donmac, the NJ guy who posts on Rivals and tries to help some of the inner city NJ prospects find a college scholarship, said that he believes that CU will land Shumate.

Things can always change, but this is promising. donmac has a relationship with Tony Jones and was instrumental in the CU coaches discovering and offering Terrel Smith. He said that Shumate was defensive MVP at Schumann's National Underclassmen Combine as both a freshman and sophomore. Runs a 10.8 100m. Figures to be a guy who has an offer list a mile long. Knows Tony and Terrel pretty well.

Let's hope. This would be a big get out of New Jersey.

P.S. Rivals has some decent video on Shumate that members can access.

Shumate is expected to make an unofficial visit to CU for our spring game.

We are in very good shape for signing him.

Blue Chip Imaging Hit Its Mark With Elijah Shumate

Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep is home to plenty of top talented each year and one of the school's best cornerbacks in recent memory is only a rising junior.

Elijah Shumate has all the tools to be a lockdown college corner and that's a scary thought, as he still has two more years to develop before he starts playing college football. It's even more impressive when you consider that most schools will probably be looking at him as a safety. His coaches moved him to corner to show off his cover skills.

Seems a bit slow for a corner. That could be a sophmore time, though. If he is able to shave a .1 second from that, he'll be in great shape.

 Just .1?

He's probably more of a Strong Safety type. Possible Will LB according to some folks.

Maybe. If, as I suspect, that 4.52 is a sophmore time, and he's able to cut that down to 4.4-ish, he'll make a fantastic cover corner.

Interestingly, donmac said that he's now up to 205 lbs and played OLB this season. He's expected to bulk a bit more, play RB for Don Bosco as a senior, then be recruited for defense. Should end up at OLB when it's all said and done.

I kind of like the idea of an OLB with speed who has experience and skills in coverage. Gives a lot of flexibility to a defense.

"Some folks" = Donmac. Sorry about that Nik. Should've given credit.

The new "hybrid" position. A lot of schools have been loading up on them with all the 'spread' formations being used. Gives you another solid DB on the field that can step up and help with the run game when needed.

Not that you didn't already know that MtnBuff. :smile2:

I'm embarrassed to say I totally missed the last part of your post. I thought I was giving info people didn't have. Oops. Nothing to see here. Carry on. :smile2:

I'm trying not to break any of the board rules when it comes to sharing what's posted on pay sites. You can always feel free to edit any post you have issues with. Sometimes I get confused as to what can be shared from other posters, and what shouldn't be brought here.

So do I. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here, man.

Not getting a lot of help from the vaunted AllBuffs legal department on this one. (Not sure I want any.) :wink2:

Here is a thought on the paysite deal. When it comes FROM the paysite's sources/ writers, its protected according to the usual AB rules. No updating for 24 hours, etc.

However, when it comes from Random Internet posters on those sites (SD Buff, DonMac, etc), shouldn't it be more or less free game? These sites are not publishing the info any more than the DP is publishing a comment on one of their stories... So no copyright?
Note this is not a legal analysis, just a rambling semi logical one

Let's not hijack Eli's thread with this.

Basically, think twice before you post something to make sure it's not screwing over one of our pay site friends. Every now and then, myself and others will give a reminder on being respectful of their content. And please tell me when I get over-zealous and I may have crossed the line.

Anyway...

I love the idea of having a linebacker who runs as well as a safety and has the cover skills of a corner. Eli should be a major priority for 2012. Hopefully things go well in the spring.

Eli's Rivals 40: 4.52
Prince Amukamara Rivals 40 time: 4.5 - He's projected to be the No. 2 pick in the draft.
Patrick Peterson's Rivals 40: 4.47 Thorpe Award winner
Dre Kirkpatrick Rivals 40: 4.5 Rivals top ranked CB in 2009.
Darrelle Revis Rivals 40: 4.5 No explanation needed.

Not trying to call the man of sack out here. I guess I'm just trying to say people get way too enamored with certain recruits 40 times. More often than not, these forty times are suspect until the kids get on campus, kind of like height. :smile2: I just don't trust Scout.com or Rivals.com when it comes to forty times.

And I suspected that his 40 time is probably a sophmore time anyway, and he's *probably* faster than that. It's all good. I think this kid would be great at CU. Even if he is 4.52, that's very quick for an OLB.

The NJ kids love it here. I don't know why. My roommate was from NJ. There were 3-4 guys in my fraternity from Jersey. It's strange how many kids from Jersey just love Boulder.

Shumate has offers from coast to coast, but has the two schools out in front are Rutgers and South Carolina. He will be visiting here for Junior Day though.

Maybe he will bring his big defensive end friend with him

Hamilton's not coming. Prior commitment. Yuri Wright, some 2013 prospects and a 2014 kid who was freshman of the year in NJ are all coming. I'll get the updates posted later.

So 'donmac' isn't full of **** over there?

Being from New Jersey and being very familiar with New Jersey high school football, Don Bosco is an absolute powerhouse in a state that develops high caliber football talent year in and year out. If Colorado can develop a pipeline through Tony Jones (a 4 year RB stud at Bosco now at CU) this would be HUGE. New Jersey barely has a big college football school (besides rutgers? maybe) we need to bring these big time players to CU and the new PAC 12!!!! But in regards to Don Bosco, and Coach Toal. BRING THEM TO CU!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing, BigBuff7. And welcome to the board.

Where are you from in Jeresy? I was in West-Central and grew up mostly on the NJ side of the Delaware from Princeton north to Clinton.

We need more Jersey folks to class this joint up.
