CU @ Harvard Game Thread (11am tipoff)

We need a road win so damn bad, this game is really pretty crucial. Would be our first "quality" win as well.

Seems like we are likely to lose this one. Too mant TOs. God damn it! We are in really bad shape now

29-38 at the half. Higgins scoring well. Sharpe making some plays. Burks hasn't gotten off yet.

Why was Burks on the bench at the end of the half? Is he in foul trouble? Man, CU is getting called for a ton of fouls, it seems like. Also, on two consecutive occasions, we gave up an offensive rebound off a Harvard free throw. Thats just awful.

At least we have 7 straight home games up next. Be nice to beat either Oregon State or New Mexico. Gotta beat the rams as well.

And we stopped playing defense. Harvard is raining 3s.

Now with 58-71 4:30 to play.

Burks may have played with a hurt ankle tonight. Still has 16 pts after only 2 in the 1st half.

Also not playing team basketball. We've only got 5 team assists so far.

66-82

Embarrassment.

Not reported yet, but wait until you all see these game stats. Rebounding, turnovers, defensive FG% (esp from 3). Right now, we've got a soft team that's not playing together.

This is really disappointing. My expectations were probably too high, but I really thought we had a shot at the NCAAs this year. But I don't want to write the season off either, as we could still improve by the time we reach B12 play.

The lack of a big man is killing us, and it's been a much bigger adjustment switching offenses than I anticipated. Under Bz's system, the guys knew what was a good shot and what wasn't. It was built in. Now, in the half court sets, we don't know what to do with the freedom. I have to think this will improve as the season moves on, but I don't think we have a big on the roster capable of fixing our rebounding and interior D.

I listened to Coach Boyle on the postgame, and I really think he's going to be a good coach for us. We're just not as far along as I had hoped.

 Harvard ? Really ? Wow.

Tommy Amaker can coach. Michigan made a huge mistake when they fired him over 2 straight 22-win seasons (NIT, not NCAA tourney was the reason).

Harvard was 21-8 with wins at Boston College and George Washington last season. They're now 4-1 this season. It's a team we should beat, but it's not really an ugly road loss. Losing to San Fran was much worse.

I kind of expected us to be 3-2 or 4-1 at this point. I'm disappointed, but we've got our next 5 at home. Even going 4-1 (New Mexico will be tough) would help to turn this around.

I didn't know Amaker was the coach at Harvard. He's a good coach. I was bummed when he left Seton Hall.

Here are the game stats. Read 'em and weep.

Offense
FG%: 38.9% (Higgins and Burks a combined 11/26)
3P%: 22.2%
Asts: 5
TOs: 15
Shots Blocked: 6

Defense
FG%: 51.0%
3P%: 43.5%
Asts: 22
TOs: 16
Blocked Shots: 0

Rebounds: Harvard 33 / Colorado 29
Personal Fouls: Harvard 23 / Colorado 21 (we shot 6 more FTs on the road, so the refereeing was very fair)

*************

The stats that really stand out to me are the relative field goal percentages and the major differential in Assists (which is closely tied to getting good shots). Teams are getting good shots against us. And we're not sharing the ball. 5 Assists on 21 Field Goals is something our players should be ashamed of. Also, we forced 16 turnovers (with 6 steals), so the high FG% Harvard shot tells me we aren't playing good team defense and things are breaking down if we don't get a steal.

This is a team that's not playing together.

Sounds like a lot of CU fans there, doesn't it?
I was there. we had probably 100-150 CU Fans there. We were pretty loud, sang the fight song and tried to get into the game even though we were out hustled and couldn't develop an inside game.
