and I told anyone that would listen
including Bohn and dan Hwakins,...The Helmets are not the same gold
as they should be or used to be. The gold helemts we wore was a
lighter more brilliant shade of gold. Same gold as UCLA or Notre
Dame. This mew dulled down old gold sucks. It does not even match the
pants or the gold on the new unis. This needs to change asap."

Really? I saw that and thought it was chipped paint, too. Got a picture? Are you saying he had 3 decals on his helmet?

The paint chipped off, if there was a decal later in the game it was to cover the chip.

Looks like we will be keeping these uniforms! I emailed Bohn last night thanking him for the great job on the 1990 reunion and asked him if we could go back to these jersey's because they look great. I mentioned how many of the historical schools keep the same jersey i.e. USC, Bama, ND, Texas, Michigan, Ohio state and that it would be good to see CU go back to the old jerseys and develop an identity with them. This was what I got back--"Thank you for the kind note and feedback. I agree on the jerseys and plan to keep them"

I emailed Bohn on Monday saying almost the exact same thing. Responded the same way. So glad that we are hopefully getting rid of the current nike get up.

Nike has a big say in this and that's not going to change. They'll want to have something that's their unique design. They'll also want some variety so that there are extra merchandising opportunities. We'll probably get our throwback look, but there will be some compromise.

Uh, oh. I see the Gold jersey coming back...LOL

You are probably right Nik. Maybe we get to keep the traditional look but they will add something to the numbers (ala Alabama's special uni this season), or have some wacky alternative gray or gold jerseys and helmet combinations to make their mark. I can live with it if the style is generally the same.

I have to believe they have seen an increase in sales of jerseys this season - enough to make them think.

I think you bring up a good point but I don't know - SC and Penn State are both Nike schools and their designs are pretty much the same...same goes for Texas. Well, I hope they keep it just like they have it now provided the fix the gold helmet but hey as long as its close and they dont keep changing it I'm good! Baby steps..

Did Bohn say anything (or was he asked) about the road unis? Those need to go back to old school as well, with black pants only.

I didn't ask him in my email and he didn't say anything but from what one of the former players said on another board it looks like its a done deal as well--

Perhaps a compromise would be to go back to the Barnett unis. I like them just as much, if not more, than the Mac unis.

Who's call was it to switch to the funky look anyways? I think that started in '07 right? I was always under the impression that it was the head coach's call. Maybe Nike came calling with more $$ if CU was willing to experiment.

It's easy to rip Nike for constantly messing with the jerseys, but they provide the school with a sh**load of equipment that we don't want to do without, so Nike (or whoever we deal with in the future) will always have a big say in uni design.
