The Allbuffs Coaching Candidate list

Here's a decent question. Even if Les was interested in the Colorado job, would he take the job even though his good friend, and mentor, openly wants the same job? I know business is business, but it could be a possibility.

I wonder about that, too. My suspicion is that Miles is one of the few guys that Mac would step aside for. I don't think Miles would take it without Mac's blessing, though.

Minnesota is mentioning Fulmer as a candidate. He'd be a great pick up for CU. Not alot of contacts out west but in Tennessee's heyday, they were a monster recruiting nationally.

My list:

1. EB - Dynamite recruiter and leader of men. Will instantaneously improve the run game and build our offense an identity, similar to the Harbaugh offense at Stanford. He has 5 years NCAA experience, and 5 years working with a great offensive mind in Coach Childress. He's #1 w/ a bullet for me, no questions asked.
2. Mac - Love Mac, would love to see him bringing the Buffs back. Another master-motivator who has PROVEN that he can bring some of the best coaches into the fold for his team. IMO he would have to be paired up w/ some former Buffs to make this truly work like Embree. I doubt EB accepts a role under him because honestly, that would be a step back for his career.
3. Les Miles - I still don't see him leaving a 1 loss LSU team as of now. I know their fans don't like him but I think he's a great coach to root for. Tough, hard-nosed, rugged and he's proven he can recruit some of the best players in the nation. This is a pipe-dream.
4. Dennis Franchione - Some will think i'm crazy but the guy has had tremendous success every where he's went. A&M was a back and forth struggle for him as he had to deal with OU and Texas, arguably the best teams in the big12 over that period and never finished higher than third in the B12 South. He also had the newsletter scandal but i don't really consider that, from what i read about it, that big of an issue. I think he's a guy that knows the West-Coast from his time in the WAC, has recruited all around there and can do so again... pair that up with his roots in Texas and I think this would be a very solid choice.
5. Chris Peterson - If you love a girl and she dumps you do you never love again? hawkins has been a huge failure and yes, he's a Boise guy but I think Peterson might have been the one pulling the strings the whole time. I don't know if he'd jump for the CU job but I'd at least invite him for a interview to see what he's all about.
6. Mike Belotti - A guy that has had tremendous Pac10 success. Some will knock his trackrecord as his term coincided with some powerful Pete Carroll SC teams but I definitely think he's a guy we should have on the board to speak with. He's had success in the conference, knows the teams, their tendencies and he's got pre-existing recruiting contacts with many of the places we'll be recruiting.
7. Troy Calhoun - He's a safe-choice i guess. Local guy. I'm not that high on him outside of his military backgrounds. His offense is funky and i doubt he can recruit or win on a top-notch level.
8. SLEEPER - Gary Kubiak - I think we could be seeing Kubiak let go from the Texans after this year if they miss the playoffs again. He has roots all throughout Colorado so it could be a fond choice for us. He also brings a steep Texas background which could gain him recruiting favor there. If he came available, i'd like to see us make a move for him.

You're crazy, man. I like you, but you're crazy.

Kubiak already turned down CU once before after originally accepting. I bet if Kubs gets canned from Houston he will become the next A&M head coach.

OK

Agree

3. Les Miles - I still don't see him leaving a 1 loss LSU team as of now. I know their fans don't like him but I think he's a great coach to root for. Tough, hard-nosed, rugged and he's proven he can recruit some of the best players in the nation. This is a pipe-dream.

I'm on board

4. Dennis Franchione - Some will think i'm crazy but the guy has had tremendous success every where he's went. Lefty runs screaming into the night, are you serious? Did you get the concession on his Buff Insider newsletter? This guy is a disaster. Right now he's in the running for the UNT job, maybe. Shoot me now if we hire Fran.

He is/was, obviously, the brains behind BSU. Probably won't happen because MB won't go back to the Boise well for fear of looking foolish the first time around.

Another good choice.

7. Troy Calhoun - He's a safe-choice i guess. Local guy. I'm not that high on him outside of his military backgrounds. His offense is funky and i doubt he can recruit or win on a top-notch level.

Uhh, no.

Would be a great hire until another NFL team came calling.

I would add Mullen at MSU, Malzahn at Auburn, Andy Ladwig from Cal, the Stanford OC, the Ore. St. DC and Embree to the list.

I've been thinking that Lou Holtz has one more run in him. He's only 3 years older than Mac, he's only been away from coaching for 6 years, and he actually has had a full-time job the entire time he's been away, and that job has been in college football.

Is Beano still with us?

My list based on the current rumors:
1. Gus Malzahn
2. Mac/EB
3. Les Miles
4. Jim McElwain
5. Troy Calhoun
6. Mac/Dave Logan

After seeing Shanahan and his little boy play the nepotism game Sunday with Kyle's BFF Rex Grossman, I'm damn glad they aren't here.

I doubt he gets a look, but Hoke would not be a bad choice IMO. He could bring over Al Borges with him as OC and I would think we would do pretty well here.

i've heard his name as well. i hope we go for someone bigger.

Understandable and I do not necessarily disagree. At least Hoke does have some BCS coaching experience, even if only as a position coach. Anyway, I doubt he gets a serious look and he may be content at SDSU right now.

I've changed my mind. New list:

1. Dennis Franchione
2. Mike Price
3. George O'Leary
4. Butch Davis
5. Pete Carroll
6. Rich Rod

You can cross Bellotti off my list after watching the OU game. He defended Hawk saying he's a great coach and blamed Hawks troubles on the fact that CU has bad facilities and that the city of Boulder wouldn't allow Hawk to bring in noise makers to practice for away games. When Palmer and the other guy asked him if its possible to get the kind of talent you need to win games into Boulder he said he wasn't sure and reverted back to facilities. -- We all know that CU's facilities are lacking and that they have become a bigger factor than in years past but the last thing I want is a coach who will blame everything on poor facilties.

If you cross of Pete Carroll and replace him with Bob Davies, we've got a match!

+1 I really liked Shanny too. I thought it was awesome what he did to Haynesworth but this stuff with McNabb is ridiculous and then he keeps coming up with different excuses/lies about it. Lost a lot of respect for the man and I think he's lost it. Also agree with the nepotism angle.

What? I'm pretty sure I heard the entire conversation they had and he didn't really say any of that. He said Boulder was a beautiful place, but sounded like he wasn't really sure of that. He said he wasn't sure how the facilities were and mentioned the arms race in college football these days. He did defend Hawk, but they come from the same coaching tree, not to mention they're both coaches. Not very often does a coach just randomly throw another one under the bus. He seemed to acknowledge that Hawk had not gotten the job done here, he tried to save face by saying he's been a winner everywhere else.

belotti has bashed the facilities on espn college football live NUMEROUS times... and the city itself RE: the lack of support of the univ. in reference to noise ordnances for practice among other things
