5 years in and we still don't have a kicker?

Yeah, that seems to be the case. Wonder how different things would be if Goodman missed that GW kick against WVU.

The talent level is thin now but just imagine how thin it will be next year and the year after when you consider the recent and future recruiting classes... Yikes!

The one bright spot is that the new coach will be able to honestly sell immediate PT for a few years.

How easily the coaches can convince you that is true.

Alas, it is not.

There is simply some reason they prefer to play Mr. Goodman. Do not jump to the conclusion that it is because he is the best.
Open your mind to the many many possibilities for why they would choose to play someone other than him being the most talent, most consistent ... they have rationalized it, but it is not true.

Did Cody playing the last series in Missouri mean he was more talented than Tyler Hansen? Okay, case closed.

What are you talking about.....We have three kickers. Hell one of them is so good he nicknamed himself Money. We have a redshirt....er we have a freshman kicker, and some other guy that has never played football at any level.

According to Hawkins philosophy we are loaded at the kicker spot.

We have kickers people, that can get it done, this staff is screwed.... All I can say to CU is get F-----. Yall are ruining athletes!!walk away and leave cu alone

According to Hawkins philosophy we are loaded at the kicker spot.

We have five kickers on the roster.
Goodman - senior, has started for 3 years, was 1-4 going into Baylor game.
Grossnickle - RS freshman - arguably the most accurate stats of all 5 kickers in high school - he has (of course) been moved to punter
Castor - true freshman who was sacrificed with a single kick at Missouri
Kirkwood - big-legged junior soccer player who was recruited as PWO by Riddle and Hawkins after seeing tape, has not kicked in a game
Frieberg - true freshman with good HS stats who was recruited as PWO by Riddle out of high school, has not kicked in a game

Well, we've got to remember that this thing was burned to the ground when "Two-Point" Danny arrived, including the kicking situation. And he and the Riddler have been masterful at improving the kicking, here's the evidence:

-In 2005, we had Mason Crosby, who only converted 75% (21-28) of his FG's that year, with a shameful 5-7 from 50+ performance.
-In 2005, Torp had a 44.6 avg (only 8th in the nation), with a 39.0 net avg.

So you see, Crosby and Torp obviously were the arsonists who burned the kicking game to the ground.

-In 2006, DiLallo averaged 43.7 and 38.5 net
-In 2007, DiLallo averaged 40.1 and 35.8 net
-In 2008, DiLallo averaged 40.5 and 35.0 net
-In 2009, DiLallo averaged 38.6 and 32.7 net
-In 2010, we are averaging 38.5 (prior to the Baylor game), and 33.4 net

So we should all agree on the incredible improvement we see in the punting game under Hawk/Riddle. Just look at how obviously great they coached DiLallo, every year he improved leaps and bounds.

How about placekicking?

-2006: Crosby was 19-28 (2-9 50+). Notice the marked improvement in Crosby after Hawk & Riddle arrived???
-2007: Eberhart was 15-23 (2-2 50+)
-2008: Goodman was 5-14 (0-6 40+)
-2009: Goodman was 10-18 (2-7 40+, 1-3 50+).

Heck, based on our kicking game alone, Hawk & Riddle should receive extensions. Hey the numbers don't lie, do they???

I know who is on the roster. The point is, with us being at altitude we should have no problem landing the best kickers and punters in the nation every year we recruit one. Our kickers should win the Ray Guy award or whatever the award is for kickers each and every year.

This stat is incredible in the worst way possible -- WOW. I knew that DiLallo seemingly never improved, but a straight drop off every year is just ridiculous. There are many coaches whose players fail to improve, but there are only a select few that are capable of producing significant declines in their players individual performances to a degree that Riddle has done across the board.

It's the damn rugby punt, I think, slow snaps and poor blocking all contributing to some short punts ...

But to defend the punter (as you expected I would), he punted three times against Baylor, and Baylor did not punt. He had decent stats last weekend, and did well against Missou.

From CUattheGame:
The Colorado special teams contributed as well … for a change. Toney Clemons contributed a 31-yard kickoff return in the first half; Arthur Jaffee had a 43-yarder in the second. Zach Grossnickle, while he did not pin Baylor insided its 20-yard line, did have his best game of the season, going for a 44.7 yard average in three kicks.

Today's Camera:
Special teams
What has gone well: Freshman punter Zach Grossnickle has done a decent job in his first six games. He is averaging 40 yards per punt and has had just two touchbacks. Coaches ask Grossnickle to execute conventional punts and rugby style kicks depending on field position and game situation.

fixed for authenticity.

Goodman doesn't get the scholly & Hawkins doesn't get the extention.
