Kanavis on The Fan right now

So the unnamed Colorado player listed as asking for cash for his "dad" was Alfred.

As much as I want to believe our players, I find it hard to believe that of all the potential college athletes the agent could have made up some lie about, he'd choose Kanavis with this story.

Seems like a pretty safe choice to me if he was creating a story. An All American who had an abbreviated pro career due to injuries that very few people outside of Boulder would remember or question.

I agree. Hell maybe Kanavis did take the money but there are a lot of holes in this guys story. Plus SI wouldn't let him come onto the fan with Al but he did come on with Sandy. That's a little weird isn't it?

Let me put it this way. You have been presented with no evidence. You can choose to believe a scumbag agent the NFLPA actually suspended for misconduct. You can choose to believe a great Buff who has never been implicated in anything.

I choose to have Kanavis's back on this.

But what does he have to gain about creating a complete lie? And why lie about Kanavis but tell the truth about several of the other guys named in the story who confirmed his story?

It reminds me of the Jose Conseco/MLB/steroid controversy.

A couple things that I found strange. Kanavis said everything that was in the article was false, then said he hadnt read the article. Then Dmac said "Luch says he met you at your house" and KM says "That is absolutely false" then when prodded further he says he met Luch at his apartment, so he was saying it was false just based on a tiny detail like him saying house instead of apartment. Kinda strange.

And that's the tragedy in this entire thing. I don't think we'll ever know one way or the other, but the "agent" said that one of the reasons he wanted to do a tell-all story was so that the first thing that would show up on google when his daughters googled his name was this story, which apparantly showed them how hard he worked for them... or somthing. At any rate, what about Kanavis' kids? What do you think the first thing that will show up when they google his name? allegations of him breaking the rules.

This guy's an ***hole.

What does he have to gain? The guy lost his job as an agent when he was suspended for misconduct.

He has $$$ to gain, if he can parlay his article into a book deal.

I don't care if Kanavis conned this idot agent. Is that so bad?

No it's not. It is the agent's fault and he should be punished. End of story.

Furthermore, I am behind you Kanavis and if you say it didn't happen then it didn't. ***k this scumbag "agent".

But then why tell the truth about so many of the players, but make up a complete lie in regards to Kanavis? He has money to lose if he's making blatantly false, potentially damaging statements about others.

Kanavis isn't the only player saying he's lying or embellishing the story. Justin Keller did on the same show and Santonio Holmes said the same. Seems like 50/50 guys confirming vs denying.

Your support should be with a Buff when you have no evidence against him. It's as simple as that, imho.

How many MLB players originally said Conseco was lying? Or how many originally denied ever touching steroids?

I try to look at things logically and without bias. I can see why Kanavis would want to deny it. But I cannot see a logical reason for the agent to tell the truth about so many players, but for some reason make up some blatant lie about Kanavis.

If it is a lie, I fully expect Kanavis to sue the scumbag out of the agent. We shall see.

In situations like these, the truth often lies somewhere in the middle. The problem I have is an agent calling out college kids and the article inferring the players are the bad guys, when the friggin' agents are all over them, manipulating them, all in an effort to make some big bucks down the road.

Actually, I think it pokes some holes in his story. Al and Kanavis were living together at the time, according to Alfred. Do you really think this guy came all the way across the country to meet with Kanavis and didn't meet Al, too? Al was the much better prospect from an agent's perspective.

That seems a bit off to me.

No, that's not what he said. The article said the agent bum-rushed Kanavis outside his apartment. Kanavis said he was inside and let the agent and Kanavis' friend in.

They also had Dustin Keller on the show. He said the part about him 'paying his own way just to meet the super agent' was full of ****, too. He said he was on vacation in CA with his brother and met with a couple agents while he was out there.

The whole story sound like bull****, quite frankly.

I think this guy has watched to many episodes of entourage and thinks he is Ari.

No disrespect. But your reaction is exactly why these kinds of stories, ala "Lance Armstrong took PED's", just suck. They create doubt with no evidence. How can anyone defend a "he said, she said" allegation?

GuILTY!!! So, Kanavis, prove that you are innocent!!

The guy (or someone involved in the story anyway, I missed the beginning) was on with Al closer to 7 and what I glean is that it's true that Luchs met with Kanavis, but according to Al it was in the spring of 1991 which completely destroys the article's point. That is, even if he did pay Kanavis at that time, Kanavis was already done as an athlete at CU and therefore there would have been nothing illicit about the conduct. Moreover, the "other player" named in the article was Alfred, who talked with teh author last week about how he remembers the actual facts and then the author doesn't even use Al's name in the article or acknowledge that there is another side to the story. Instead, they state the facts (incorrectly in Al's view) and then attempt to validate the facts by stating at the end of the article that Kanavis said he would call back and then never did. Al's point was why did the author talk to him and even refer to him in the article if he didn't want to use his name or present Al's version of the facts.

Al was very fired up, and in my mind very convincing. He flat out said that maybe the story about Kanavis taking money is true, but the details of the story that give the piece all of its bite are not true.

Here's the logic: dude's life has gone to ****, he's bitter, and he's going to try to cash in while making some people pay for leading him on but signing with someone else.

Good point, but unfortunately, Canseco was right. PEDs is very prevalent in cycling. College players take money. I hate to say it, but I believe that the agents' story (just the bare facts, not the story of how those facts came to be...for instance how he met Kanavis and how money got exchanged) is true.

...who cares though in my opinion? I still love Kanavis. I still think he's a great player. I think many players take money, not just Bush and McGee. I also don't blame many of those players for taking money. I blame the slimy agents for offering money and takind advantage of kids' not knowing what to do with their soon-to-be fortune. Even though Canseco was right, he was still a sleezebag looking for the spotlight...same with this douchebag.

See Wispy's post on the subject then. Al claims that he remembers that the douche did talk to Kanavis. AFTER his footballl career was over. Isn't that every bit, or even more, as logical?
