Embree: QB position would not be a particularly critical or urgent need

If CU is going to run more than I'd think the QB won't be as big a deal as linemen, RBs & DEFENSE -

Berglund and Hirschman should provide adequate depth at the position next year. Ideally, I think you try to pick up one quarterback every year. QB is not like any other position. You'll usually only have one guy play the whole year. Maybe two if there's an injury.

If they can get Miles in the following year, they'll be very strong at the position for a long time.

I think its a good idea. Best of Luck to Sherry. We have an okay QB with Hansen right now plus we have Hirshman, add in Brock next year and that gives us three. I'd rather see us hold out one more year when EB and Embree have an entire year to recruit a qb plus a bigger potential class to work with once we graduate more guys next year.

Embree's right. We have a senior starter returning. Hirschman was around the 40th best QB prospect last year and there's a lot of upside. We've got one of the top 15 QB prospects in the country signing with us in Berglund. We've got a good shot at a top 5 QB in Miles next class.

Throw in the likelihood of being able to attract a JUCO next year or upperclassman spring transfer this year, and we'll have plenty of depth, talent and competition in 2011.

This would have been a lot easier had Hawkins not chased Seth Lobato away. He isn't neccessarily a world beater but he won the back-up job (to Parker Orms Jr. brother) as a RS Frosh ahead of a couple of other guys who were recruited into that program.

If we had him for depth purposes we wouldn't have had to worry about losing Hirschmans RS this year in the event of Cody getting hurt and would have a third competent QB after Tyler and Hirschman for the upcoming season.

UNC isn't exactly SEC but it is FCS and if he is good enough to contend for playing time there he would be good enough to provide depth at CU.

if Bergland is legit top 15 QB's in the nation, he's better than anyone we've had in a long time. only Ochs comes to mind as having better national cred.

So in 2012 we will have 2 scholorship qbs in Nick as a soph and Brock as probably a red-shirt fresh?? Plus whoever we sign?? Wow.

If we can persuade Miles to come to CU, that's a pretty solid group, if you ask me.

Plus, that is not the current staff's fault. Hawk ran off 3 serviceable QBs in the last 2 years.

three? I can think of White, Evans (and I wouldn't call Evans serviceable by any means), and after that, I guess Nelson and Ballanger come to mind, but I can't really call either one of them serviceable either. I define serviceable as someone that has really has the ability to play - not as a backup either. Unless you're more in the know, it seems that White was the only one that Hawk really ran off too.

Back to the thread though - I agree with Embree and others. We only need one QB this cycle, and I'm fine with Berglund being it. He needs to find a blue-chip QB recruit though in his next two cycles.

Think this could work out all right if we can land Miles and a December JUCO grad in the next class. I do not think going into the 2012 season with no upperclassmen QBs is the best strategy, and I think going with only three scholarship QBs every year is too risky.

I've been thinking a Juco this cycle makes sense. Give Hansen some push.

I don't get the sense this staff believes in insurance. It's pedal down time. They have sites on some guys they want and taking another Nick Nelson isn't in the cards. Unless a Juco will make them better, I get the sense they will go young and take some lumps. They are after serious talent, not insurance policies.
