An undefeated team's collective opponents...

are 16-24, and we want to put them in the top 5???? they may not even end up having a single win over a ranked team this season.

You know that nebraska isn't undefeated anymore, right LB?

The same stat for the other top 5 teams going in to yesterday....

17-21
13-24
16-24
21-27

What a useless statistic.

Yes, some teams have homefield advantage and a year-long rant about "payback" or something when they lose continually to one team. Their whole season is focused on it, and now their boards are full of wah-wah threads about "salvaging" the season. Well, they only wanted to play one game this season, and they got it at home. But it's a useless statistic, too. So's "scoreboard".

What a useless statistic.

When combined with the body of work of WHO they have played, it becomes rather significant. I could care less about previous weeks rankings. Apparently, they are not worth the paper one could use to wipe with, or they would be static.

Oregon has taken out currently ranked #12. Despite yesterday, that is no cakewalk. I think they have some tough games ahead.
Boise #23. Goodie for them. They can win a worthy game once this season, but not once a week. I also question the practice of slobbering over the defeat of one team at the end of the polls (who was also recently absent, and are back only due to other teams faltering).
TCU has taken out nobody. I like them, but before anyone breaks the top 5, they should have two ranked teams put away under their belt, IMHO, or one top ten.
Auburn has taken out #24, #19, and #21. Clearly they have to bring it, and they are allowed no rest. LSU has beaten #24 and #23. They each face off with each other when they are both in the top ten. That is attention grabbing.
Oklahoma has two ranked teams under their belt. They face two teams that are currently unbeaten and ranked.

So who is bringing it? It is easy to say "useless stat" blithely. But the fact is, that combined with hard proof that other schools have to work harder for a less prestigious ranking despite having accomplished more, it is clearly unreasonable to justify a few lightweights.

Want the ranking? I think teams should have to walk the walk, not talk the talk.

Rankings are pretty meaningless right now - for example, Boise St will be the BCS #1 tonight.

What I don't understand is the conventional wisdom of the people who vote for the rankings. For some reason, nearly all of them believe that their preseason rankings should have an impact on how they rank. Even after there is a body of work in real game action. Has TCU done more than LSU? Has TCU out-recruited LSU (or even been close to them) once in the last 5 classes? No and no. So we have a vastly more talented teams that has won against much better competition... but they are ranked lower and receiving no first place votes while TCU is getting one. It doesn't make any sense. (Same argument can be made for Auburn. Maybe even Oklahoma State and Missouri.)

I disagree with the second part of your statement. The computers are going to hamstring them. As of right now, they do not rank as high as Oregon. They have not beaten a team as highly ranked as Oregon. No way that they can jump them.

As I stated, their collective opponents record is currently 16-24. Compare that to Oklahoma (23-16), Auburn (25-20), and LSU (24-20). The fact that Oregon State rightly dropped out of the rankings is going to pain BSU, as it will if VT suffers one more loss.

And didn't I post this in the Pub? If I didn't I appologize. It really should be there, bc it has nothing to do with Colorado football, other than the fact that Colorado had the misfortune of pursuing BSU miserable ex-coach.

TCU doesn't have half the facilities/funding of LSU. its only loss in the past two seasons is boise. boise has only a handful of losses in the post-hawk and has avenged every single one of them. also has memorable wins. good action game -> good ratings which all the bcs really cares about. whats weird is everyone is banking on the ACC for national championship hopes. if it ACC ends up being FSU vs VT with the winner may give the nod to either Boise/OU as the second spot. also many teams wont sign up against boise and tcu for non conference games. i wonder how boise/tcu opponent record compares to ACC and Big east teams. its not about the secs/big 12/big 10s/pac10s. its really about the acc and big east getting automatic qualifiers when the mwc/wac may be just as talented as them

I would be very suprised at this point to see either fsu or vt in the mnc???? i also fail to understand the logic of an argument that goes like this: "because team x has half the funding of team y, team x should be promoted to a national championship game despite less wins against ranked teams and a losing collective opponent record."

boise is going to have to go the road of colorado in the 90s when we wanted to play top ranked competition: we got the home, they got the homes. 2 in exchange for 1. time to put up or shut up and stop making excuses about who won't play them. that sounds nebraska-esque.

what is mnc? say boise is undefeated but not ranked #1. if acc championship ends up vtech vs fsu the winner can determine the number 2 seed for bcs championship. a vtech win would make them a top 10 team again and boise can claim they beat acc champs and won the wac.

yes confusing. who created that logic and argument? my point of boise having half the recruiting advantages was response to

see boises record post-hawkins.

1. for all intents and purposes, the championship game.
2. gotcha - i would hate to think that "good action game" and a small budget a national contender make.
3. their record is not the issue. the fact that they will not step to the plate to do whatever it takes to play top teams IS the issue. it is easy to make excuses. it takes courage and confidence in your program to agree to a home for homes against a top ranked opponent.

sorry - forgot to add:

4. bless your heart, but there are a LOT of teams besides oklahoma that will have to drop in order to get a fsu/vt vs bsu/okie mnc matchup. first off, okie will NOT go if they drop a game. period. second, everyone between vt and fsu will also have to lose.

im talking about a potential matchup in the acc championship between vtech and fsu. the result could help boise st or oklahoma in their arugment for a shot at the bcs championship game. this has nothing to do with vt or fsu reaching the national championship game, only the acc championship game.

ahhhh. in that situation, i will comment that if both ou and bsu win out, and fsu meets vt in the acc championship game, it is possible that not even a vt win could vault bsu over okie - it depends on if each of those teams drops another game, if teams above them drop a game, etc. conference champions are not always given top ten rankings, and bsu needs something decisive. everyone has said the computer has already peaked boise state, as their soft schedule just gets worse and worse.

that is why i suggest that they alone are responsible to do what it takes to play top notch teams to avoid this happening year after year.
